People pay the prices they charge. They have no reason to change their pricing structure.
It's really simple as.
Games Workshop increases their prices because their perception is that there's inelastic demand for their product; raising the prices will increase net revenue because sales will fall by a smaller amount than prices rose. That's what they should be doing, if they're correct about the effects their price rises have (and let's be serious here, do any of you really think you know more about what prices are most profitable for GW than the people setting their prices? I would doubt it, unless you've following their accounting very closely).
Spend money in whatever way you makes you the happiest. If you value the models more than whatever else you could do with the money, buy them. If you don't think so, use the money on what you do think you're going to value the most. Disregard the cost Games Workshop incurs producing the models, disregard what the price of them was yesterday, disregard whatever reasons GW uses to "justify" their increase in price, those things are irrelevant.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. |

OK:
1) Metal models are more expensive.
2) The number of models that can be made does not nessecarily affect the price as the amount of extra arms etc. may increase it. I think the reason for the SW kit's price is because it has over 50 heads!!
3)Models that are popular/really good are often more expensive (perhaps this is the case for the Stormvermin) for example the greatswords kit(the empire's elite) is very expensive for a plastic kit of that size.
4) Also models that almost everyone has if they collect that army, or models that often younger players get just because theyre cool are more expensive too. Terminators are a great example. Lots of less experienced players will get the because they think theyre good (its the 2+ save and the power fists that do it) and i have never seen a SM list (of any kind) that does not have at least one model in terminator armour in, unless its under 750pts.

Like Orkeosaurus said, they charge what they believe the market will bear.
And bear it the market does.
Like any company worth it's salt, GW want to make as much money as possible, and expand into the market place as much as possible.
Or perhaps you think that a Ferrari really does cost that much more than a Ford Fiesta to produce?

"I do know almost every shop in SW Michigan has stopped carrying GW merchandise (or closed). The few places that remain have an anemic selection at best."
Quote from above.
I am the Business manager of Titan Games and Hobbies in Battle Creek, Michigan. I for one can say we carry over 100 different box sets for Warhammer in our store. As of mid January we are becoming a Partnership store for gamesworkshop. That means we will carry at least 100 models from each of the major game systems that GW offers. I alos do orders for my customers. Order by tuesday of every week and you get it by friday. Just in time for the store warhammer night which we have every friday from 4 - midnight.
I can attest that warhammer is gaining strength here is west michigan. I also host 4 tables at my house every wed. Between my house and the store we always have games going on. Right now we have about 22 people every week show up.
If there is anything that i can do different in my store I would love to hear what people have to say. I don't just run these events I love to play also.
Well thats my 2 cents worth. Thanks

GW charges what they charge, because they've found that's what people will pay.
GW occasionally prices something "high" just to see if they can get away with it.
If enough idiots, n00bs, and independently-wealthy others bite, then the higher prices stick.
Simple as that.

Does Chevy explain the price of their cars?
Does Dell explain the price of their computers?
Does Apple explain way so songs are now $1.29 and others are $.99?
I want to know why hobbyist have to feel they need justification on: prices, biz plans, Games Days, and so on. Either buy the product and play or don't.
By the way does GW get credit when they drop prices or have good deals like:
Chaos Knights
Chaos Marauders
Cold One Knights
DE Corsairs
SM Devastators
The New Clan Rats
and so on
Cheers
Do you happen to be a redshirt? Or are you just a huge GW fanboy? You will not get many fans here with an attitude like this.
I want justification because its my hard earned money they are expecting me to spend on their products.
As for the good deals didnt the Chaos Knights recently go up in price? And yes the Clannrats are a good price (although they seem smaller than the older ones). I cant comment on the other items as I dont collect them.
Mick
No Im not a redshirt and I didn't know it was a contest to win fans.
As far as the Chaos Knights go they have gone up a couple of bucks, but that is still less than $50 for 5. As far as your "hard earned money", you are a big boy and can make the choice of what you want to spend your money on. Unless you need other people to tell you how to spend your money. Maybe you buy a little of the army at a time.
Being a "Fanboy", sure I like their products( GW has the best out there) unlike most I have the income to not worry about their prices.
Cheers

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.
Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.
