Once again missed new posts Just found this and the heads look AMAZING ! Another success to add to your collection, I can understand the limitation to the chain torso which has been mentioned. I don't think it was meant as a criticism just the fact it is so distinctive in its style that the chain could look repetitive in a group of miniatures the rest of the torsos could easily just look more uniformed.
This is easily rectified by green stuff or as mentioned alternative chains added, myself I don't find this a problem but some people would not like the conversion work involved. I think once again you have managed to fill a hole in the market that has been overlooked for far to long, so big WELL DONE !!!!!!!! .
I have purchased several of your Highland Guard and have to say they were great fun and a pleasure to build and with great pose potential, But where is the HQ set I have been waiting for, the bagpipes, communications, standard ect still needed please can we see these soon make my Christmas please and is there any chance of the company mascot woof woof I did mention this if you need pics please PM I can send a few for reference.
I would say that the conversion sets would be the higher demand and the greater profit builder, this is because it is more easily to add these parts to peoples current collections and armies as they bring variations but still tie in to the on going theme plus it also gives the customer more options for conversions and variants.
If you made a complete stock miniature, myself would buy one (definitely) maybe one to convert but that would be it if it is separate pieces torso legs arms and heads I would buy several as there is a multi use for it and the conversion potential, therefore it gives the modeller more interest and multi uses therefore greater demand.
So let me finish by saying GREAT WORK !!!!!!!! once again nice new set YES I will buy some even though I have had no real interest in building a penal unit (until now) thanks more money to spend cant wait to see what comes next and really looking forward to the Highland Guard HQ set

Started a piper. Can't decide to do a sperate head or not, separate head means he can't be playing the pipes. Tempting to do him just as a normal single mini, but then what sort of hat? if any? Same applies to officer.
What would you want in a Highland Standard that was different from the plastic standards already available. I was thinking it might be good to have a flag without the etched detail so you can *shock* paint your own.
Lots more bits that will be useful for a certain other regiment known for their stand at Ork's Drift on the way, which will be handy for Highlanders too.
Balmoral heads on the way.
Cheers,

Is it practical to make both a plain version and a version with etched detail - or even better, multiple versions with different etched detail? Most of us aren't quite as talented as you and painting a freehand flag is just way too hard.

I would like to see the bagpipe playing so if the head has to be attached that would be fine for me and I think it would be good if he was wearing some kind of scottish head gear maybe like one of these :
 or maybe these
As for the standard I was thinking some type of celtic/scottish design to the standard pole and tip design , maybe a little design around the edge of the flag but leave the centre for those who want to do their own design.
The ork drift stand of regiment will be a nice add on but means I will have to buy some more highland guard to use with them which I just know you don't want to take any more of money now do you……..

While we are wish listing
I wouldn't mind seeing a Regimental Champion included in a Highlander HQ, possibly wielding a claymore.
Just a thought in regards to the standard bearer, the poll could be made using a lochaber axe (ornate or functional) from which the banner flies.
As far as hat choices go I like the Balmoral or the Glengarry Bonnet. The Balmoral is sort of like the Scottish version of the beret. If given to all the members of the HQ can make it easier to tell them apart from the rest of the squads, or including a few hatted heads to spread throughout the regular units for variety.
With the bagpipe player it would be cool to have the bagpipe connect to his gas mask something similar to this.

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time... |

As noted earlier, standard Cadian bodies are nigh identical, its the leg, arm, head and weapon positions that make them different. Once mixed in with bits from a couple of kits, probably some Catachan and officer box stuff as well, you'd not really notice.

What about a bareheaded piper? then you could have him playing and either people could use him as is, or file his head down and put a helmet on/Greenstuff a hat on him?
Just planning purchases at the moment for ig bits...what are we likely to see for this famous regiment? Torsos, legs, heads, arms?

Got my set of penal unit to day the heads are dam fine really like those the character in them is spot on, the bodies are nicely sculpted but I think you would benefit from a couple of more generic ones with not so much detail (I know sounds strange but let me explain). Buy generic I mean the basic clothed detail of the tunic they are wearing (no rips tears or distinctive markings) no rope chains anything that would not be issued as standard to the unit, this way you could mix these easily into the group blending in without looking quite so distinctive. Plus this would allow easier conversion potential for the buyer if they wish to do so.

Hi,
Thanks for all the great suggestions and pics. Here are some answers to some questions.
the bodies are nicely sculpted but I think you would benefit from a couple of more generic ones with not so much detail
Neat, but a few more variants of the bodies would be nice.
Making some more generic bodies would not be too difficult. I figured the average IG army would only have one ten man unit of Penals so 3 torsos would be enough, do you seriously want more?
...what are we likely to see for this famous regiment? Torsos, legs, heads, arms?
Next release: torso's and heads, coming soon arms, legs and weapons(see attached pic).
Still working on the piper, thanks for the suggestions.
Any chance we could see some more painted examples?
Any decent painters put there fancy having a go? I aim to create a gallery of inspirational and original, kit-bashed guard on my website. Once I have a few more bits out there, I'll be looking for some cool examples.
Here is a sneak peak of something in the works. Its a "Victorian" Laser gun. Final version has an underslung bayonet. I am making sets of arms holding these which will fit nicely with the current conversion bits and the next wave of releases ; ) Stay tuned.....

That is a nice looking lasgun and has a more traditional feel to it (pic next to a miniature would be good though ) will you be selling these on their own?
As for the generic bodies there seems to be a lot of people asking for some torso's that will not look so distinctive and stand out just blend I just thought it would be easy for you to nock up and sell as a set of 2 or 3 torso's that would keep these happy.
I gather the legs and weapons will be for the penal guard sets ? I was just wondering if you will be making torso's and arms for the Highland guard?

All your Guardsmen are meant to have the same body. They're in regimented, matching uniform. Penal Legion, on the other hand, aren't.
Don't get me wrong, the kit is nice, I'm just saying it could use a couple more variants. Otherwise, I'd be more tempted to simply equip Empire Flagellants with Lasguns, and call it a day.

I think it would be nice to see something more along Mordian lines. Praetorians are okay but they have a really limited following among guard players. Praetorians were a niche army from the beginning (shown by their rather limited run).
On the other hand, Mordians not only have a more general audience, they can be used piecemeal in most guard armies. For instance, a CCS or PCS wearing slightly more formal uniforms is an excellent idea and has been seen in many IG collections. Praetorians outfits keep them out of this role.
Also, Mordians can represent any number of IG armies, not just Mordia (Terrax guard anyone?).
As a last point: Mordians are difficult to convert, therefore a kit would not only be preferred but popular.
