I don't understand, are you serious or not? If you are, that's obviously a troll. If you're not, then I allow me to congratulate you. You have played the part of a Tau fanboy very well.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

Why would you hate Tau just because they don't have particularly good fluff?
In the end of the day, it's just a game. What do you gain out of hating them?
Do you think GW will just stop making Tau because a few people hate them?
Just accept that they are there, and stop trolling. It's a game.
Personally, I hate them because of the fact that, of all the races, they have the largest likelihood of having a random fanboi pop up in an unrelated thread trumpeting the virtues of how amazing the Tau are in every facet of every last thing they do.
Sometimes the fanboi will actually talk like he is a PART of the Tau Empire, as if it exists physically somewhere.
It's disconcerting, and I'm unable to divorce the disturbed feeling I have over this with the army itself. It's probably my problem more than it is the army's, but what can I say? This guy here? Only human.
Wait, TAU have the highest likelihood of someone roleplaying as a member of the empire?
Not at all. It's so difficult to distinguish tone online.
That it is.

I don't hate the Tau. I hate the people who don't stop gushing about how great the Tau are. Also, I don't think you know what trolling is...

Come to think of it, that's what most non-Tau fans feel. They have nothing against the Tau personally, but are pestered so much by their fans that eventually, the irritation spills over into hatred of the faction itself.

I wasn't aware of all that much Tau hate. I mean, diehard fanboys that claim that they're destined to rule the galaxy will always attract a few laughs, but that isn't hate.
Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.
Indeed. Its not hate, so much as irritation. Some fans seem to treat their arguments as gospel, and want to pound it into the heads of everyone who disagrees.

Funny. Seems a thing that I only ever encounter or experience with (a very large percentage) of Dark Eldar players who keep on harping endlessly how evil and deprived their pet-emo-elves are and how much of an exquisite tool of finesse their Ravager-spam net-list truly is and how wickedly refined their own taste in toy-soldiers is for choosing the Dark Eldar and .... ah.. you get the point. Some people should just keep quiet and roll the dice.

I have never seen someone rant about how great the Tau are and how they will rule the galaxy. But I do see Coa and Tadashi rant on how great the Imperium is all the time and that their tech is better then all other factions.
As much as I love Warhammer 40000 and all of it's awesomeness and grim darkness - I must here say Clone Commandos would won the day.
Brother Coa speaking against the imperium!?
This can't be unless....Alpharius, is that you?

Fair enough if thats your experience. But I've never seen any of this, so I can't really complain. Still, at least their fluff supports that they are evil. Tau fluff doesn't really support moral or technological superiority, at least to the degree I've seen some people boast about.

Well, thats just your opinion, just like its mine that Tau fanboys are more annoying. Yes, I've seen Coa and his famous fanaticism. But I've, PERSONALLY, seen more Tau fans making outrageous claims. Anyway, at this point, we are just posting anecdotal evidence to keep this moving along, so why don't we just let this argument die? Both sides are set in their ways, and no one is convincing anyone.
Milisim wrote:So there is a tiny little beacon of light on the Eastern Fringes that dont want to mame, burn, kill, pillage and rape everybody??
Thats a reason to hate Tau? Because they dont treat people like dog shyte and eradicate planets on whims of egotistical meglomaniacs?
Better not like those guys!
But they do. Dont deny it. Commander Brightsword landed on the planet Polia, and began the planet wide systematic extermination. He was a student of Farsight, and decided to not issue a surrender notice. Its a form of the Vio'la. Or a similer spelling. This was in the book Cities of Death, so it official GW CANON*.
Now since he is a Commander, it implies his supieors at least dont disaprove of his actions. Since he is a student of Farsight, that means there is an entire school of thought that approves of this method. And the Vio'la tactic kinda agrees.
So yes the Tau do eradicate planets. They are a grey morality at the best of times, as are the other forces of order. And its the tau players who hark on and on and on and on about how good and perfect and totally not evil at all the Tau Empire is.
* As Lynata is quick to point out the policy of GW is there is no canon. And that it all is canon.
I love when Tau eradicate enemies that stand in their way.
Yeah those pesky unarmed civillians are a real threat to the greater good.

Fluff may suppot DE as evil, but it certainly doesn't support the horde-spam-in-your-face list that you see. Most DE list these days field about as many Venoms as other armies field infantry. And if DE field larger units in Raiders, Ork Green-Tide lists pale with envy. Gun-Line-Space Wolves aside, I don't think there is currently an army out there that plays as differently from the fluff as the new Dark Spamdar do.

Are you familiar with the imperium?
Oh yeah, the people who think they're actually space marines show up from time to time, but the difference is that they quiet down after half the forum dumps on them. The Tau guys have tendency to keep arguing.
You also assume that they're roleplaying. I submit that I genuinely believe they think they're ACTUALLY a part of the Tau Empire.

Oh, fair enough. But I wasn't arguing about tabletop crunch. I don't think anyone is, to be honest. How exactly is this relevant?

also, ive yet to see these posts harping on about the "perfect" good guys. i think thats hyperbole. 99% of the time, tau fans regard the tau as the closest thing to a "good" race in the 40kiverse. most quite happily recognise the greyness, and the imperialism. unless they're 8.

Hate is also a bit much.
I have yet to see a person IRL who really 'hates' any fictional race in the 40k verse. Most either don't like or have no interest in a specific race.
The interweb surely magnifies this.

At least most people arguing for the Imperium have some disclaimers attached,
The Imperium is more advanced then the Tau, however they don't disburse all their advanced technology to all of their troops. It isn't practical to equip every guardsmen with a Bolter and give him Carapace armor. The Imperium is also willing to have some risk associated with firing certain weapons because human life is cheap, the additional power comes at no appreciable cost.
mankind's technological achievments almost riveled the Eldar Empire at its height during the Dark Age of Technology, and much of that technology is still in the hands of the Mechanicus(albiet not quite understood)
The Tau method of FTL is based on a crashed Imperial ship's warp drive, it is markedly inferior because the Tau have no psychic abilities whatsoever.

I find Tau to be actually fairly grim dark. Yeah sure, they're cheery and hopeful, the hope of the galaxy for something better. But they're so small and insignificant. A pinprick of light constantly under the threat of being swallowed up by the darkness that rules the galaxy. If any other faction even bothered to take the time to squash them, they'd be wiped out. They're a futile hope in the galaxy. A final flicker of optimism, a little glance of what could have been. They don't realize it yet being the young fool hardy pioneering race that they are, which will only magnify their despair when it all comes crashing down.
And yeah, the fish names? Those are imperium names for the them. I really doubt the tau really call them mantas, devilfish, hammerheads, etc.
As for the models and tabletop, yes, I'd like to see an update for them especially table top. I'm sorta getting sick of being able to half ass a battle and sweep them off the board. However, I gotta say that some of the most badass conversions I've seen have been Tau related.
Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

3. They are not trying to bring everyone down with them

6. Animesq
7. They are a Religious cult (even though the Imperium is much worse)
8. People have trouble playing them so they tend to dislike what they can't control

I love playing the Tau. I love the fluff, the challenge, and the look of the army. I have played the Tau since 01' and will continue to do so with the kind of dedication more Space Marine players feel for their chapter. Being a Tau player has made me a all around better war gamer being the kind of challenges Tau face cause a different thought pattern then the run and gun style of most armies.
