How can you be sure it's not a good one if you don't know it?

I mean, for all we know, Malcador has orders from the Emperor that, should he fall, the Council of Nikea is revoked and Psykers are to be trained in actual ways to battle Warp entities trying to possess them.

Heck, "Oath of Moment" has already hinted at that with the fact that Garro's first mission is to bring a bloody Brother-Codicier to Malcador.

It is not good as it was not necessary.

And really, if THAT is the reason?

Wow.

I think it's as good a reason as any, personally. But I was just making it up after listening to "Oath of Moment".

Well, that and using the example of Garro's mission that he was assigned by Malcador.

And really, they may just be changing it because the authors felt the original background was too "soft". They've done that before, where they felt something just wasn't explained as well as it should have been.

I've yet to hear any plausible explanation for this major change, and I cannot wait to see how they get themselves out of this issue...

I have faith in it. Abnett and now Bowden working on it makes me think we'll see something quite good.

But I'm still not sure why you dislike this "major change".

It was a change of minor wording...but it makes far more sense as to how the Heresy came about than why they had Librarians in every major Legion who somehow missed the stirring of the Warp, the signs that someone(Word Bearers) was using sorcery to screw with the Imperium, etc.

I thought they just flubbed the fluff a bit...but then I listened to Garro's Oath of the Moment. I think as a development/writing team, they made a conscious decision to alter the fluff...at least temporarily.

Oh, I agree - I don't think this is a 'flub' and is in fact a conscious decision.

I just think it is a bad one.

The new background explains this just fine - Magnus himself missed this, as the Chaos Gods were deeper in the Great Ocean than he could see, and were better at using the Warp to manipulate mortals and hide their true selves..

The old background worked VERY well in explaining everything AND not making the presence of Librarians an absolute head-scratcher.

I'm also fully prepared to apologize for my extreme dislike, criticism and ranting IF they come up with something 'good' to explain all of this.

To put another point of view on why the ruling of the council no longer applies: the emperor condemned religion and refused his own so-called "divinity", yet in the 41st millenium he is revered as a god.
Its like chinese whispers - rules are interpreted and passed on, and end up completely different.

Sorry if I'm completely wrong, this is just how I see it.

You don't have to apologize for your dislike, Alph. It's your opinion.

But seriously. I can see a few dozen ways that the Librarium could have been reinstated, starting with Malcador and the aftermath of the "Flight of the Eisenstein".

After all if even the non-Librarian Astartes can become possessed by warp entitites, then you need something...bigger to combat that potential threat.

The Emperor becoming revered as a deity isn't a case of Chinese whispers really.

The Lectio Divinatus was starting up during the Heresy/Great Crusade era, and he went out of his way to try to quash it. But once he was gone, it just went out of hand and ended up becoming the Ecclesiarchy.
