How much of that is accurate may be a matter of debate. Ghouls aren't right in the head, or so some jealous agitators claim.
I like that idea so much it’s now the official story for this character….

New comp up, start painting. One more day here.
@Llamahead Is that first brown pic the proof, or is there some weird color thing going on, or am I going mad. Neither of which would be out of place for your subject.
@straken619 Looks amazing, and I want to use you as an example for general advice for the crowd. Feel free to ignore. You have up to 6 pictures, you have used 4 here. They are all good pictures, and show the whole model. With big models if you want to get the whole thing in there, each detail is pretty small. People can click through if it’s a link to a full image (something you can do if hosted on Dakka) but they might not. You can crop down a pic to a specific feature. Even if it’s the same pic as one of your other one. Just to focus attention on a part, What’s your favorite part of the mini? A part you are particularly proud of? Let’s get a full pic of his ugly face, or a screen full of dark-flaming sword.
A lot of times there are models entered I’d vote for if I could actually see them better. One main culprit for this is lack of good cropping. Or people just posting one far shot of their entry.
I swear one month I’m just going to forgo the poll and set a photo challenge, where we spend as much time talking about crop, focus, and framing as we do hue, warmth, and brushes.

I absolutely second this! Many, many times I can see someone has done some really nice work on a mini but the photo is just not clear enough for the details to shine. I use a simple mobile phone but just make sure I have a uniform background (piece of card) and zoom in just enough to capture the relevant details.
On some models, like last months Ironjawz brute, I went the extra mile to fiddle with white balance and other settings just because there was so much detail I had worked on that I wanted people to see. It’s a shame not to take as good a pic as you can of your minis, particularly with all the care and attention everyone puts into this every month.
P.S Straken619…that is wonderful work

I always hate the way my models turn out -on photo- because no matter how much money I throw at photography set up, my camera is still my camera and my eyes will always be superior.
So it will never look as good as I see them in their actual state sigh. A good example was the electiried necron I couldn't for the life of me photograph complimentary of its insanely awesome electric effect, it just looked flat on pictures, only the rotational vid showed the effect but that isn't something that applies to the vote. (nor should it)
I personally also have the handicap of photographing with an actual camera from the 2010 era or so, while most people here make photos with a smartphone with massively better resolution. (I don't own a smartphone nor will I ever get one, lifestyle choice btw)
I have looked for better camera's often but even occasions are very expensive out here (ranging around 1000 euros -WITHOUT- the lense) so I just had to settle on this, it will never get better than what it is now.
I also know that there are programs today that use AI to smoothen and sharpen smartly' while best I got is photoshop (I never use for this though, too much of a hassle) and Irfanview (I always resize and reset the color values to what my eyes see as my camera slightly fades the saturation, but its still tough to come anywhere near the real look) and so I cannot really compete there either.
I think my strenght is just my creativity, and kitbash abillity I am pretty persistent with.. photography.. well.. I know all the theory but I lack to resources because of expenses really, or I would've already had that 1500-2000 euros package macrolense powercamera with a life of 2 years or so.

Must be frustrating sometimes… I’m sure there’s a couple of fairly reasonable suggestions on some miniature ‘youtubers’ for cameras though. I think I saw one from Trovarian and Squidmar too (cheaper cameras that is)
I remember the Necron you mentioned, it was a shame that effect wasn’t fully captured.
Interesting your comment about the smartphone. Up until a couple of years ago I was the same. Eventually I caved when my partner gave me her old one and I just found it so useful for a satnav when working. Eventually I used it for the pics too and now it’s stuck. I still don’t like smartphones for a few other reasons though… I think I understand your sentiment.

Making the best of a bad job with these really. Also my camera refused to focus on their faces for some reason.
Update - I managed to finish one more zombie, and get somewhat better pictures of the trio.
All final images in this spoiler.

My camera is six year old Canon EOS 4000d. They cost about £320 (380 euros) new on Amazon, but you can pick them up for almost half that on ebay, used. I don't have a professional photography setup, just a desk, cheap adjustable tripod, a couple of daylight desk lamps (£20 each) and a piece of black background felt, or just plain white printer paper. Take photos in RAW format so you're not losing any lighting/colour data, then export them to photoshop and even if you've over or under exposed them, you can fix that on their camera software before converting the files and doing whatever you want to do to 'tart them up a bit', so to speak. Like I combine all my photos into a collage and put text on them. Even with my terrible publishing skills you can come out with something more than passable. I haven't spent anything on photography in years (barring the yearly photoshop subscription, but you can probably get decent enough free photo software) and I doubt I ever will again - unless in some extremely unlikely event I become a professional painter and/or photographer. Even under those circumstances I may not.
I also watched that Trovarion vid about photography setup and it helped me a lot, even if I still can't remember what all the camera settings do...

I've been much tighter into this tbh, I have lived without internet wholly since 2014ish for 6 years straight, having discontinued my isp and sold my gaming consoles etc back then. In fact I had absolutely no electronics of computing' at all, also did away with my television subscription. Only tech I had was a landline phone and that was that.
During 2019 started using library pc's again though and got a laptop around 2020, then a second one (with internet) around 2022' which I still use to this day -at a family adress- as I still don't have internet at home nor care to.
Before 2014 I was a fulltime composer making soundtracks for videogames, I got so extremely isolated and lonely because of it that I just snapped one night and decided on all that, to reconnect with the physical domain.
I often think of doing that again, especially when I get bullied online or feel overstimulated from all the content everywhere.. Can't say I got less lonely, the world is a lonely place now with most people putting all their attention and interest into the virtual domain rather than at eachother, but I did find a nice community center at my town where I sometimes play live piano for people and get some free coffee in return.
Getting into warhammer was pretty much because of wanting to do something physical and real, after having invested so much in digital content.. even if its just standing there in a cabinet I can hold it in my hands and show it to people ..well.. once a year when someone visits me on my bd that is heh.
Anyway, I have to admit that I am contemplating leaving this community over something that happened again today and a while ago but ok, I'll first have to see what response I get from an admin I contacted about that.

I usually use all 6 pictures to get the models from every angle but the way Be'lakor is with his wings I think only 4 angles really work.
To be honest I never considered taking some close ups even though now that I think about it I have seen a lot on these challenges.
I will have it in mind for future challenges but for now these 2 crop down photos will do.
Good job pointing it out Nevelon.

I have so much respect for what you are saying here, and I admit I have felt the same way myself in the not too distant past.
Not too long ago I went three years without much in the way of human contact at all. My internet usage was limited and I absolutely would NEVER have a smart phone. Obviously that’s changed, but I use it now in a limited fashion and aren’t on any social media sites (Facebook etc)
It’s true what you observe, in particular regarding this new isolated and atomized world, and it’s sad.
I have joined a local group I attend at weekends and I too enjoy this hobby for the physical aspect of building and painting tangible things.
I hope you get your concern dealt with.

The insurrection on Vigilus is beginning to show it's true colors, that's no mere mutation!
"Personally, I prefer the seismic cannon. It completely pulverizes the target so there's no rock to carry out."
"I suppose, but I prefer the precision of the mining laser; carves out exactly what you want to and nothing else."
"...besides, what happens if you accidentally open up a fissure right under your own feet? I've heard that can happen"
"Nah, you just have to read the rock you know? Then modulate the power at the input with the trigger."
"I suppose."
"Say, wanna trade? Just for today I mean."

And here's my proof pic. I wanted to get the whole squad done, but in the end only managed the exarch. The other models didn't get much past blocking in the base colours:
