It looks pretty good so far, really starting to shape up.

Its looking like a really beefed up Stealth Suit for some reason.

I'm curious to see what you do with the tube along the back, that could really make or break the model, as right now it's so... tube..y.

Planning a different type of claw for it rather than the clamps that come with it? That should be interesting... its a cool model for sure.

Thanks, yeh it's starting to take a nice shape i think. I know you are worried about the tube but it's just a scaffold. I'll keep checking in to make sure it's looking okay. I'm replacing the claw with a saw blade for a count as chainsword.

I've done a little more work so i thought i'd drop in and get some advice! Sorry about the terrible pictures, i'll try and make more progress and post more, better, pictures tomorrow. If you can tell from these, am i going in the right direction?

I like the better shape of the back, can't really see the left arm too well.

I think it looks good, it just looks off with the huge amount of space in the front of where you have the guy positioned. My guess is that this is one of those projects that looks weird right until it's 90% complete.

Finally! Inspiration took me!

I'd say the big man is at around 80% completion now and someone else has arrived on the scene too. Pictures tomorrow.

Yeah the leader is really coming together. I love the extra large chainblade and the pose is really cool as well. I still scratch my head a little as to why he has no front armor, but it looks cool so who cares?

The pose with the Pulse Carbine is a little odd, but it could be more casual than anything I guess. Your guys are really gonna stand out on the table!

Thanks Chem! Fluff wise front armour wouldn't be particularly vital, the walker is designed for boarding actions or cutting it's way through bulkheads rather than taking part in combat. The Gang Leader's stats are unaltered too which puts 'rule of cool' in action since if he got shot from behind it would be a tough kill. I like to think that the fuel canisters would make his back an easy target which levels things out a bit.

The Pulse Carbine is a little odd but i'm having trouble coming up with another option. The right arm is modelled pulling ammo out of a pouch which is quite a constraint. I'm thinking of changing it and doing a slight resculpt. Any thoughts on what to do with his arms instead?

So what are you thinking of doing with the right arm now, since it's not on the model. Since this is Necromunda, it would be a great reason to model up some sort of scary Close Combat weapon of some kinda. Or an incredibly elegant power weapon.

Dude I got that same powered armor from studio mcvey, but in pewter. Looks like a cool build you got going on here and it's rather making me want to get into necromunda. I've already got a number of ganger hive scum type figures.

@Chem - The right arm is going to need a lot of work, i think i'll be making the lower arm and hand bionic but i don't think he'll be holding any weaponry because...

The Spyrer Patriarch Hunting Rigs and also the Matriarch Rigs, for those who aren't familiar, are even rarer specimens of Rig. The Patriarch type actual has a built in Servo Harness, albeit a rather high-tech one. So the four crazy bars are my place holders for the arms and i'll probably keep them as the first sections. Two of the arms come fitted with the Imperial standard power claws and the other two have boosted pulse lasers.

So i think both his left and right arm will be doing some badass. I'm thinking one pointing and one pulled back like he's landed a jump? Something like that, we'll see.

@Dweller - It's a great little kit isn't it? And you should definitely get into Necromunda, i've not had a game yet but i'm loving the fluff. The best thing about it is it has it's own really intense story but you can delve into the wider 40k universe if you want too. It makes for a very characterful game.

A bunch of guys at the local GW have been playing it a lot lately, and I've been tempted to get involved. If anything it's an excuse to go conversion crazy and paint up some fun stuff... but then, that's why I got into Infinity!

I'll have to check out the fluff.

I'm furiously trying to build servos arms right now. It's bloody difficult!

Well it's been a long time but I've been diving in and out of projects recently and this one got a little attention. I've decided to just let inspiration take me on the journey, I work very slowly when I force myself to work on a project I'm just not feeling at the time. So I haven't got much more to show but I feel like it's worth posting at least as documentation that I've made some progress, however little.

Ganger 2 got himself a new arm. The pictures a bit dodgy but there isn't much to see. This guy is my least favourite but the new arm endears him to me a little more, I see it as a sort of engineering power gauntlet type deal which gives him a little more personality I think.


The Patriarch got some work and I know how I'm going to finish him too which is nice. I'll need to get myself those power cable making tools before I finish him and I won't be spending any cash on the hobby for a while so that'll have to wait. Until then I'll likely tidy him up and do a little gs work here and there between other projects.



Lastly, the Gang Leader got a fair bit of work. Is he finished? Probably not but time will tell.

Which has allowed me to, hopefully, finish my Spyrer Patriarch. First up though, a little review of the Masq-Mini Tube Tool. They also threw in that sample product in the picture, I haven't used it yet but it looks interesting.
At €20, make that €30 with delivery, you should expect something pretty tasty. Honestly, these tools fall disappointingly below the mark. Don't get me wrong, everyone should have a set as they are incredibly useful at doing what they were intended to do but you shouldn't have to pay these prices. There are a number of small casting defects on the buisness sides of the tools which occasionally leave marks on the tubes, not a huge deal but I expect better for the money and so should you. The tools could also be larger, they are fine for most things you'll want to use them for but bigger tools would open up possibilities for larger scales. Currently you get the impression that the size was largely defined by cost, hopefully not profit. Another issue I have is that they require a two flat surfaces at a right angle to be able to use them, check the videos on their website to see what I mean. It seems simple enough to add runners of some kind to the tools in order to make them easier to use and to create consistent results. The lack of these runners adds to the feel of cheapness and corner cutting.
...But yeh, buy some, they are really useful. Just know that you are going to be a little annoyed at the cost.

Anyway! On with the show. As I said, I think I've finished the Patriarch now and some feedback would be great. So here he is, I hope the photograph quality is okay:



I have some tiny wires which I plundered from freezer bag ties. I bought a pack of 50 dirt cheap freezer bags and didn't need the ties so I threw them in with my hobby stuff. Within a couple of days I found a whole host of uses for them, I'm using them to sculpt tiny details for my Infinity blog for instance. I quickly realised that they were small enough that I could roll them into a tube of gs before using the Tube Tool. I let the greenstuff dry and then bent them to shape, It's been really nice to keep going back and changing them to get the look I want. It also meant there was wire already in place for pinning which saved me a lot of stress and coins in the swear jar. I can get some scale pictures if anyone wants to see.

Ouch, for that price I'd expect the tube tool to make the tubes by themselves.
I think I'll stick to my comb for now. At least until I have either money to burn or inspiration for making my own.
How bad are the casting defects? Could you fix them yourself with filling in or sanding down?

and good idea for putting wire down the middle of the tubes, will have to remember that.

My first thought when I saw the first pic was that the arms could be made to look more serpentine in their shape. But that might just be to camera angle as from the side they look fine. Cables for the claw thing for the win as well.

Haha, right? These things should have an on button. Combs apparently do the trick but I wanted something a bit more engineered and precise. I wonder if it would be cheaper to have something customed by Warmill or a similar company? I considered making my own but I don't have the tools to produces something precise at this scale.

There aren't loads of defects but there are a few that are pretty annoying, they look like gouged or dents rather than bubbles but I'm not sure. It's too small to do any filling and I don't want to try and file anything either. I think it's best to leave them be and just redo the occasional tube, it wouldn't bother me if I hadn't paid such a silly price for them.

I see what you mean. they look very flat head on... I've just had a play about and made them a little more organic looking from all angles! Good catch, thanks. I really bulked out the claw arm, it's like a slightly scaled down Marine arm. I think it's a nice reference point for Imperial technology.
