These look really awesome. Great job!
So do you plan on making some Marauders and Reapers too? That would be very cool too.

Wow - this is really impressive work!

As i glimpsed through the post, i was uneasy about the visor. But you even added in some GS to cover it up!

Nice!

My previous pictures in this thread have often shared bits from the different Marines in progress. I've now managed to at least shape up everythign except 1 arm (for which I need anther box of terminators.. damnit )

First of all is a poor marine taking some fire (based on this rather neat bit of artwork). Might be female, who knows beind the visor

She's currently borrowing Tychus's arm and Observy Marine's base until I can get some more bits sorted out.

Now onto the group shots! 5 Marines pretty much sorted. I need to come up with a decent foot/boot for them and scrape away some more of the iconography but they are definately getting there

Pah... 2 weeks passed already... Work sure is sucking just now!

Anyway, I finally managed to grab some free tiome to pick up a box of assault terminators to finish off the set.

First up is the first draft of the Firebat in full flow!

I think I will pull the flamer nozzles a bit closer to the fists as I think they currently make the arms a bit too long. Firebats are supposed to be even heavier than standard marine armour so I've bodged in some Guard flamer tanks on the back to help increase the bulk a bit. I will probably end up adding more GS to the chestplate and groin armour as well to bulk it out even further. I've also gone for a fully closed visor to again differentiate this guy from the standard marines a bit more. I'll probably pull the front GS armour up over the visor a bit as well to reduce the chibi-marine-ness

I was thinking of adding some more armoured fuel pipes, but I think it looks OK as it is, with the fuel being distributed internally through the torso the the existing arm cables/pipes.

Legs will again be trimmed down and worked back up again but I will stick with a pretty static pose for this guy. Need to keep the dynamism for the Medic and Marauder

These are really really well done, I don't see why you aren't getting more comments! I'm sure there are a fair few people watching, even if they're not saying anything - probs cause there's very little here to criticise. Great work, really characterful. Keep it up!

OH-I Wanna get out of here

Are you going to expand once the marines are finished? The firebat is awesome, but I wanna see some other "heros" like Nova, Duke, and Zeratrul. I'm planning on making a Kerrigan at some point for a Tyranid Prime.

Thanks guys

@Scarper - Just wait for the painting... plenty to criticize then (especially if I try out some freehand on 'ol Tychus)

@Whalemusic - The basic idea for these guys was to run a selection of them as Ogryns in my Guard force and then the idea kind of got out of hand We shall see if it spreads to non-ogryn-able characters

Pretty much I did actually think about trying to do Goliaths, but the problem is that you can't arm Sentinels with enough weapons

They would work as dreadnoughts quite nicely though... hmm... *ponders* How do you add Grey Knights to Guard again?

Thanks Jurai. I'll keep that in mind

On with the next increment of the fun. Work has been a total pig recently with barely any time to sleep, let along fiddle with toy soldiers

However I have been able to come up with a design and contruction method for feet that I'm happy with. Loosely based on the Terran Marine foot design it fits pretty well with the Terminator legs.

This means I actually have finally finished a Marine off!

I might try and tidy up the chest armour a bit as this was the torso I tried out first. The chest lights in particular are a little flimsy on this one.

As well as finishing off this guy I've taken the Firebat on a stage by adding chunky chest armour. Its a bit wonky to be honest as I got called away while it was curing and didn't notice the squintness. Not sure if its noticeable enough to try and rectify. Lets see how keen I feel later. Also added bigger top vents and the Assault Terminator additional groin shield on this guy.

Looking at the size of the flamers the fuel tanks are actually starting to look a little small by comparison. Looks like there would be more fuel in the feed pipes than in the tanks! again I might try and bulk up the tanks a bit. Loits of GS fun to go

Next step is to start getting feet on the other legs and putting the finishing touches on the couple of remaining thighs needing attention. Actually, still a couple of hands needing some attention too... damn work for getting in the way

Hmm...it's about time.

As far as not sticking enough weapons on a sentinel to be a goliath, I've seen some nifty conversions floating around that would work fine for stand-ins. If nothing else, it's datasheet time!

I guess I could come up with some kind of heavy sentinel idea, however I was also thinking of Grey Knight allies, specifically a dreadnought... Is that something thats likely to be still allowed under the new Codex? The Goliath armament of autocannon and missiles would seem to fit nicely with the fire support dread, just with the armament switched about a little.

Anyway... Medics. I've been trying to think of a good pose and have come up with a couple of levels of cuteness. I think it would be neat to have the Medic crouched a bit trying to tend to a casualty (yaay for large bases!). It deliberately will be a bit bizzare with a hugely armoured medic tending to a guardsman but I'm fine with that.

The detail under consideration is whether the medic should be in a more heroic down-on-one-knee pose braced and taking fire on the combat shield or an over the top anime-style cutesy down on both knees type pose... Regardless the piece will have to be tagged "Trust me, I'm a doctor"

As far as I have seen (via the leaked dex) there will not be allies in the new book.

Well poop. Random heavy sentinel it is then

In other news, I've finally finished GSing the first 4 Marines, including Jim Raynor and Tychus:

And some better shots of all the damn hands and feet I had to sculpt It was surely a useful learning process, but I'm glad I don't have to do this for a living

The hands are a little rough around the edges, but I'm happy with them. To fix them up I would have to pour an awful lot more time into them and I can't be bothered...

Next on the list is to finish the feet and off-hand on the 5th marine and to do the legs and feet on the Firebat. And then its on to the Marauder and Medic with the Goliath lurking in the background Hmm.. this seem to be escalating in a worrying fashion!

Thanks guys

The hands are done with infinite patience and frustrating slowness There are about 8 separate steps per hand, starting with a weird lump and then building up the back plate and general finger shape before putting each finger on separately. I tried doing more than 1 at a time and it just devolved into a horrible fiddly mess
