The lack of torso variety isn't a problem on two of the torsos, it's the chain one which to me would look wrong/unnatural if re-used on many models, coz chain isn't going to dangle in _exactly_ the same way on multiple people. This is nothing against Vic's modelling or design skills, I have the same issue with many models - things like chain, trophies, straps, pouches etc which would in real life be arranged randomly. If you look at a photo of a group of real-world soldiers in the same uniforms, they'll each look a little different (unless on their parade ground best), with clothing sagging/creasing differently, buttons undone, extra equipment, etc etc.
I know many gamers couldn't care less about such things, but I'm someone who likes every member of a squad (and preferably a whole army too) to look like an individual.

Yes, heaven forbid that you actually do your own conversion work, and add in your own details with some greenstuff, files, jewelry chain assorted scrap from other kitbashing, and make your own Penal Platoon on par with the Last Chancers, where every one is an individual with slightly unifying details to them.
Your looking at prime rib here, and asking for a hamburger. Those bits are ace. You get them, a batch of verdun stuff, and some GW bits, and make them your own...
I think I really like Cpt Blackies mob here more then anything I've seen from GW in quite sometime. Might need a couple of human bomb bits, but I can handle that little thing myself with my own greenstuff, and some of those Krak grenades from those Assult Marines.
How much would 20 or 30 cost me? Do you have a platoon deal?

What would you want in a platoon deal? 24 convicts plus one officer?
Let me know, all suggestions are considered.
Expect these to be available in a few days.

Also love the convert-a-scot set, seriously thinking about a squad or two of these guys now. Kind of evil-empireish to not offer them in packs of 5/10 though, 3 in a pack = always some spare

24 is a good start. 24= 2 squads of ten, four more. Then an extra slot for the female commisar. I could go with that.
If anything, i could get 48 of those and have a full on platoon complete with heavy weapons section.

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time... |

Funny, I've never liked the Catachans, their arms just look way to big to me. This is actually the first time I have used any Catachan bits, and I kind of liked them, they seemed to fit this character.

Vic,
Any chance you might be interested in producing some alternative backpacks for our beloved "genetically engineered, power armored warrior monks"? I have been looking into starting a Celestial Lions chapter army and I haven't been able to find any 'lion-themed' alternatives out there. I could kitbash or mold them myself, but I am a noobert when it comes to sculpting and I am a big fan of your work.
Any chance you'll be doing any work in resin or plastic in the future, as well? Not a huge fan of metal personally, but for your work, I have definitely put aside my previous distaste!

Yeah, problem for me is that I've never really liked either the Catachan or the Cadian plastics - I've tried all sorts of things, but just can't find a way that looks good. But your torsos make the Catachan arms work. Great job!
Hey, have you ever thought about producing a set of arms with the sleeves rolled up? Or just with sleeves, no shoulderpads? One of my biggest issues with both the Cadians and Catachans are the arms: the Catachan arms are too big and steroidal, while the shoulderpads on the Cadian arms seem too bulky for me, too. I'd like to be able to make a light infantry regiment *cough* Gaunt's Ghosts *cough* that don't look over-armored and don't look like bodybuilders.

Actually, plain long sleeve, no shoulder pad or cuff arms, holding an original laser gun were started on the workbench yesterday
Perhaps I should just be making complete minis instead of bits. Though the thing I like about bits is the creative possibilities they encourage.

I'd like to have the option but as I mentioned no one in Australia can cast resin. Id love to do plastic but the set up and tooling cost is massive and way beyond my small outfit at the moment.

I don't know what your sales numbers look like for complete minis, but if you keep doing options for IG, I can imagine that your sales volume would be higher with bits than with individual minis. I mean, the average player probably doesn't need more than one set of Spanish Inquisition minis ($35), but an Imperial Guard player doing a theme army needs a minimum of 30 troops for their army (2x 15-man Highland Guard packs @ $35 each) - usually more (which, if they're using Penal Guard, they'll definitely be using more).

Looking forward to the arms.
You have to decide for yourself if you prefer sculpting minis over just bits, but personally, I love the variety parts like these give me. I love to convert and kitbash, especially with IG.

Please don't sculpt the lasgun into the arm in the same way GW does. It is a major pain in the behind to remove it if you want to fit another gun. Separate gun(s) please
I think you should keep making conversion sets (too). Conversion pieces can fit in any army, and get people's creative juices flowing, while complete miniatures have a much more spesific role usually. Also, many people are not really comfortable with using entirely different ranges for 40k figures, even if they don't frequent any official GW tourneys. GW has a very specific look, and other figures will often stand out in a bad way unless they are really close in looks.
If you are looking for ideas: Alternative special weapons (especially melta/plasma) is probably a good way to make some money

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |
