I do not see why people hate Tau so much. Could someone please explain for me?

As much as I love Warhammer 40000 and all of it's awesomeness and grim darkness - I must here say Clone Commandos would won the day.

Space pope, their obsession with fish names, heavy anime overtones, some feel theyre out of place fluff wise, and did I mention space pope?

Mostly the lack of a 'u' and the fact that a 'Why all this hate...' thread comes up once a week. :(

Space pope is good, but I don't like them because they're so limited fluffwise. They're a recently risen people who're stuck in a little corner of the universe.
And their models haven't aged well. They lack the fine details and customization available in the newer kits.

The hate is many forms. People not liking something lacking grimdark in 40k, people thinking it was anime inspired*, and a combination of hating to hate.

It's basically inspired by anime though. It's an obvious attempt at marketing 40k to sinophiles.

Bonus points to you good sir. Tau came out at the same time the release of Wh40k in japan. If you say that tau wasn't in some way geared up for that release. Then you are smoking something and i want some. The tau hate is based on a bunch of different things. Right now i think its mostly because tau players whine to much about their codex being old. It was the same way with DE, You couldn't throw a stone and hit a DE player with out them complaining about their old dex. Personally its also a band wagon thing. One person says tau suck, enough people know that person and the band wagon started. Personally, don't take it to hard and just go with it. There are enough tau players out there, so really its just a common thing all 40k players have. The undying hatred of Tau.

Tau as a great way to play fluffy with plenty of options. You can use any model (Besides space marines of all kinds and tyranids) in a tau army and it can be fluffy. Think of tau as an ork army that gets to loot units instead of tanks.

I could be way off on all this but then again... Did you see that picture? that was good. Thank you again for posting that one. Gave me a good laugh

Personally, I hate them because of the fact that, of all the races, they have the largest likelihood of having a random fanboi pop up in an unrelated thread trumpeting the virtues of how amazing the Tau are in every facet of every last thing they do.

Sometimes the fanboi will actually talk like he is a PART of the Tau Empire, as if it exists physically somewhere.

It's disconcerting, and I'm unable to divorce the disturbed feeling I have over this with the army itself. It's probably my problem more than it is the army's, but what can I say? This guy here? Only human.

This.

I hate it when someone pops into an unrelated tactical discussion, about how Railguns and broadsides are the best, and better than everything in your army.

Really though, Tau are so different from the rest WH40K races philosophically, that they tend to become the target for a lot of harassment. Throw in the Fact, that they are probably the least threatening race on the galactic scale, and are considered weak on the tabletop, they become an easy Target.

Tau is far more related to star wars than any anime.

Wait, people talk like they are part of the tau empire? I've only seen ork players being jackasses waaghing, that annoys the crap out of me.

It is basically that the race was designed as the non-grimdark mirror to the mainly grimdark 40k universe. Some people find that you shouldn't have anything not-grimdark in the 40k universe and state that in every single tau thread they find, whatever the specific topic. On Dakka it is mostly 2-3 people dedicated to this anti-Tau-crusade, trolling all people who actually like the race, often with obviously made up evidence, when genuine sources won't suffice (that's why they never give sources).
Draigo wrote:Space pope, their obsession with fish names, heavy anime overtones, some feel theyre out of place fluff wise, and did I mention space pope?

Space Pope? We are not talking about Ecclesiarchy-hate here
Fish names? Were obviously given by Imperials. The homeplanet T'au is a desert planet, just saying.

Anime are Japanese. Sinophile means "friend of China (or Chinese culture)". Guess you mean japanophile.
daedalus wrote:Sometimes the fanboi will actually talk like he is a PART of the Tau Empire, as if it exists physically somewhere.

Actually, if you check Tau threads, you find more Imperial fanboys in there speaking like they were part of the IoM.

i dislike this kind of attitude that some people have, that the tau are somehow not worthy because GW designed them with a certain theme. And i would argue that they are no more designed to appeal to sinophiles than Space Wolves are designed to appeal to norweigans and danes...

The Tau may not technically be the most Anime of all the 40k races, but they are the most like Anime/Mecha of all the races.

This gives the impression of Anime more then others(Space Marines and Eldar are more subtle in their Anime traits)

Combine with the fact the Tau fluff is very different from the other Warhammer races results in them seeming very out of place.

There is also some lingering resentment at the Tau because they we added to 40k out of the blue, when there were other races in the fluff that would have fit into the setting a little more(Like the Ad Mech or Interex)

As such their fluff has a half-assed/jury rigged feel to it. They got stuck onto 40k like so much stucco.

You'd think he'd get a space popemobile...
On a related note, the superiority of their fanbase as I've seen them. I understand that my army is terrible, full of terrible people, who do terrible things. Yet all I hear about the Tau is how pure, and right and good they are. Of course I know that this isn't the whole fanbase, but the IRL players I've met have taken that stance time and time again.

Who cares about the Space Pope? I dont know any Tau player that owns the model so its not like your seeing him on the field daily and hating on him.... GW has a nice picture of him on their website... thats about as close to a Space Pope anyone is going to get!

As for the Anime theme? Meh... I love the robots. I played Marines for years and never really loved them.. I was going to go over to Eldar for all the cool Wraithlords etc... but we had a player in our group already and then Voila... Tau came out 10 years ago! Wooot... Never looked back still love them to bits even though they suck balls on the field and I have to play a solid game against sub par players just to get a draw!

Other than that... I hate marines... why? Its because its all anyone plays and its boring... People should be thankful there are still people playing xenos races that are in need of a major update! Chaos, tau, eldar.... its a joy to play them! Cause they are different! I never give any grief to a player for playing something other than marines.... (IG are ok too! =] )

We should all promote the use of xenos races.... Otherwise this all becomes Marinehammer..... Which it is to a lot of people already... Oh wow look another GK vs BA match! Wow original! Tau vs Eldar? Hang on lets see what happens here!

We arn't saying the Tau need to get axed.

They just need to be Grimdarkified.

A couple possabilities here.

Possability 1: The fluff goes into more detail about how the Etherial's are controlling the Tau with Pheremones, possably from a Kroot's point of view(he can tell whats happening) and otherwise they stay the same. This shows that the greater good is really just a sham the Etherials are putting on to gain the cooperation of different species in their goal of Galactic domination.

Possability 2: The Tyranids swoop down and almost completely destroy the Tau Empire, all the Etherials are killed in the process. The survivors join the Farsight Enclaves and the Tau Empire is reborn in fire as they destroy the Tyranid hive fleet. Farsight is revealed to actually be Farsight himself, kept alive be the power of the Dawnblade. he then begins a new period of conquest to establish the Tau as the rulers of the galaxy with all other races subserviant to their will. The Tau then develop a better method of FTL travel, still slower then Warp Travel, and begin a string of Conquests heading northwards into Ultima Segementum. This Crusade is slowed by Hive Fleets, Ork Waaghs, and Imperial resistance.

Hhmm kinda hostile aren't ya? The pope was mentioned as one of the reasons people dislike tau along with many of their outdated line. I personally am not gonna thank xenos players. Thats ridiculous such as the notion of a tau vs eldar being that much more of an exciting game. lol

Space pope...lol

Personally, I couldn't care less about them. It's because on discussions about the future and weaponry that Tau start spouting nonsense that their weapons are better than eveyone else's, and that the galaxy will be their's one day. A few half-wits would even go so far to say they will one day march on Terra. You don't hear Imperials whine about bolters, or Eldar about shuriken, but Tau do about railguns. Space Marines don't whine about power armor, but Tau do about battlesuits.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. Whats not grim and dark about an alien race telling people to join them or die?

No I don't dislike or like Tau. I used to play them ahwile ago, but they got boring.

I am just waiting to see the new Codex and laugh when everyone joins the band wagon because they are the newest most powerful codex. Which most do.
