As mentioned earlier, here are some more of my Orks... first, a bit of fluff.

Mad Mek Wargotz startled away at a deafening SQUUUUAWK! After a night of building, he had fallen asleep under a nearby frond tree with the help of a fresh batch of sweet fermented fungus drink. Above his head, staring down at him intently, was a gigantic red bird. The bird held in its talons a shiny gubbin, acquired from the scraps scattered around.

"Wut?" sputtered Wargotz. "Gubbin! Give me dat gubbin you stupid red krow!"

"GUBBIN!" screeched the bird, and fluttered down to the ground. The bird proceeded to dextrously manipulate the gubbin with claw and beak. Wargotz watched intently. Was the bird experimentin'? Or just ripping it apart?

Wargotz staggered to his feet, still watching the bird. Suddenly, with a ZOINK the bird disappeared and appeared back in the tree. The gubbin fell to the ground and the bird flew away, leaving a squawk and a flurry of feathers behind.

Wargotz's eyes focused intently. He dove for the gubbin and fiddled madly, trying to see just what the bird had done. A line of drool dribbled down his chin as he continued to investigate, but he just could not see it.

"Dat bird... he's smart. I need more smarts. I need to be a Red Krow..." he muttered.

So this is a bit of backstory behind my klan, the Red Krows. My Mek builds all sorts of crazy kontraptions, and his work needs to be known! You've already seen the Angry Bird stompa, but Wargotz has also done some work for the local warboss... who needed a new ride after seeing a Grey knight force.

I like your conversion. It really looks like he is strapped in there. Some of these appears to be 'floating' or not-at-all in control of their vehicle. This guy looks good

I was amazed when the AoBR warboss was dry-fitted. He is the perfect size so that his feet sit on the footpegs and the shoulder straps go right over (after some adjustments). I used guitar string and bits to make his controllers, and had to greenstuff his left arm. The giant claw is from an Inquisitor model, and also fit perfectly. This was so much fun to build and paint!

Michael, my zombie musician now has hair! Looks like I need to go clear up some mold lines, but other than that, he is getting so close to painting!

PS remember, please don't be stingy with comments, suggestions, etc.

Wargotz and the "Stormraven" look pretty cool. I think the Stormraven may have looked better with the turbines under the main rotor, or even to the sides (but lowering the rotor a bit)

Finished Michael! I do still need to decide basing scheme for the Vamps... any suggestions?

So, I had to take a bit of a break. I got an offer for a new job, and took a weekend away, and had to go to a couple of doctor appointments, so my head has just not been in a place for painting.

But, as always, life has settled and I'm back!

I know he has a bit of gap and mold lines, but with how many need painted I shirked a bit on the prep. The mold lines seem to be in really hard to reach places, too. But I love how his colors turned out.

My dragon baddies are going to be this orangish - red. Kobolds, I'm thinking of doing green, but not sure.

Ah man, I've been wanting to pick up a copy of Super Dungeon Explore! for a while now. I've just had a lot of other things to eat my money, but I'm hoping sometime in the near future I'll be able to grab it. It's good to see the models painted, and painted so well.

Thanks! As for getting the game, DO it! Not only are the minis fun to paint, the game is fun, too. We've run the intro size game a couple times and will soon be running a full scale game. I can't wait!

@ leohart, you can pick up the game at Cool mini or not, or many of the various game suppliers have it. I think I got mine via CMoN because of a promotion to get a limited edition model for free.

I see you are down in Maryland. I am getting ready to move to Newark DE in the next month or so. I would be willing to take a road trip to play some SDE later on this Spring.

My first Kobold, a Knucklehead.

This is the first SDE mini I am not happy with. Its just not working for me. May need to rethink, regroup, and change direction... Edit - the photo is really making it look bad. It is rough, but not THAT rough. Realistically, with so many little kobolds to paint, the execution is not bad, the colors are just too, IDK, mono. They are all the same saturation / intensity so it all sort of fades to grey.

Yeah, I'm in Baltimore-ish (northwest corner of Baltimore County). Moving, eh? Normally this is a risky time of year but with the weather being as it is, it is like mid-spring now anyway, so really perfect move weather.

We'll have to arrange a throw down! I'm up for road travel, too, so either way.

Those scales on his back are armor. Try painting them up that way. At the very least it breaks up that huge green canvas on his back. Should help his appearance.

I like that, the grey works really well with the yellow! I debated back and forth as to whether they were armor or scales, and can see them both ways. I went with scales because these guys are so weak and die so easy!

Here is an stupidly good example. The back is painted as scales, but the scales are not the same color as the skin... goes back to your overall point, inquisitorlewis... Break up the colors! (great suggestion, TY) Below, this photo influenced my color selection on the shoulder pads, because I like the idea of leather armor! (photo by grey0815, from deviantart).



I like it, but I just did an epic amount of red-orange. What is nice is this photo will help me pick out details and paint them up. I also saw a gorgeous dark midnight-blue scheme from the SDE facebook photo pool...

Update! I've played a bit with the kobold. I like him much, much better. Did a wash on skin with Thraka Green, leather with Gryphonne Sepia. Back scales were highlighted up with Scorpion green and lined in the scale borders with black+Dark Angels Green. It pushes him way closer to the cartoony-bright effect, and the back scales are WAY more distinct now.

I have a story about kobolds, told it in the DCM Mosh Pit, but I feel I should share here, too.

"Kobolds. Ever my bane. In a D&D game several years ago, I had an archer Ranger, elf, so kinda weedy. I was holding back while everyone else rushed forward for two turns of movement. Then I was surrounded by kobolds. At least 10 of them. Little did I realize I had made myself the slow antelope in the herd. My archer was dead in 2 turns... ever since then, I have had a special place in my heart for kobolds."

... A place of fear and loathing!

As to kobolds...just be glad you didn't run into Tucker's Kobolds.
