Precisely. Besides, the last time I tried to post something there, I was drowned out by their resident idiot parade, so screw 'em is what I say.

And this year's 'useful one liner' award goes to...

I was under the impression they were reading the thread here on dakka as well? As someone who will be buying these if they are 'right' for me, I'll join the forum over there but there does seem to be a large amount of negative feedback about the site's forum community.

Funny here I thought this was Dakka, but it turns out to be the local knitting circle.

My bad.

I registered and posted. If they yell and froth at what I posted, it's no skin off my nose, as long as the designer saw what I had to say.

I don't think GW are stupid enough to try something like that where they will lose.

Anyway, back OT, if you don't like the style, join the WF forum, vote against and say why. You don't have to hang around and socialise.

I'll answer that. So that we know that these potentially really cool models are in development, maybe? He even linked to the discussion thread in the first post.

GW does not have to sue and win.

They don't even have to sue.

All they have to do is make a credible threat to this young start up. WGF will take one look at the potential legal costs of fighting the claim, during which time they cannot release the Great Coats, and decide that historicals are a better way to go.

It would not be the first time.

If that was likely to happen here then pig iron would be in trouble because they have greatcoat dudes, and that hasn't happened.

Pig Iron's selling pricey metals, assuming prices are comperable to their historicals WGF will be selling 3 or 4 for $5, significantly cutting into GW.

Yeah, but that gothic walker is significantly more 40k-IP-y than a bunch of guys in coats. Seriously, I see no way in hell WGF will get in any legal trouble for this.

Looks like they're still around - http://dreamforge-games.com/Home.html Their blog is still active, too.

Googling around, it looks like they at one point sold something that looks remarkably similar to an Imperator Titan, possibly even called an Imperator Titan. An IT is a little less vague than "future WW1 soldier", and would be solid grounds for copyright infringement.

It's a giant robot.

News to me that GW copyrighted that concept, given that giant robots have been around for a long time with a variety of detailings.

Future WW1 soldier is DKoK, so surely anything similar must be infringing.

No, not possibly called an Imperator Titan. They made a giant robot that would scale closer to a WARLORD Titan with fewer weapons called a Leviathan that looks nothing like any Warlord design GW has ever produced.

GW slapped them with the THREAT of legal action for an item that, in any decent court of law, would be defensible as an original work not derived from GW's IP and Dreamforge folded because they didn't have the monetary means to defend themselves in an extremely costly court action that would most likely take months to resolve, despite the good chances they would win. It's either fold or win a moral victory for a now bankrupt company. Because that's how GW wins IP disputes.
