Anyhow, I've got a Valk hull out and that passenger compartment next to a Chimera:
- Valk hull is taller(excepting Chimera turret)
- Valk hull is longer (though somewhat more beveled)
- Valk hull is wider (excepting the Chimera tracks)

On net, there is definitely room for converting the Valk to a Transporter capable of moving a Chimera - it's certainly no less plausible than anything else in the 40k universe.

As an aside, all this means that special project #3 is confirmed as feasible, and moves onto the schedule, replacing Valk #3.

could you take pics and post them here? i'd be curious to see how the airlifter valk would look. (even if it's just the two models side by side unconverted)

I know it would take away from the speed factor but I think this model would look cooler as a half-track. Then it would make me want to do a Steel Legion Blitzkrieg force.

Perhaps but the halftrakk aesthetic is now booked up by the Orks and I think they'll keep that an ork vehicle trait.

I would like to see an open top version of this vehicle... I am thinking it would look kind of like the troop transporter version of the warthog from Halo in the back... which would be cool.

Not at the moment - perhaps tonite, tho.

Well it's a great looking fast attack vehicle, and I can feel my wallet tightening up as I write this. This type of vehicle isn't meant for heavy fire fights, hit and run is the MO. Think LRDG, and to be honest, it would be able to deal with most conditions that MOBILE warfare would be conducted in. There isn't much call for uber suspension in open country or desert conditions (Jeep?), and yes it would be limited but most airmobile stuff is anyway.

40k isn't real, and rule of cool has been the way of it since Rogue Trader. Thank god for that

Y'know if they made that in plastic I'd buy like, a dozen of them.

Who knows doors may yet be forthcoming, along with other details, it's still a WIP which is probably why they didn't want photos.

But at FW prices and with FW's spotty quality and service I'd probably just go wtih a converted model or with Old Crow.

With Old Crow charging 6-7 UKP I don't think FW would be worth the money.

Anyway, as an Elysian (D-99) player I'm liking this design a lot and I'm pretty sure I'll pick up a bunch when they are up for order.
That's an excellent point (I think I must have missed your post earlier) but didn't that one have rotating jet engine wing pods like a V-22?

Now I have to go play Winter Assault to find out.... oh darn!

It's a prototype for the storm eagle lander for IA8, which will feature the Ravenguard.
As for the FAV, it's meant to have a turret as it's a weapons platform, not a transport.
There is meant to be a 4wd version coming with guns mounted like a technical, complete with elysian hanging off the back firing.

Its a flying Higgins boat, so that you can use your element of surprise to land IN FRONT of a fortified position, for a nice Saving Private Ryan affect.

I like the way the model looks but FW is too damn expensive.

Tamiya makes a 1/35 kit out of a Japanese military vehicle that looks sort of similar and would fit right in with the OP's FW vehicle:

Its a shame IG still doesn't have some sort of jeep or truck in their force :( But I guess this will remedy that.

Gathering the Informations.

To be brutally honest:
There's no reason for a wheeled vehicle in a standard Guard force. Chimeras and their variants, Salamanders, Centaurs, and Atlases cover the roles that you'd see a wheeled vehicle in far better. There's a reason tracked vehicles fare better, for the most part, than wheeled vehicles. And for a military organization like the Guard, which can be deployed in any variety of areas at any time, it's better to have a standard variant that works okay in all terrain and situations than to have a specialized variant that works superbly in only one.

But that's why we have Forge World, to give us overpriced(rules and cost-wise) models that are good for one type of situation(namely, they make amazing sense in that campaign's order of battle).

But heck, I'm still getting enough of these badboys to have an Elysian detachment acting as a SpecOps detachment for my Cadian Mechanized.

I wouldn't call Elysians a 'standard Guard force' though.

Oh, definitely not.

My reply was to Cane's remark about the IG not having a jeep or truck in their force.

But man, do I wish they'd had included the options the Elysian Drop Sentinels have in the plastic Sentinel kit.

On aerodynamics, yeah, once you introduce the idea of antigrav, which GW has had since rogue trader, aerodynamics become optional. I always figured Thawks etc use powershields and anti-grav to fly.

For wheeled vehicles, they're cheaper to make, easier to maintain and faster than tracked. That's why modern militaries use them and unless you're at an eldar level where everyone gets a grav belt you'll still see wheels.

Erm, actually one of the biggest reasons wheeled vehicles are used by modern militaries is an infrastructure based one.

Tracked vehicles tear up roads like no tomorrow, and like you said require a bit more maintaining. Plus, it's easier to have troops using wheeled vehicles that handle much like the vehicles they use in civilian life than it is to teach every single trooper to drive tracked vehicles.

Or so I've been told by articles from Jane's.

Looks similar to the wheeled vehicles i made two years ago to use as Centaurs.
