Long time lurker first time poster

I'm currently in the process of building a tzeentch traitor guard army and CSM army and so I thought I'd document it.
I've got several projects on the go and a whole heap of models to put together; at the moment I’m planning to convert units for:

HQ

Colonel Iron hand Straken (Proxy CSM sorcerer)
Primus Psyker
Priest

Elites
Psyker battle squad
Marbo (proxy deathcult assassin)

Troops
penal legion
veterans
infantry squads

FA
Rough riders
Hellhound
Sentinel (Daemon Conversion)
Heavy Sentinels (stalk tank)

HS
Not sure yet

I pretty much have everything on this list in various stages of development

I've got some pics to start off with.
I must say that I’ve been influenced heavily by the work here

This is one of my veterans, the idea for the armour was borrowed from looking at the works of Modhail, Xanthos and Shas'El Tael.
I have 5 others assembled in a similar fashion that I'll probably post when I complete a squad of 10

One of my penal legionaries. Influenced by work of tinfoil. This is my initial prototype i have another 9 to assemble and will possibly get a further 10 after that.

One of my Psykers from my Psyker Battle Squad. Pretty straight forward. I've assembled all 10 of these but this was the first one i painted to completion. still have the rest to paint.

]
1 of 5 rough riders but this too will probably be expanded sometime down the road to ten. This one is still WIP and is carrying a flamer. If anyone has any thoughts on how to represent hunting lances using the spears in the marauders box please let me know. I was thinking of using small lengths of plastic rod and running thin wire back to the riders hand. Any thoughts?

This Chimera (also WIP) I've been struggling with for some time. It's the custom transport of my Psyker Battle squad. I don't know what I’m going to do with the front bit. The servitor and trumpet parts are only blu-taced in atm. I was thinking of doing an ornate lectern type thing.

My first assembled CSM.

This post was rather hastily put together, but I thought it best to start somewhere, I'll probably write some sort of background to give some of these things a bit of context.

this is going to be a nice thread. Love your work already. Big up. How are you going to paint them?

If you add your images to the dakka gallery, you can then link to them in your thread (dakka gives you the code to do so when you look at your image) - this has several advantages such as you not taking up space on your image host, you get to have your images rated by dakka users here, and people who are at work but can still access dakka (such as myself ) get to see all your models - photobucket is blocked here, so I can't see anything :(

I look forward to seeing these when I get home (or if you put the images in your dakka gallery)

I can see!

And it is very nice - love the rough rider, and the chimera is shaping up well. A lectern on a balcony (which covers the top front hatches) would look pretty cool I think.

Cheers guys,

@Scrazza: I don't know. The Psyker battle squad will be painted as shown but for the regular guys I'm not too sure. Any ideas? something that will be in keeping with the battle squad.

@SilverMK2: They're in the Dakka gallery now. Any thoughts on how to do the lectern? The problem i come across when trying to do it is that when i build it up to make it look like a lectern it starts to obscure the statue

I wouldn't go for purple for the whole army. Purple has something of "Royal" or wealthy patricians. I'm sure these traitors are neither of these

Please forgive the craptastic image editing, this laptop only has paint on it

So, the red is the railing around the front of the chimera, the blue is the lectern, and the green is the trumpet man.

This makes it look like the whole front of the chimera's top surface is given over to oration and worship/etc. The railings define the space, but do not block your view of the workmanship or and "service/sermon" that is being conducted.

Hope this helps

Hmm love the rear end of the chimera, however with the front I would have the rails, but not a lectern as such, more of a simple stand, like a singular thin column with a bookstand on top and the trumpet guy walking over the 'stage' as orators do, with large arm motions.
Just a thought.
Overall a brilliant start.

Wow that custom chimera is awesome. I think you should build that dude some sort of daemonic looking pulpit. The balcony idea would work well I think as long as you make it all spikey and corpse ridden. I think you could chain some dead/dying people to the side of the church thing too to liven it up. Honestly atm it looks more loyalist than traitor legion to me though. Maybe it just needs some runes painted on it ^_^

Here is a very brief run-down on the background
As with these things the heresy festers within. A sect of the ecclesiarchy believed a prophet of the emperor had come to them (a psykic minion of a CSM sorcerer, and ultimately a pawn of tzeentch) and so they eventually start worshipping this prophet quite fanatically, until it erupts in a civil war, ultimately consuming the planet.

The reason behind why the tank looks imperial is because it was originally built as a mobile shrine for imperial troops, until commandeered by the fanatics. Rather then go all over the top with the usual chaos (bloated monstrosities of nurgle and oceans of blood and skulls for khorne) I'm trying to walk a finer line. There are mutations and there are daemonesque things. But yes the intention was to paint huge runes on the side. I have also designed a symbol bases on the preheresy 1ksons icon to be applied to my tanks in a similar way to Dave Taylor's blood pact star.

Thanks SilverMK2 for the railings idea. I do have some of the old rhino railings i could use in combination with plastic rod. I was just thinking i could put a large PA system to help spread the word

@Scrazza: but purple is a rather tzeentchian colour

@azekio: tbh I haven't thought that far ahead with the CSMs I have that sorcerer and unassembled squad of 1ksons and regualr marines as well as a proxy model for a chaos spawn. so their in more of a development phase, however i will want both forces to join up eventually back ground wise. the idea of a CSM warband leading hundreds of thousands of cultists is quite appealing

I think that addresses most things. Thanks guys

*FYI the imperial eagle on the back has it's eye covered.

I've been busy the past week putting this guy together. My version of the stalk tank, still in the WIP phase as i still have a bit more detail work to do around the armour and on the claw hinges. I'll also be basing it on a valkyrie size base.

I'll be using it as a proxy for either a scout or more likely a heavy sentinel.

Great work! That tank is amazing. I love the Praying Mantis take on it. The battle psyker's ride is awesome, too. A railing around the front sounds like a good idea. I think a pulpit for the lectern would be sweet too. I also really like the rough rider.

again: Great work!

Cheers Guys

I do have a few more ideas regarding the chimera, including some semblance of a pulpit and support runners for the main structure, however they will have to wait until i've finished the stalk tank

@Lint: I can give you a run-down on the parts front to back. The GW pieces are:

Head: City terrain light, Skaven doomwheel pressure container thing and warp lightning gun wires, CSM hemet horns, cadian comlink speaker, chaos icon
Arms: old school imperial guard rocket launcher pivot, some sort of orc axle suspension, doomwheel blades
Thorax: Defiler turret bottom?, sentinel missile launcher, city terrain (bastion?) com tower, chaos spiked armour plates
Legs: 2x imperial guard dozer blade linkages, 2x pair sentinel legs, old school dozer blades
Abdomen: Sentinel exhaust, LRBT side sponson casing, city terrain light, baneblade exhaust vents
