Absolutely incredible. Those hands are a work of art, and one hell of a feat of patience. My only minor gripe is that the marines with one SM hand and one homemade one seem a little uneven, but that's only if I'm struggling for somehting to criticise. They look beautiful, and you've inspired me to go watch the starcraft II trailer again

Heh. Updates have been a little sparse recently. Work is handy for funding the plastic addiction but it really cuts into my modelling time

@Scarper - Thanks! This is the first project I've done any substantial sculpting from scratch, so the hands are a little ropey and uneven, but I'm hoping no-one notices when the paint goes on

In the uneven time I've had available lately I've been fiddling a bit with a proposed Goliath. I'm now on holiday for a long weekend and I'm hoping to get a load more done on it. Now the Terran Marines were originally supposed to be Ogryn counts-as (and I will still use them as such) but the lack of easy Marine based allies for Guard mean that the Goliath is likely to be a counts-as dread in a new Deathwing and Scout force I'm pondering Pig Iron have just released some new helmets that I really want to use!

I polled some opinions on the main P&M board and have now got to the point of having most of the major components sorted out. I was going to mount the missile launchers durectly on top of the RFACs but having seen the Typhoon launcher bits I noticed a rather neat missile loading mechanism that I think I'll keep. Also bulks the sentinel cockpit up a bit more toward Dreadnought stature.

Anyway, on with the WIPs.

Early dry fitting showing the proposed engine block

And some shots showing the business end of the machine

Main step left to do is to sort out the canopy. Need to chop up a flying base and I'm avoiding doing that because its always annoying and uncomfortable

Anyway, hopefully another jump forward tomorrow!

And here we go with the next hop!

I have bitten the bullet and decided that I may as well go the whole hog and work up a full Terran Marine force using the Deathwing rules

So the force will be as follows:

Jim Raynor (Belial)

5 Ghosts (Scout snipers with Heavy Bolter)
10 Spectres (Assault scouts with shotguns)

Goliath class assault walker (Dreadnought with TLAC and ML)

Tychus's Boys (5x terminators with Assault cannon)
Specialist support (5x terminators with either Cyclone or Heavy Flamer, depending on the opponent)

Allied Zealots (5x Terminators with Lighning Claws, including Belial's medic and standard rules)

Diamondback (Land speeder with Multi-melta and assault cannon)

Siege Tank (Vindicator)

Thinking about it, the Spectres might actually get switched out for some Vultures (ravenwing bikers) to get the neato teleport homer rules into play.

Anyway, with all these idea frothing around in my brain I've finished sorting out my Goliath. Its turned into quite a large beast, but I think the scale actually matches SC2 pretty well

The golith is a home run, with out a doubt. Glad you decided to go for a whole army, should be very fun to watch now. You should make the head ghost based on Nova (for the one mission/SC:ghost)

Wow... The marines alone looked impressive, but the firebat and goliath really demonstrate how amazing your conversion work is. The goliath especially takes me back to my starcraft days, awesome, awesome work.

What you could do is cast some of the base parts of the marines? The hands with guns, legs with sculpted boots ect. to saving time consuming scuplting and conversion work.

Probably about time I said something- I've been watching these Terran Marines from the start. Absolutely beautiful. The only thing I was unsure of (the megadrum on the minigun) is replaced with something more subtle and fitting. Now for the Goliath. Holy . I have no idea how many kits you have at your disposal, but the creativity you use them in is definitely something else. My little cousins play SC 1 and 2, and they're in love with the minis you have for accuracy. I love the guys simply because of the amount of work to create them.

I agree with winnertakesall too. Cast some of the basic stuff to save time, create an SC-theme army, win some awards at competitions for best-looking, etc... extremely promising work! Keep it up!

I was wondering how are you going to do a diamondback? Because I want to know how so I can make one as well.

I love this whole concept, and the GS work is very nice! my only concern is the Goliath/Dread's feet look a bit small, but it could just be the angle of the pictures.

Thanks guys

@Whalemusic - Thats not a bad idea... Could probably leverage something out of a Guardian with added scout bits... *ponders*

@Winnertakesall - Meh, casting. I can't be bothered learning a new skill (and buying ever more random stuff) for the sake of another half a dozen torsos The zealots will be made form something else entirely. I also find the sculpting to be rather relaxing (except for the fingers maybe) so I'm more likely to just get another couple of GS bricks.

@HF - thanks for the kind words. My bitz box has gained momentum for the past decade or so The vast majority of the Goliath is just the Sentinel kit though, and I need a Land Speeder anyway to be the basis of the Diamondback, so that sorted the missile launchers out

@Asherian - I'm going to try it out with a Land Speeder as a base. It will be an imperialized version, thats for sure, but it will hopefully make sense. It would probably be easier to make a hellion out of a land speeder (in the good old Warthog style) but I need some more anti-tank in the force and I felt a Diamondback would work pretty well.

@Christifori - I haven't done anything to the feet so its probably just the proximity to the leg armour that is skewing things.

I'm not sure how I didn't see this before, but it is AMAZING! I just started playing SC2 (first RTS ever too), it's so much fun! I haven't touched the campaign yet though, is it fun?

I love your take on the Terrans, I think you've got the feel of them down. I can't wait to see some paint on them. What are you planning to use for the Zealots?

@Platypuscorps - I'll take some more detailed WIPs for the medic, but there aren't too many steps.

@Caffran9 - The campaign has always been the best thing about any of the Starcraft games. Get thee hence and play it Excellent and compelling stories, voice acting actually worth a damn, droolmaking cut scenes... yeah the Campaign is definately where its at.

@tony_nids_10 - but then my army wouldn't be unique and I would have to do something even more esoteric and difficult

You're too kind

Another small hop forward with my Medic. The basic pose is now sorted out and the best thing is, no hands to sculpt on this baby (still have to do the feet though) The idea here is that she's covering a casualty with her shield and braced agasint incoming fire while she drills an access through the casualty's armour. Giant spikey hypodermics are only so strong

Subtitle on this one has to be "Trust me, I'm a doctor!" Might also try and see if I can fit a casualty on the base somehow.

And here by request the first leg WIP before the posing took place:

Great job! What parts did you use for the medical tools? And does this shield/medic trooper mean there's a place in the fluff for SS/TH units? (I'm unfamiliar with SC.)

The hypodermic unit is the plasma regulator bit off a Sentinel with some of my pinning rod sticking out. The drill is from an old servitor arm I had kicking about.

After you get the upgrade all Marines in SC2 get combat shields upping their HP However they don't have anything like thunder hammers so that's out. The Zealots will be dealing with my close combat needs though with lightning claws! (Technically the Medic will also be armed with claws, but not so much that you would actually see them ).

I'm thinking the Goliath is a little ... small

Are you gluing everything together before paint or are some parts just blu-tacked?

Also, have you considered using Space Wolves to make an army list?

Take care

OH-I Wanna get out of here

I'd say you could count the medic as a thunder hammer. Gets double strength by going through armor, kills init by injecting poison. Not that you couldnt use it for almost anything, that just seems to make the most sense.

Leader of the Sept

@albinoork - I was considering even more leg armour on the Goliath, but got distracted Everything is blu-tacked up just now. I'll probably glue the torsos to the legs before painting but I find that arms just get in the way too much. I have not considered Space Puppies as I'm pretty happy with the Deathwing list idea.

@Fattimus - umm.. thanks? Now painting is always the problem. This crusade started mostly because I was looking for something else to model so I wouldn't have to paint my Guard

@Whalemusic - This army is so counts-as it hurts but you're probably right, the shield is more evocative of the TH/SS combo. If they ever get a combat outing I'll see which is a better counts-as to use

Today the plan is to head into GW and pick up the main remaining bits for the army, i.e. biker bits, Zealot bits, scouts and think a bit harder about how to do Nova.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
In a shameless stealing of Proiteus's fantastic idea for a more slimline Battlesuit, here is the Mk1 Zealot. Its a little smaller than the Terminator based Terran Marines, but its not too bad. I'll just have to bulk up the base a bit I think. Its a bit scary how easy it was to file the standard Tau helmet into a Protoss head (Its even got the little chin detail bit). I was going to use some of the new Pig Iron System Trooper heads for these guys but I might change that now

And with more automatic appending action, the first stab at a Vulture Bike. Extremely happy with the results of this one. I was a bit worried that the Scout wouldn't fit, but all I needed to do was move the foot pedal support thingies forward a few mm It was also a happy coincidence that the torso and heat part of the Stealthsuits that I wasn't using for my Zealots is a perfect addition to represent the engine and worky bits

The flying base is temporary as I will be mounting the thing closer to the ground on the normal bike base. Its supposed to be a hover-bike rather than a true jetbike, after all. Other fiddling I need to do as well will be to think about removing the original jetbike stabilizers or if I just need to scrape away the gemstones. The head is a stand-in until the new System Trooper heads arrive!
