Wonderful plastics - do we know whether they're just the standard sprues plus the all-singing all-dancing SW sprue, or are they new recut SW-specific versions?

Do they stand back and say "yeah, we nailed it this time" or are they critical of their own work and hate working for GW and its ideal on how a body should be?
This is how GW wants their miniatures to look. It's a conscious decision. If you don't like it, fine, buy something else.
Delephont wrote:I could understand this level of sculpting when GW first started out, but when you look at what other companies are doing, not to mention independants like Hasslefree, and you just have to wonder if the market is blind, or is this what people want to paint and play with?
The quality of GW miniatures is very high. I challenge you to find better plastic miniature kits outside of military model ranges. You're simply mistaking your preferences for some holy grail of "correct sculpting". How can you play Infinity and say GW makes goofy models when half the infinity range is just as goofy, if for different reasons?
And really, I think people like to cry Apocalypse for no other reason than being bored. 3 mediocre metal models and GW is "going down the drain". It's actually fun to hear to this...

Bull-puckey. Some of of their minis are very high quality, yes. But they've had a rotating stable of sculptors for over 25 years with varying degrees of skill. Jes Goodwin and Brian Nelson are consistantly good. Some of the other sculptors? Hit and miss. To say that their quality is always good or correct is overly generous.
You don't even need to compare these models to other companies to say that the quality is mediocre. Compare them to GW's own models and you'll see that there's a lot of generic fist pumping and bland posing going on here.

Well said.
I remember many times when a favourite army has been put on hold for a few years due a sculptural nosedive. I totally agree about Nelson and Goodwin; they are beyond par and the others are still way off in terms of consistency.
Still, it's nice to see Marines getting some grief for once, although SW players have my sympathies.

Interesting to see double-sided Chainswords in those plastics.
I have to admit, I'm with (apparently) quite a few here. The metals look pretty mediocre at best, with a very few exceptions.
No temptation there for me to pick up a new army...

1) Correct. Two per box is expected, since it makes 10 guys. No, you are not blind, the sprue has 3 plasma pistols, a plasma gun, and no melta or flamer. To the Space Marine Sprues, Robin!!!
I'm not going to a breakdown, but I did stare at these long and hard today. 5 leg sets, 6 torsos, 5 backpacks, 5 bolters, several back totems, two front pieces (crossed daggers, and a shield piece with an attached dagger - middle right side, next to the single torso), 1 storm bolter, 13 unique shoulder pads, 4 chainswords, BPs, 1 pair of Wolf Claws, one frostblade/power weapon, a shield, that awesome hammer, the two-handed axe, and plenty of heads, with a huge variety of facial and cranial hair, plenty with beards. Only 2 or so heads had bionics, two were specifically for Wolf Scouts. Some of the bits are incredible, and some are not so great, but overall it's a great kit. There will be lots and lots of heads left over.
The chests are quite good, which is what makes me happiest.
And the art in the book is the best I've seen from the team, with the happy addition of lots of baroque Adrian Smith art. I'm biased on that end, but the art is really special, and there is a LOT of it.
Can't wait for the release.

That's so much better As I said in another thread, I don't think the concept of a Marine on a giant wolf would be attracting so much derision if they'd produced something closer to this.

These models are hilarious. I don't know how anyone can put them on the table and not get laughed at. The guy with the twin lightning claws looks like he's having a very nasty trip. Beware, space logs can bring down the mightiest warriors.
As the wolf... how did this get through quality control?! Re-name the codex Space Wolves (and the Masters Of The Universe!!) and it'll all make sense.
Brilliant; that's made me laugh for a good ten minutes now.
Haha,
The guy riding the wolf seems to be a pretty ludicrous model without the cat/bear/wolf (half cat, half bear, half wolf...) he's riding. Actually I thought of "Pick of Destiny" and the bad mushrooms trip Jack Black has when I saw this.

I read in the WD last year how Jes Goodwin did a lot of research to get the DE Cold Ones just right; sculpting the skeleton and muscles for an accurate understanding of the reptile physiology. I picked upthe box just for the joy of painting well-sculpted beasts.
I know what you mean, I have that WD (it's one of the only two I ever bought) and I really liked that article and how he described the process. And boy do they look great as a result, they look like real fething dinosaurs, not those slowed whatever the hell scaly things the Lizardmen ride to battle on...
