I'd have no problem whatsoever playing this army. It's your hobby: enjoy it however you choose, and as it clearly doesn't infringe on my enjoyment of the game, go for it! As has already been said, funny story to tell friends

Would I like it? No. Would I want to play against it? No. Would I mock it? You betcha. Why? I loathe MLP. I loathe "hello kitty". I loathe "kawaii" and "chibi" and everything that goes with it. FWIW I also loathe the angry marines and every other "meme" themed 'army' out there, but I'm a grumpy old man-gamer who still thinks kids don't belong in the hobby (because I was never a "child" gamer and my peers were also not "child" gamers.). We never had to deal with any of that crap. Would it trigger nerdrage in other 40k players? Yes.

I don't see how your army OP causes any issues. Am I misunderstanding or are you simply using a color scheme that reflects Luna's own colors or are you actually converting models to look like ponies? If all you are doing is painting moons and other symbols that look like they could fit with Luna's theme and Nightmare Moon's theme I don't see how this would be an issue for anyone. Most people probably won't even realize that the moons came from MLP unless they were heavily exposed to it which means they are most likely a MLP fan anyways.
I personally think the idea is really cool, since I have a feeling this isn't a joke for you, but rather a serious army idea which will incorporate icons that reflect the moon and space. This is far different from seeing Garden Necrons or any other idea that people have come up with for any army. So long as the models match what they are supposed to be and Wargear is there I don't think anyone should have a right to refuse to play you.
As a Brony myself I have to say its cool and I like seeing crossovers like that in the game and if you need a Theme Song for your army I think this fits the bill pretty well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sf0tYs5U5RI

Lots of grown men like anime or other things that are for kids. Now gender is just a THING created by society. that is what part of bronydom is. Breaking down established gender stereotype. If bronys where transformer fans no one would have an issue. but because it is for girls we are suddenly considered weird and possibly disturbed? Question: Why are horses considered girly? Why is pink? Why is a skirt? Why is a dress? Because we SAY THEY ARE.
Also learn to deal with so called "Homofied" stuff because gender walls are breaking more and more everyday.
But on topic OP. if you humanize luna make he look like this.
Big picture inside

Right generally its anime that is more adult orientated. That which is not so adult orientated is marketed towards the female audience, hence it being kawaii etc.. And the gender thing created by society is an age old debate, but the fact still remains that whether nurture or nature there are hard wired settings. Horses, pink, skirts, and dresses are NOT considered girly because we say they are, they are considered girly because they ARE things orientated with femininity.. not masculinity. Pink for instance is genetically wired into our brains to be a non aggressive color. Whether that comes from years of conditioning or from years of evolution is debated but it is FACT.
And yes because it is for children and for girls it is disturbing.. Whats disturbing is that people seem to not think so. Michael Jackson for instance, his magical house with merry go rounds and slides (and giant toy horses), did it seem like a mentally healthy environment for a grown man? I worked at a Carnivale for quite a while and I can tell you from first hand experience that the grown ass men that are interested in kiddie activities are not healthy.
Stereotypes exist for a reason.

Angry? Probably not. Don't expect to get great paint/fluff/theme scores though. Adult My Little Pony fans are often, in my personal experience, a bit "fringe" socially, around the level of stereotypical "TFG" wargames players that we all encounter in this hobby from time to time. Now, I am not saying that because you like My Little Pony you are automatically a horrible social outcast. You could be the most cool/normal/whatever person in the universe and like My Little Pony for all I know. Maybe My Little Pony fans being slightly "off" is just a thing local to my city, or to things I have seen on the internet. But the My Little Pony fans that I know in real life are weird people. They tend to dress and/or act incompetently in social situations, and seem like a "lazy/ironic" crowd of people that forgot that they were supposed to be liking a girl's children's television show ironically and started becoming way too enthusiastic about it. Personally I used to play Dungeons and Dragons casually with a pretty average crowd of people, but recently I have noticed that the 18-21 "geek" demographic is becoming filled with the "My Little Pony fan" type. It makes it hard for me to comfortably enjoy enjoy geekier things with My Little Pony fans in games, in my experience frequently forcing My Little Pony references/jokes/character themes/accessories into all walks of life. Your mileage may vary. If I met you on the field of battle I would hold nothing against you, but believe me my army's Righteous Fury would be on overdrive.

Ever hear of a kilt? Its a skirt then men wear. The reason that they are oriented with feminitity if because we say they are. And whhy is it wrong for a man to wear a skirt? Huh? Because its for women. and they are acting like women. Men who act like women are lower because it is considered women are lower. Remember, the greatest insult to a man is to call him a girl.
And yeah, Anime is oriented towards grown men, Which makes the weird stuff in it all the more disturbing. About adults liking kid things

I think it may be that MLP fans typically are very deep in the internet. they lack social skills because of that.

As to the argument about pink having always been girly, pink used to be the typical colour to denote masculinity and blue for girls, as blue was seen as a calmer colour than the more aggressive pink. It's only in the past 100 years in which their roles have switched round.

Hell, yes. Do it! Anyone angered by this isn't worth listening to. In fact, you'll be doing yourself a favour by driving them away. Nerds who get wound up by little things like this tend to be pretty irritating people.
I just ctrl-f'd the discussion and didn't find any mention of Rough Riders. You should totally have as many as you can take, all painted up like characters from FiM, even if you only use them occasionally. IIRC, you can take 15 horses in one FOC, which gives you a lot of choice to work with.
Yay! What fun!

I do like the colors. It would make a nice uniform. Moons and stars are pretty standard military icons, so that fits as well. Now if your modeling your guardsmen to be mlps, not so much.

IE: Tanks and troops have void-space camo, flags have moons or the symbols of night or the moon on them.
I thought it would be a nice idea, considering I was told it was creative of me to paint my first regiment with Volcanic camo, and I like thinking outside the box when it comes to writing and painting for my regiments.
Oh, and the name for the regiment would be, Luna's Legion, I know a bit to Space Mariney but it works.
Thank you for any input and advice, just trying not to step on peoples toes.
They are you minis. Do whatever you want with them. As long as they are properly identifiable on the table as to the unit they are or type of unit they are you can paint them however you like.
