Chaos is just beautiful. LOVE their new models.
Very "Chaosy" and not just by adding spikes/skulls. Awesome job.

DA are much worse.
Terminators are bad.. Terminators Sergeant is butt ugly. The wings on him look ridiculous.
Ravenwing bikes look nice. I like those.
Others - well.. marines..? Same as any other..

Good things are good,.. so it's good

Well, at least now we know what users have never held a sword.

Fact is; that's the best pose they could give a 2h-Sword guy while still making sense. He's not swinging it, he's not charging, he's holding it at the ready. Best way to do it. Close to the body means less torque, which alleviates unnecessary stress on his arms. Holding it away from the body would make it too heavy to protract such a stance for long amounts of time, holding it with 1 hand would be ridiculous, and holding it any other manner (upside-down? Sideways?) Though heroic, is ridiculous.

Holding a 2h sword out like that is stupidly heavy.

Only alternative is to have him with the sword sheathed; but they obviously wanted to showcase his usage of it.

Silly looking penis-sword, but the pose is practical and fine.

I do not play Marines so I could care less about the DA but they look nice ( I really want to convert the Librarian)

I do play Chaos however and could not be happier with everything I see in this box.

ditto, the ranged cultists are 10 times better than the CC variety.

I am guessing they will be better in game terms as well.

On the whole, they are all good models. But if you were to twist my arm I'd have to say that the Deathwing are a bit bland? Personally I'd like to have seen them done with a more aged design, sort of artificer armoured style.

On the whole I think the models are very good, with the notable exception of the repeats. However most of the models seem to have allot more character than AOBR or BFM.

Chaplain: Very sold build, dont know whats going on with the smoke though. A hooded skull would have been extra awesome.

Captain: Again very solid, if a little static. Helmet feathers look very good. Not hugely different from the normal DA captain.

Librarian: Very, very good. Lots of room for epic psychic power conversions from the palm.

Deathwing: Fairly standard. I dont like the feathers on the sergeant. Dont know whats going on with the "come at me bro" from the assault cannon guy.

Tactical: Pretty standard, but allot less static than AOBR. Sergeant looks very, very good. Good we are getting plasma rather than the usual flamer/missile launcher. Not a huge amount you can do on a normal tac squad.

Rhevenwing: Very standard, will be removing the "tail wings".

Chaos Lord: Extremely cool, very nice pose. They seem to have gone a little OTT with the details though.

Possessed/Chosen: Exactly the same as above.

Dread: Pretty good, lots of character. The back however looks very "blob" like. Due to the chaos effects, it would be difficult to paint this as anything other than slaanesh/nurgle specific.

Cultists: Quite good, the amount of repeats though lets it down. I shall be modelling these to act as both cultists and imperial henchmen. Would also work very well for necromunda.

I don't like that there's ravenwing/DA icons all over the place, but the models look just fine. I like the cultists, if for no other reason than it means Cultists in the next Chaos book. The chosen are aces for quick connect models!

I don't like the pattern on the Librarian's sword, that will be gone, also not keen on the smoke from the Chaplain's incense burners. As for the Helbrute, not sure what to think there. The rest I am happy with and quite like.

I'll give my breakdown on a unit-by-unit basis:
- Chaplain: I like this model a lot. I'm getting a Collector's Edition for myself just so I can have this model. The flowing cape, tabbard, and smoke make for a model with a good sense of motion to it.

I do not like the model, but it looks highly convertable. I am getting two boxes, so I will sell one of these if the prices are right on EBay either now or in the future and convert the other. I'll get rid of the stupid bits on top, that is for sure. Sadly, the Dark Angels emblem on the cloak looks sculpted on. That may be a problem. Actually, the more I look, the more I may just get rid of both...
- Master: This model rules. While his pose isn't terribly dynamic, it's not flat either. He's suitably blinged out for a captain, and the robes are cool.

Might just about be salvageable by slicing off the DA iconography and replacing the phallic symbol with a big-ass axe to make him an Executioner marine. Definitely chopping off his head wings.
- Librarian: No complaints from me.

Top notch. Sadly, the iconography is moulded on, not just painted, but I reckon I can get rid of the worst of it. I'll probably lop the sword arm off altogether and put an axe on it.
- Terminators: I don't mind the repeat pose, no big deal. The posing on the assault cannon and the chainfist are a little stiff but not atrocious. I like the sergeant a lot, but I can't decide if I do or don't like the wings.

Might sell these might keep, partly because the Space Hulk expansion, Deathwing, was awesome, and they bring back memories. Easy enough to get rid of the iconography anyway.
- Tactical Squad: They were able to actually make fairly dynamic models instead of the typical "I love my bolter" Marines, and I'm impressed. They're simple and uncluttered, which makes the Master look that much cooler. The sergeant's pose is a little odd, but the detailing is awesome so he gets a thumbs up from me.

Looks easy enough to get rid of the DA icons, so I am happy.
- Ravenwing: Excellent. Simple, but excellent. I'm happy to finally see bikes with modern bolters on them. Their poses and detailing aren't out of this world, but they're solid models.

Easy enough to de-Ravenwing, so I am happy.

- Chaos Lord: I'm in love. This dude is one of the baddest sumbitches ever put to plastic.

Huge improvement on the recent Chaos stuff, but still not as good as Realm of Chaos era stuff. GW Chaos has gone backwards since the late eighties and early nineties.
- Chosen: Just as good as the lord, with two minor niggling points. For one, I don't like the random femur bone on the lightning claw dude's loincloth. For two, the bolter guys are very cool, but how often am I going to shoot bolters from a CC squad? I don't care that there's two of this guy, just wish he was BP/CCW.

Very nice, but I prefer Nurgle!
- Hellbrute: The front of this model is awesome. The rear isn't very detailed in comparison to everything else, but I don't mind that much. It sort of evokes the RT era Chaos Dreadnought, which I like. I dig this model.

I am undecided.
- Cultists: I've already said I don't care about repeated poses. I'm painting metal IG right now for god's sake! Some of the close combat cultists suffer from the same posing problems as the AoBR Ork boyz, but not quite as bad. I still like them plenty, and I like the variety from model to model. I definitely dig these dudes.

It's interesting; while the sculpting quality has gone up for Chaos stuff it's drifted further and further from the mutated/semi-organic look of the Realm of Chaos stuff and into "Marines with spikes" territory more and more. This looks like a return to that, and I think we agree that's a good thing! While I like both aesthetics, I'd like to see where GW can go with this new/old aesthetic.

I don't play either faction, and don't need any of the models.

But dear Lord do I want the Helbrute. And if I managed to get the Chosen and the Chaos Lord, I'd be OK. But I love that Helbrute.

The Dark Angels are just Marines in robes. I'm not too impressed with any of them. None are terrible, but not seem really outstanding either.

Love most of them, what I don't like (mostly in the DA department) will take a wee bit of converting to fix up. Getting two sets, all of which will be dedicated to Chaos

Bath robes on the tac squad would have been ace... but I'm going to end up buying so many more marines + dark angels upgrade spru's that it won't be a big deal.

On the whole I'm happy with how they look and can't wait to get my hands on them.

Also I think the back of the terminator captain looks worse than the back of the hellbrute.

Definitely agree here. Realms of Chaos was the best stuff model-wise Chaos has ever had (and most likely ever will), and I've always disliked 2nd edition 40k and beyond for turning them into simple "spikey" marines with horns. Say what you will about 3.5 being a good "Chaos" book, it's got nothing on Slaves to Darkness!
That being said I am glad for more of a return to this aesthetic. If you notice, some of the Chosen backpacks have the creepy hand/claws holding the bulbs with vents which I really like. Hopefully we'll see more of this in the future, and I'm sure we will.

I've posted before that I don't care for these, but here is a thread asking for opinions.

Repeats. I don't want anymore repeats for the price of a starter box. Especially as many as are in this set.

The DA look horrendously cartoony. Over the top feather things. Plus, well, I don't need any more termies or tacts.

I like the termie with the assault cannon, but don't need it.

I'm not sure what I would do with three bikes with feather things. I guess purchase more to make them a real squad? No thanks.

Chaos lord is okay, but I don't like the horns or the pose.

Chosen look nice, although, repeat. And I hate the eye on the champion's forehead. Not particularly scary or awe inspiring.

Cultists are repeating left and right. I'd rather see some cool traitor guard or something.

The Hellbrute looks okay in the front, but the back is awful. Also, the withered head looks sad. Like an old man. Not terrifying like a chaos dread should be.

I was looking at this set as a way to build up a new Chaos army, but I doubt I will even pick it up. Just my opinion, but it does not look worth the money. If I'm going to do traitor guard there's other models worth getting.

The only parts of the set i don't like are the Chaplain (which is already gone off the US site), and the idiotically stubby multi-melta arm on the dread. The elbow joint is just a softy-detailed lump of plastic that connects from the gun to the shoulder. The other arm is great.

Everything looks cool... but I would rather have Ultramarines than Dark Angels and I think it'd be too much effort to try and convert them.

The Chaos models look GREAT and waaaaay different than the CSM I have now; my CSM look like space marines that went to a Misfits concert and got really into it, and these guys just look pure evil. Much more badass but i don't know how the new CSM would mix with my old ones.
