Last wip, hopefully can go to other city soon again cause I want some actual basing for this one rather than the translucent stand.

Still a lot to do but ok, maybe gives a bit of a spoopy impression of where its going.

Man, need to get the lead out. It is already apparent that extra models will not be happening, but Twilight Cloak is prepped, at least.

still kinda a wip even though I wouldn't wip anymore but.. sigh.

That moment you spend two hours working (not finished) on a harlequin and the end results looks like it's unpainted plastics after you ardcoat it.
edit: will probably use some matte varnish over it and then add some more lighter shades so that it doesn't look grey-plastic sigh.
It's shattered mirage from the codex illustration btw, which is why it's not in white.

Grey is one of those colors thatā€™s just rough to paint. Not technically, but because our brains have it tagged as ā€œnot done, bare plasticā€. I have the same issue with white as well, as thatā€™s what I prime with. So whenever I see open whitespace on a model, my immediate thought is ā€œI need to get some color on there"

I have it mainly with black because most my minis are primed with oxyde black (amsterdam paint, as good as citadel when it comes to such functions)
White when laquered does look finished to me, offwhites same. But this result just makes me cry (not literally).

Still have to do some checkers on it, no clue how people manage the superminiature checkered patterns all over' unless using special brushes but I'm lazy and use the same brush for everything until its bust and needs to be replaced with another cheap one heh.
Master using cheap brushes seems better for me than ruining expensive ones. (still keeping 2-3 very expensive brushes of which one is made with some rare animal's hair lol, to be used in 20 years or so when I'm finally a pro-level painted, not going to wreck it now)

A few checkers look as good to me as a full on checkerpattern but power to whoever manages that.

At first it was difficult to get used to the oil paints, but I think I'm getting a little better at it. Two colours on Eversor are ready. The red paint is very glossy because it is fresh, it gets more matt when it dries.

Ok last wip then, fixed the too dark too plastic looking "offwhite" grey, way better now -_-
Atleast now I can start painting the checkers on heh.

Good looking stuff so far!

Leopold Helvine: Always that annoying bit where you just have to trust the process. Good luck on the checkers! Mine aren't great, but my usual method is to paint the underlying checker color, then lines of the other one, then cross lines, then fill in the crosses--I feel like long straight-ish lines are easier, and then the intersecting lines give me (and viewers eyes) guides to work with.

Halfling84: going to have to play with those at some point, just the cleanup looks annoying. Model looking good so far.

As for me, got something done in reasonable time I think so:

Nailed the checkers so well I am actually proud of it. Detail phase on the harlequins, then its time to paint bigger checkers on the vehicle
Also still have to do all the guns and ofcourse some extras to make it more Samhainny.

Still waiting on a mail from the city wh store for my order, wanting to get some bases from them too to do something with sigh, if it gets too tight to the months end I might just give up on the order and go anyway and buy whatever.

One more work in progress update.
The jacket, the hat and the swords need quite a bit of work, but other than that it's shaping up. I might even have a chance to get her done!

Thinking about making a backdrop and a plinth for her, but I'm not sure if I'm able to do that during the Spooktober.
If not, I'll post the finished pictures using her own printed stand.

Edit, did not notice this:

Something that fits sisters or Drow, so... "Fanatics?"
That sounds oddly familiar though. Not sure if that theme has already been done in one way or the other.

I think weā€™ve voted on ā€œfanaticsā€ a few times, but it never made it. Itā€™s a broad enough topic to float again in the polls.

Edit:

Forgot to add, I still get a laugh out of your ā€œroughā€ WIPs that still need so much more work. Stupidly amazing as always.

Message on a Stick - Flags, banners, boss poles, or a lance with an explosive tip. Anything goes as long as there's a clear message delivered at the end of a pole.

...

...

But please don't vote for it. I have a few banner bearers, but none of them is even assembled. You don't want to cause me extra work, do you?

- In and out of the ground (zombified); paint whatever in its resurrected form, pale or green with bulging eyes and looking for some brains.
- nuts (either something feral that eats nuts like a monster-squirrel or a crazy professor, maniacal berserker or apocethary who drank the wrong potion)

Maybe something with the cartoons? There was a discussion some time ago about painting toys from 80's cartoons. It may be something that was in some cartoon, or a scene or character that wouldn't be out of place in a cartoon. I think most of the 40K would fit

I had an idea this morning:

Generals, wizards, psykers, every Devastator squad's sergeant, they also serve who only stand and point - miniatures whose impact doesn't really involve physical effort on their part. Maybe they've got a holstered pistol on their hip, but it's their index finger that matters to the course of the battle. Sure mages say they're expending tremendous effort, but they're just standing there muttering and waggling their hands around really. The polar opposite of "Don't call me 'sir', I work for a living," judge them not by the perspiration of their skin but by the content of their cranium.

I know 'officers and wizards and stuff' has probably been done a bunch of times already, I was just having fun thinking up ways to phrase it.

Weā€™ve been at this long enough that the same ideas pop up. Besides the fixed months, I think we only had one true duplicate though.

Now my brain is working on pointing puns

Yeah that entry isn't finishined cause he forgot the squig :l

Also, went to the city today and bought 350 worth of warhammah including a proper BASING for my samhainny harlequin project, so will be doing some spoopys in the coming days concerning, and also ofc. still need to do the decal and linework (and gunz) on the spoopyweaver.

I like the word spoopy, I will call my future children spoopy 1 and 2.

For those not versed in orkish color theory,

Red ones go faster
Blue is lucky.
Purple is stealthy. Have you ever seen a purple ork? Didnā€™t think so, itā€™s working.

Probably missing other colors, Iā€™m not an ork player.

yellow is wealthy (teef are yellow and a currency too)
white is dead/undead
black is stronk
orange is squiggy
green is supposedly best (which I agree with as someone with a big blood axes army)

edit: funfact; some of my rocketlaunchers have orange+red whirling rockets on them so they go extra fast and boingboing.
