Plastic molds have to run some mileage as far as I understood it. So why run a limited number on them?

Kind of a valley.

Personally, the notion that it is "OMG LIMITED EDITION!!!1" would lead me to rule out anything plastic.

Plastic molds are so damned expensive, if GW were to invest in one they'd be sure as hell planning to use it until it can't be used anymore.

If they were going to invest in a set of molds to make 3D Space Hulk corridors, you can be damn sure that it wouldn't be limited edition.

The RoB crater tile is actually a pretty good guess!!

Thinking of this via GW logic, the invest a lot of money in plastic terrain boards that end up not selling due to the price so how do you get rid of them (without making a big loss)?

Answer- let all the GW fanatics know there is something going to be released that is so hush, hush no one is allowed to say what it is and its going to be very limited edition. If you want one you have to pre-order it in August for a Sept release. People pre-order not knowing what it is but not caring as its going to be fantastic what ever it is and its a very limited run.

What you get is a limited edition 2'x2' terrain board that if you want to use you need to fork out for the set they cant shift. No good trying to sell it on e-bay or anything as only people who have bought the original set would want one so its a very limited market, plus they probably have it already as they pre-ordered it anyway...

GW's problem solved, they get rid of the terrain sets they couldnt shift before and made a packet from all of us gullible fanatics...

Mick

Of course you won't be pre-ordering without knowing what it is. What a stupid idea.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

Actually, the Realm of Battle has been selling quite well from what I've been told and what I've read.

Oh arr, and it seems this may not be as big as people are making out. Local Manager isn't long back from a meeting at Lenton, where they were all informed that the leaks in the Studio had been plugged up, and as from that day, everyone, employees included, will only find out about products when they go up for Pre-order.

And Mick A, earlier I did confirm that when it's up for Pre-Order, we will know what it is. Double and even treble checked with my local Manager about that one!

yep I also think the realm of battle is doing ok too.. I just ordered one Also when I was emailing gw about the planetstrike sets I asked if the ones with boards were different than the realm of battle and the guy said no it's the same board, but they have been hearing that new squares will be released eventually but he didn't have any more info than that. I don't think they'd be planning to expand it if it wasn't selling. I just wish they'd sell the squares separately now, I bet a lot would get them to expand the board they have or even just to buy 1 piece to use as a tourney display board

Ultraprime- read the last sentence of my post, you'll see I include myself...
The boards might be selling but not as well as they expected through the pre-release interest and pre-orders before the last minute price hike. Two guys from the local club and myself were going to get them at the original price but none of us did once the price went up...

I've got it. Space Marine bobble heads in 28mm scale. Other races to follow - except DE as no shelf room in the stores for them.

I just found out, the box doesn't have any models in it, it's a small box that just has a dvd in it and the dvd as a trailer for the new 40k movie based on the Eisenhorn trilogy. Stars Russel Crowe as eisenhorn, megan fox as Bequin, robin williams as maxilla and Ashton Kutcher as cherubael.

The Amsterdam store had grab bags of old stuff they no longer needed. You'd basically pay $25 for a bunch of cannibalized sprues with the best stuff cut out.

Though this makes me wonder what the August WD issue will preview.

No, honestly, I don't really care about the "mystery box". Personally I find it insulting that GW insists on playing games like this and treating me like an idiot.

If they can't be arsed to tell me about their products, then I can't be arsed to waste the money on them.

Don't discount anything in plastic jsut becuase they are mentioning limited run.

For example: they could do a limited "run" in the tranparent green plastic, and then repackage it with the unlimited run being in regular grey plastic.

They could sell Space Hulk with a nifty limited plastic storage case, and them turn out a million regular space hulks in card board boxes.

"Limited Runs" are usually just a marketing ploy to build up consumer interest.

The current version of Talisman does not come with miniatures. Talisman comes with cardboard stand-up tokens to represent the characters. FFG addressed this issue by saying that minis are not what they do and that they were leaving it to players to use whatever brilliant GW miniatures they wanted in place of the card tokens as desired.

So I am just going to put it out there and gamble. I place all my bets that the limited release is the Dark Angels building in Planetstrike. The indomitable fortress I believe its called. So that is again another conspiracy theory of mine.

The new updated one comes with minis and there was a upgrade pack for them who bought the first one without them.

QFT.

I really hope it is, as I aim to have the most bitching collection of Planetstrike terrain!

And on the matter of Splash Releases....there are splash releases, and then there are Splash Releases.

One good example would be the Exorcist. A splash release in stores but still very much available online.

So it could be following that model, where there are a few of whatever it turns out to be shipped out to stores for release day, and after that it will only be available from Direct Sales.

OR, it could be one of the things they tend to do limited runs on, and only really sell at Chrimbo, ala the Rules Cases, the Basing Kits etc.

My money is probably on the latter, for what it's worth.
