What a grim judgement.

The DA just are marines with extra detail. Idk how that can possibly be bad. They didn't go over the top either; they look like very solid Dark Angel Tactical Marines. I don't know how they can possibly be construed as bad.

"Those marines need less detail! I want blobs of plastic with bolters!"

Sidenote: I love the models. All of them. I could do without the reposes, but hey, they're snap-fit; what do you expect?

The Captain looks great; not too cluttered, but enough stuff where you can tell he's a captain.

Chaplain is a perfect way for GW to milk us for more money. Great model that will get a lot of people to fork out for the LE. Granted, I think the smoke-stacks are stupid, but evocative and badass.

Love the librarian. First librarian model I've liked. The robes break up the big blueberry look they usually have, and I like the DA hood inside of the Psychic Hood. Hood-ception. Great pose too.

The termies are awesome; especially after the ugly-as-sin AoBR terminators. They stepped it up; very heroic poses, though I hate that they didn't step up and have 5 different models. Terminators deserve it most out of any of the models; they're elite badasses.

Tac squad was well-executed. The DA bits are subtle enough where it's not "OHMYGOD LOOK WE'RE DA!!!" but you can still tell. I like that they kept them robe-free, as that would have been a bit detracting from the iconic look Space Marines have. Keep the robes to vets.

Ravenwing are just sick. Simple, well posed, crisp, A+

on to Chaos.

The lord I'm shaken up by; I don't have much taste for the look of Chaos, but he sure looks like he's a Chaos lord, so good enough for me.

The chosen look great. A little spikey for me, but hey; fluff says these guys spent a while in the warp, so I suppose it fits. The poses are amazing. I'd kill to have a squad of SM posed like this.

Helbrute is cool; a little smooth on the back in comparison to the front, which looks weird. Don't like the multimelta either, but whatever. Only thing that bothers me is the random tentacles bursting out from his torso under the CCW. "Guys...we need more spikes...where should I put 'em?" "Anywhere man, slap them somewhere stupid. Preferrably so the big guy can't put his arm down. Ever. If anything will drive you into a bloodthirsty rage, it's that."

Range-cultists look A+. The commissar-coat leader is very VERY cool, one of my favorite models in the set. So is the heavy-gunner with the apron. He is just begging to have blood-spatters on that thing, along with an appropriate "butcher" nickname. Don't love the "beakie" cultists though, but eh.

CC-cultists are great. Very standard cult-y, like how all of their CCWs look very improvised, and they all look ready to do some murdering.

Good job GW; can't please 'em all, but that's just because people expect FW quality from a starter-set apparently. It's a great deal, and just about everyone should get one.

The Dark Angels are fine, and some of the terminator molds and the characters are quite good. I just wish that the Dark Angels iconography wasn't so omnipresent.

The Chaos sculpts, particularly the lord and the chosen, are easily the best single piece models that GW has ever produced.

Am I the only one who thinks the DA Captain looks sweet as hell?

And the Librarian actually.
Bit annoyed the Termies are tactical rather than TH/SS. That puts me off starting a marine force. But then, i have no idea about the DA codex, they could well be a lot better.

The cultists look amazing! Easily some of the most '40K' models GW has produced in a long time.

The ltd ed Interrogator Chaplain doesn't really float my boat. His pose feels hidden under a lot of robes, kinda like a toddler inside a winter jacket that's two sizes two big.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

Compatable with the box set termies? I thought they were snap-fit.

Kind of eliminates the point of scouts if they're tripping over their own robes, doesn't it? Hard to be stealthy when you're falling on your face. Even so, robes are for veterans in the chapter, not scouts.

On moon miranda.

My honest opinion?

While technically excellent in terms of sculpting and detail, the marines are rather stale and look far too much like the "righteous paladins of goodlyness", not enough of the "genetically engineered xenocidal super soldiers with deep psychological scarring that pathologically commit atrocity to hide past sins", while some of the Chaos models in many ways have the same issue the plastic Daemon Prince does in that it looks "WoW"-ish, though I'm hoping that's partly attributable to the paint job. There's a lot of cool stuff on those Chaos models and I'm liking that they're going to a more organic/twisted style than just "marines with spikey bits".

I think the models look really good for what they are and above all are a steal at the price you are paying.

However, having said that, I will not be getting any of it. I just don't need any of them.

I think we've construed you don't like them, you don't have to keep telling us.

As for myself, I think they look pretty good, will probably be making some sort of a chaos force with them.

They've been doing swords like that with DA for years, since their 4th ed update. If you don't like it, it's not hard to just shave the offending area of the sword off or replace the blade altogether.

Stupid pose, ugly sword, ugly wing head. He reminds me of a DA castellan srowe.

Then again, he's plastic, so it could be worse.

Eh? Do you mean there's a separate Deathwing set with TH/SS to come, or merely that GW are releasing the requisite arms and weapons separately from the present Terminator Assault Squad box?

obviously I think its a great deal and am buying it regardless of its contents. I need a rulebook and I could either pay $75 for a heavy book or 100 for a light book and some bits for the olde bit box.

Technically I think the models are better than AOBR.

The problem comes with what i actually want. I am building a chaos list and was really looking forward to cultists, the dread, etc.
The chaos lord looks great, as do the chosen but honestly there are a ton of good looking chaos lord models already out there.

The hellbrute, he looks ok. I like most everything but the face is atrocious. Is that bobba fett in the center of a teeth lined mouth? Why would you have a mouth with the pilots head in it? And the horns, why so many horns?

The cultists with rifles are ok, they look chaosy without resorting to spiky andor horns. The ccwpistol dudes are bad, really bad. "in the grim dark future of the 41st milenium there are only spiked clubs" Seriously are knives that rare that one has to resort to pipes and homeade spiked clubs? The poses are bad. I am not sure what they are doing other than posing for photos for their mother.

On to the marine side.

The chapolin is awesome, worth the effort to convert away from DA. No complaints other than his stupid weapon, which I am going to snip off and replace anyway.

The marines are good, they dont all have the same bolter pose. I can deal with them. The sergent looks awesome, although his pose is a little off.

The terminators are good, except for the sergeants wings. They look dumb being straight out and high. Dumber than chaos terminators with their trophy racks.

The librarian, ok he works.

The captian is dumb. He looks like his is holding his sword like a 6 year old. Like he is clutching his mother's skirts. like he doesnt know how to use it.

The bikes, who puts bikes in a starter set? Unless you are doing a bike army, few people need bikes, they are a lot of plastic for not much use.
