I haven't decided yet Vik...I guess that is why it's still just a big green tank with natural shelf dust weathering! I am tempted to force myself to use my airbrush for the camo, but I'm not sure I have that much control over that damn finger trigger yet. It was easy for the belly of the Marauder Destroyer, all white, but I may have to use some of that masking frisk stuff, I'm not sure yet. I suppose I should quit talking about it and actually work on it huh?

well you could use putty for masking....you know the one kids use to make snowmens and such like things? playdoh and such stuff... and later on you just pull it off...could work...
natural shelf dust for weathering... lol...that cracked me up^^
one day i would like to use an airbrush myself...but thats currently out of the question...no room, no money... well this song gets quite old...

to tell you the truth... every time i make something i like doing for hobby reasons i dream about selling that then for real...but then i see how i fail my own design and then later on dump that idea again...one of these days i should really go to town with a good design and mabye cast some and then sell them... there is a guy at ebay germany that sells almost every week a nid droppod made out of a casted begabricks egg...
and he gets about 15€ each.... not only violates others properties but he does it way small but it still produces cash....

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it later in the post but the inimitable Sam Green from GW Sutton Coldfield (he's now actually in GW High Wycombe) taught me that if you put your spray can into some not-quite-hot water before spraying it warms up the paint slightly which helps it go on smoother. Also, try and let the paint dry at room temperature, i.e. indoors. Not sure just how understanding your missus is about that sort of thing - we have a downstairs toilet with a fan that I chuck my models in while they dry which works fine.

For painting camo on tanks I have to say you don't have to be commmited to one style. You can make up backstory why some tanks are painted different as example old age, pre-heresy with lots of battledamage or be it imported from a different forgeworld planet.
I used to paint also in the gw camo style, but I switched to a different on which I believe fits better in an jungle enviroment. (knarloc green, black and khemri brown)

These are very nice, I especially like the weathering you did on the flying thing! How did you do the oils? I can only get a sloppy muddy look with mine .

Thanks, I think the idea is to gloss coat first (this gives the oils a slippery surface to work on)and make it sloppy and muddy-looking, but once the oils are dry (about a week), use the acrylic body paint to touch up over the top of panels and such.

Cool, thanks for the help, hopefully I can try that when i get home tonight Also, do you have a commissar that you're planning on painting? I want to see what you would do with one. :nod
Edit: oops, just saw him, he looks awesome! He is, like your other stuff, a perfect balance between neat/ordered, and dirty/gritty. Just like catachans should be

Thanks Glom! The commissar was unfortunately in the flight path of some airbrush overspray, so that is where his "pox" come from, but I havent bothered fixing him.

Well, Im not sure where to start. The vets are really cool, the Hvy Wpn bases look great, the overall paint job is fantastic. And the bomber, the best. You said it cost $300? You got your moneys worth on that one. Looking forward to more.

OK, I'm revving up this thread in real-time as of today. I've needed to take a break from my furious but well-rewarding Necromunda Project work.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/1050/399826.page#3557527 And while I was back home a few days for a funeral , I stopped into the hobby shop in my old hometown and found this 1:32 scale M65 280mm Atomic Cannon.
This will be a bit of a recap for those following my Necromunda thread derailment, but I am including these things for continuity's sake, feel free to scroll down to new shineys)
I am a total Cold War geek, I am constantly amazed how in the 1950's the US was building bigger and bigger and badder Nuclear devices, but had NO CLUE about things like radiation and fallout, seriously dangerous Gak, and common sense now, yet they had their finger on the trigger. ugh.
Anyways, The US ACTUALLY built this thing, about 20 of them I think.
The Theory was, that they could get away with using tactical Nuclear Warfare, meaning, using small, nuclear arms on troop formations or other things, then marching troops into the wake of it to mop-up! We actually believed this, crazy!
Anyways, they test-fired this thing, IRL with a nuke, in Nevada...once.
Is that NOT totally 40k?
To top it off, I found a Government Propaganda film that documents the test as well as limbering, unlimbering, loading, etc.
Automatically Appended Next Post: My Atomic cannon will "count as" a Hellstrike Missle Launcher I guess, but I don't really care about the rules. I want to model it unlimbered and in a sandbagged firing trench, crewed by a bunch of sweaty Catachans!
Construction begins:
The Rear Firing Deck sub-assembly
Elevation gear sub-assembly
Glued inside as well as plasti-welded the outside joints of this assembly, it looks like it will take most of the stress of raising and lowering the gun barrel.
The Forward Hydraulics Deck

Yes, the kit can be limbered or unlimbered. The barrel actually collapses into itself wen limbering, just like the real thing!
All of the moving parts are meant to move Didn't you see the box cover "does everything but fire"
However, I will not be making mine limbered, it will be in firing mode.
A perfect, sturdy joining of the frame
@Vik, catchy tune, but the only word I can understand is BOOM! lol

on the contrary mate! i think this is a mouthwatering pice of a model... and your idea with two tractor chimeras sounds brilliant...thats transport for the gun and even for the support crew... i call that clever planning! i was just referring to the size which would justify keeping the documenbtatin of the modelmaking in your terrain thread...

you need to extend Chimaera's platforms, well use Basilisk (or maybe.... Manticore/Deathstrike) hull found on that boxset and make an extended hitch platforms
