The world setting could make for an interesting game for sure. It's not like you have to be Kevin Costner.
No one has to be Kevin Costner.

Waterworld is actually one of my favorite movies. It never made much sense to me why so many people hated it. It's pretty much a carbon copy of Road Warrior/Mad Max except with boats instead of cars and water instead of gasoline. People love Mad Max. Why do people not like Waterworld?

I didn't mind it, which is why I'd like to see it in a game (ignoring the old SNES one)
I think people didn't like the movie because it had too much water in it

It's funny and difficult to explain, personally I think it was to do with the amount of hype that surrounded the movie when it was being made and when it was released.
The production costs (it was being heralded as the most expensive movie ever before its release), the destruction of the set during filming, loads of script and production staff changes that got publicised in the movie press at the time. At that time also Kevin Costner was starting to lose a bit of his 'star power' as it were, and wasn't seen as a 'cool' movie star any more. Also, as you note it had borrowed elements from Mad Max.
Just an impression you gained from reading movie press at the time. I certainly don't think it was a bad film, and very enjoyable in parts. But, it seemed to catch the movie press and bad publicity at the wrong time, and I think suffered for it at the box office as a result.

Yes. Basically Mount and Blade, but done like... really well. And hopefully you get to kill The Limper.

Only if I get to be a Himmit.
As to what I would like - any one of the three -
A remake of Final Liberation, with more races and all the FMV glory.
An RTS done in the style of SupCom with a scale that covers significantly larger areas, but historically based. Think Age of Empires meets Supreme Commander, with an in depth logistics/manufacturing chain ala Anno or Settlers. Like if you want cavalry, you best get to capturing and taming horses. And you better keep a breeding size herd behind when you leave for war or you will be crippling yourself. I assume AI governors would have to play a fairly large role, and ideally this would cover from neolithic up until the dawn of gunpowder. I'd also like to see something replace traditional tech trees.
I'd like an RPG style game that covers a couple of solar systems in great depth. Free roaming, like you fly your ship to a planet and then land it if it is capable of atmospheric flight, where-ever you want on a planet. No more "Now you landing on this planet in a cutscene, it's an ice planet with two zones. You can also go to this planet, it's a jungle planet with two zones. I want planets with entirely different biomes that you can explore. It wouldn't have to be more than 2-3 inhabited planets, but I'd want to be able to free fly where ever and do what ever.
So basically I need technology to keep evolving before I get what I want.

Thank you for giving a go at explaining this one. It seems to me that it turned into a "perfect storm" of hype/wrong release time/wrong cast, and people just found it cool to mock, then other people stared mocking it to fit in, and we ended up with a fairly good (I'm not saying it was revolutionary in film-making here) movie that nobody wanted to come out in support of.
At any rate I'll give one more game I want to see. I want a sci-fi Diablo that is actually good! It seems like any game that tries to port Diablo into sci-fi setting is destined to suck (and I have examined almost all of them). I really do not like fantasy as a setting, but want to enjoy my loot/level driven RPG experience dang it! I guess a FPS will cater more to the style of gunplay I'm looking for, but I want to see an isometric "shoot and loot" game with class trees and specializations based on weapons dang it.

Pretty much yes. I really enjoy Borderlands and it is the game I have the most time invested into on Steam. That said, I keep trying to find an isometric game that does a sci-fi diablo without being a FPS. The closest I have come to finding it as an old game called "restricted area" but it was not made well at all, and lags horribly on any computer that is not running Windows 95. Plus the official patch contains errors that breaks the game. Whenever that happens you know you have issues.

A few games actually...
First one: An Elder Scrolls-esque game, but set in the Warhammer world. Your PC, throughout his/her adventures collects trophies from the gods, etc. and if you display them, different towns react differently to you (ie, if you're wearing a mark of Chaos or Nurgle, Khorne, etc. depending on how far down you've gone on your chosen deity's path, you may be attacked on sight, warned by guards, or not even noticed... On the flip side, if you're wearing a ton of Sigmar stuff, they'll hail you, discounts in shops, etc. but if you go to a Chaos type town, you're fethed)
The other one I recently had:
Take the Star Wars Commander mobile game, and combine it with the FPS style of play from the Battlefront games. Thing is, your number of "lives" in your mission is directly tied to your base enhancements/number and type of troop in your garrison, etc. Basically, as opposed to dropping a bunch of storm troopers or whatever outside an enemy base, and watch them helplessly get slaughtered, YOU control individual storm troopers or whatever, and YOU control what building gets shot up when. This would be especially cool, IMO, if this game were to use the mobile app for the base building/research type game, and when you fire up your PC, Xbox, or PS4 or whatever, it connects your mobile game to the main one (to synch and allow your missions to be properly done) Automatically Appended Next Post: Da krimson barun wrote:Assassins creed black flag but with more ships,(y you no give me first rate, ubisoft? the entire world(It is my RIGHT to bombard london with mortars!),more pistols, going below decks AND a chance to save blackbeard from death.
Meh... if they dropped EVERYTHING from that game, except the boats, I'd be pretty happy. Seriously, a naval sim of that caliber would be really fun. I don't want to leave the ship for anything, except maybe a shop for upgrades... but even then, that's what a quartermaster/captain's quarters are for

Sly Cooper 3, of all the crazy things, was a game that had a pretty good pirate naval aspect to it as well. There was this whole "sink/capture the sip" portion of the game completely divorced form all other aspects of the plot. It always ended up being the aspect of the game with the most replay value for me. I already had all my pirate stats maxed out long ago, but I'd come back and capture a ship or two long after I beat the main game just because it was so dang fun!

There, I said it. I actually enjoyed the MW story arc - yes, it was hokey as hell and pulp tripe but fun nonetheless and I thought the characterization was great; I really ended up empathizing and caring for what happened to the protagonists. I think Captain Price was an excellent character and it would be a shame if it were the last we saw of him.
Having said all that, not sure where they would go with the story given that it appeared to have reached a definitive conclusion at the end of MW3.

Well might as well add that to the list. A mmo that dose something different. :S

A Deuse Ex mmo where players are free to complete their objectives how they want and where bakeing the game is even encouraged.
A crafting mmo with kinetic harvest moon/zelda style crafting.

I actually did a whole little writeup for this idea. You wouldn't be able to just kill anyone. The players would be killing NPCs not other players. The idea would be that a game would play in a week long segment. One player would be assigned to kill an NPC selected by the computer, then another player would have the case thrown on their desk with a week to solve it.
I was also musing that the whole thing would have a supernatural slant to it and mystical powers would come into play here and there. Like you might be trying to solve a murder committed by a zombie or a ghost.

Or you know.. Mark of the Ninja 2. A real Thief Game...... Warcraft Four would be awesome. A sequel to the everloved Bastion would be awesome. A Rouge Legacy 2 would be awesome. A Stick it to the Man 2 would be incredible. And also I would like to see a continuation of the Shadow Caster game. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ShadowCaster) Which fun fact is actually Raven's Softwares First FPS. Which Raven Software later merged to become Activision. This is techincally their first big game. And it is an RPG game FPS except you can transform into different creatures and solve area puzzles and fight bosses with different equipment that you find.

Does anyone else remember the original Mindwinter? It and its sequel were sandbox games from the 16-bit era that were quite ahead of their time. In the first one, a group of post-apocalyptic survivors had settled an arctic Iceland-like island, only now it was being invaded. You started off with one character dropped into a random corner of the map, and had to find and recruit other people (with their own soap-opera personal subplots that affected who would work with who) to form a resistance movement--and you would control each new character as you recruited them, giving you a growing network of influence, even as the invaders spread, occupying towns and taking away your precious geothermal power plants. It was semi-turn-based, so you'd play out an hour with each character you controlled, then see how the enemy were advancing. You got around the map through cable car, hang-glider (finding thermal currents to keep yourself aloft), snowmobile and skis. A well-done remake with the same fundamental gameplay and Skyrim-like graphics would be absolutely amazing.

"The 75mm gun is firing. The 37mm gun is firing, but is traversed round the wrong way. The Browning is jammed. I am saying "Driver, advance." and the driver, who can't hear me, is reversing. And as I look over the top of the turret and see twelve enemy tanks fifty yards away, someone hands me a cheese sandwich." |
