Good, more time for me to put this off!

I actually got some work done today. Put the layer of plaster/filler stuff over one hill. Once that dries I’ll flock it. Not much, but something done.

I did paint one container, but am not happy with the green. Might just go over it with grey.

Not a lot of progress on this, but hopefully I’ll get something done.

C'mon, Nev, git-r-done! I want to see the Farm again.

DJ, that pipeline's gotta be close.

Arakasi, hitch that trailer to something and drag it over the line.

Also, there's some very good work that I haven't seen submission photos of yet... please don't do all the work and then not submit. Let's make this a productive weekend!

At this point my entry might be down to a badly printed/painted cargo container and a single lame hill. Stuff I’m almost ashamed to enter. And I might not even get it finished, although I’ll try.

It has got me think more about terrain though, and I’ve got other stuff ready for work. Just not a lot of motivation at the moment.

It would be if I had been working on it much. I have done a few things. My schedule changed at work and I'm mostly closing, so I plan to work on it this week during the day while Mrs. DJ is at school.

MacPhail, I followed your suggestion and got some pressed pvc for the base. It is turning into a bigger piece than I originally thought, and I may not have bought enough. The finished thing could end up being over three feet long. Fortunately, it will also be modular, so I could turn the pipe partway through. Or, just leave it as one massive, table-splitting monstrosity.

I'll likely not post (m)any more pics here, but anyone who's interested can look for them in my P&M Blog

Go team, go! Get those projects over the line! DJ, sounds like it's going to make it... Nevelon, I'm sure whatever your got will charm us fans of the original Battle at the Farm.

Dont forget to leave time to take pics and PM me.

Another update. Working on basing.

Gluing down sand and making tire tracks around the piling.

Today I'll be working on details. Painting, graffiti, etc. Aiming for League level of detail. See you at the finish line!

On course to get my submission in this weekend, thanks to the deadline extension I've even had time to paint up a little bridge for my river.

Showtime, everyone! Get those photos into my PMs and I'll start writing up the judging thread and scoring the entries!

Alright everyone! It's time to roll over into the judging phase. I'll have to go dig through my PMs to be sure I haven't missed anyone, but I think I have finished submissions from the following entrants:

Captain Brown
Mothsniper
Tek Thornison
DJ Jazzy Jeff
Orsino

I'll start compiling photos for the community voting thread and try to post that this weekend, and I'll start on the rubric scoring right after that. I'm going to source the connection to the theme from our conversations in this thread and in PMs, but feel free to retell the sordid tale on unfinished business here for the benefit of your peers.

To those who didn't quite make it, don't give up! Your unfinished business needn't stay that way. There will be another awesome contest theme coming soon from the winner, so go clear your benches and get ready, everyone!

I’ll eventually finish. One of these days.

Any progress is good progress, and this contest got me moving. Not very fast, mind you, but moving.

Grats to everyone who got something done!

The voting thread has been posted here... please go vote! Link to the poll from your P&M Blog, email your gaming group, and talk up the contest everywhere... all the votes count.

I'll now turn my attention to scoring the entries, and I'll announce the winners of both the contest and the popular vote after the 10-day poll closes. In the meantime, you should all think about what you'll propose for the next topic if you win, and I'll start putting together some bits bags for the two winners.

Thanks for a great round!

All hail the winner of the 33rd League of Extraordinary Riveters Terrain Contest, Mothsniper! The finish was a close one, with the top three entries within a five-point spread on the 100-point scoring rubric. (Check out the entries at the end of this post.) Mothsniper will be entitled to fly the League’s venerable banner in their signature and will of course be offered the honor of designing and hosting the 34th round of the contest.

Mothsniper entered both a long-lived challenge from the past and an ambitious test piece for the future. I scored the two components as one, penalizing them both for the shortcomings of either to eliminate any advantage. Still, I found the materials to be challenging and unique, the design admirable, the construction techniques a solid blend of core skills and innovative approaches, and the final product to be very evocative of fantasy adventure. High points included the dangling roots in the dungeon and the illusion created by the “floating” vegetation… both a reasonable substitute for the detailed rivets we love to see.

As I mentioned, it was a talented field of entries. DJJazzyJeff assembled a wonderfully asymmetrical assortment of collapsed pipeline segments; I really enjoyed the design choices around mixing angles and sizes, and the Dakka user name graffiti was a brilliantly executed homage to peers. Orsino’s massive resin river project got high marks on theme for being first a vexing absence from the table and then a failed first effort; the extra attention to detail with submerged items, bottom contours, and beautifully crafted ripples and whitecaps should make the finished product a great centerpiece. Tek Thornison created a towering monument to both 3D printing skill and Imperial might; the scratchbuilt plinth and the propaganda posters gave the whole assembly a great degree of realism. Captain Brown delivered some excellent Object Source Lighting effects on a piece of terrain that forewent his usual scratch building talent, but delivered a great final effect nonetheless.

The “People’s Choice” poll ran for 10 days and was essentially a tied race between Mothsniper and DJJazzyJeff for the fan favorite, with Orsino at times running close behind. In the final day, Mothsniper pulled ahead by a single vote, and will therefore receive by mail a goodie bag sourced from my drawer o’ terrain bits. Congrats to the “People’s Choice” winner, Mothsniper, with a shout-out to a very close Runner-Up, DJJazzyJeff.

So, thank you to everyone who participated, including those who wound up arriving at the deadline with yet more “unfinished business.” I’ll PM individual rubrics and scores to the entrants later this week. Congrats to all the finishers, the fan favorites, and the Dakkanauts who enjoyed observing the process… see you next time for the 34th LoER Terrain Contest!

Congratulations Mothsniper, and of course to all of the other contestants who managed to finish - a prize in and of itself.

Indeed, Mothsniper, congratulations. Impressive work. I’m thrilled to have finished my terrain, and honored to even be considered as close to yours as I was. Cheers to all the competitors.

I'll reach out to Mothsniper again and see if things are shaping up for next round. If the end of the month rolls around, maybe a subject poll will get things moving again?
