Vitruvian, Zefig, purplefood, thank you all so much for continued feedback and encouragement. I've been sidetracked a bit by good weather... with plants awakening after winter, spring is on my mind. And all that "returning to life" inevitably reminds me of zombies!
So, all this is my round about way of saying I'm back on vampire counts. After painting all 6 kobold knuckleheads I needed a bit of a break.
Anyway, for my Vamps, I have really wanted some dire wolves. But I utterly loathe the undead dire wolves, and also despise the horrible cartoony wolves from the goblin wolf riders. I was greatly pleased to see the new Space Wolves Fenrisian wolves, which are exactly what I think dire wolves should look like!
So I picked some up, built and put them on cav bases... I am in love! Now, I am convinced I need to run some condors as bat swarms - in homage to my old So. Cal. homeland La Brea Tar Pits (best. field trip. evar! in elementary school)
I have also decided that my Vamps will have an early spring theme. I am tickled by the idea of lovely flowers growing amid the death and decay. Thus I acquired some HO scale model railroad flowering plants and added them to the bases. It is different from anything I've done and is actually quite different from anything I see regularly, so I'm liking that contrast as well.
Here are the pics!

OK folks, lots of pictures. All kobold knuckleheads are done, plus one Ironscale.
Ironscale
And WIPs... First, Kobold Gougers. These guys are cute, because with spears they have reach, so can pile up behind the knuckleheads and Ironscales.
Remember, WIPs. I'll be highlighting them up and will have to work on skin because I can't behind armor or hats!
And now another SodaPop Mini pair - Delphyne and Ekhis. They are for another game or something, but I'll probably come up with rules to use them in SDE.
I love the little red riding hood and big bad wolf thing...

I have no interest in SDE, but those Kobold Knuckleheads look great! The Ironscale is a bit plain - not sure what can be done there - perhaps a bit more shading and highlighting to the armour plates? And the Gougers are coming along nicely (didn't realise they were only WIP!)
Keep'em coming!

Thanks Arakasi. Yeah, I know, that Ironscale looks a bit flat. I'll see what I can do.
Here is the next step for one of the gougers... testing out colors, trying to get the intensity right. I'm noticing that the camera is varying the time the aperture is open quite a bit, so as a result, each photo looks completely different... I also tried out a different background!

Looking great. I really like that Delphyne & Ekhis set. I may have to pick that up myself.
I need to update my thread soon. I have managed to get a ton of work done.

inquisitorlewis, thanks! You have been much more diligent about updating, and you moved! I feel like a slacker.
Archim3des, yeah, I really need to finish Red bird. I keep saying I'm going to, then get sidetr... OOOH a kitty!
LOL, I'm joking. I'm not quite that bad.
This last weekend, instead of painting, I played a game. Here are a couple of action shots!
More close up on the action...
And some more finished minis:
Kobold Gougers!
And, this is going to be my prize for finishing everything, Candy and Cola. She's all prepped so when I get done with the set, I can dive right in.
For this last photo, I had to turn off the flash, so the aperture stayed open longer, causing the blurring. But I do like the shadows from the apex lighting allowing the details to show through on the mini.

I have only a couple of action shots from game played tonight. I've got several new things almost done, but I'm working on so many at once that I'm not really finishing any...
Game was fun, the closest we've had so far. Heroes were Barbarian, Rogue and Candy. The Barbarian went down quick to a Kobold mob. Heroes got some bad loot draws, then Rogue got the Horn of Dragonfire (might not have name 100% correct). That cleared out a lot of kobolds and low level dragonkin. But then Rex came out and poor little rogue was Rexsmashed out of existance. After that, we called it as Consul wins because it would have simply been rounds of chasing Candy around the board.
Here is the dragon clutch spawn point...
That chest is the one that hold the Horn of Dragonfire... and Rogue turned around and blasted all the kobolds!

All right, so here are some action shots! This was our first full on, 5 hero, SUPER game... so I was very excited to really throw everything down. Here is our board layout:
My Heroes! I played heroes for the first time in a long time...
Entering the dungeon
By end of turn 1, first spawn point and chest had been taken care of. Turn 2 saw 2nd spawn point and chest taken due to mage getting some crazy good wisdom loot and rogue teleporting like crazy. Here is some point of turn 3:
The heroes rolled through the entire game. Candy was dispensing potions like crazy, Pally and Mage were healing or blowing crap up, Rogue was looting everything and backstabbed the crap out of Rex, Barbarian was kicking butt and taking names. With the potions and hearts overload (between Candy and Rogue (luck) and Pally with healer), there was really nothing Consul could do. Pally kept healing and another potion would generate from dice, same thing for rogue and teleporting. And once a resurrection charm got drawn, it was all over for poor consul. Starfire died without any heroes dying, though it did get close a couple times.
I can say this was a brutal hero selection for the synergy. The only thing that I should have done differently was to load up the rogue with dex items, because she got the bow of +1green and burst1, and if she had other +dex items she would have been crazy!
We've decided though, after last night's game, that I have to play Consul from now on.

Somehow I had not discovered this blog until now! You must bring this to DakkaCon... I have gotten an abbreviated game of SDE in once, but an unpainted version. This is just amazing!
Also, about this:
Gymnogyps wrote:I have a story about kobolds, told it in the DCM Mosh Pit, but I feel I should share here, too.
"Kobolds. Ever my bane. In a D&D game several years ago, I had an archer Ranger, elf, so kinda weedy. I was holding back while everyone else rushed forward for two turns of movement. Then I was surrounded by kobolds. At least 10 of them. Little did I realize I had made myself the slow antelope in the herd. My archer was dead in 2 turns... ever since then, I have had a special place in my heart for kobolds."
... A place of fear and loathing!
I think your kobolds turned out fantastic in the end! And that's a pretty funny story . Most people probably fear the other, larger/scarier monsters more, but not you I guess

Thanks RiTides. We have found that the kobolds can be brutal in this game too, though poor Consul has gotten consistently beat the last couple of games... I can't wait for the expansion this summer. Caverns of Roxor, oh yeah!
I mentioned them earlier, so here are the finished Delphyne and Ekhis... these are Relic Knights from Soda Pop Minis.
