I'll have to show you some more of the Malifaux stuff I've got clunking around then Mr. Inquisitor. It's a dangerous rabbit hole to head down.

Decided to get back to painting some Khador stuff.

Some early paint applications on the somewhat Commissar- looking Kommander Malakov. I bet if you filed off all his Khadorian markings, he'd make a pretty decent 40k stand in.

Unfortunately he is one of the few Khadorian survivors I have. Most were put to death or exile as the Trollbloods took over my home. As the troll units have slowly been making their way to warmer and safer lands instead of on my shelves, Khador survivors have slowly been making their way back home to the Motherland.

I miss Harkevich. He was one of my favorite Khador models. Might need to get another one of him. Or the new Strakhov and his Kommandos. Or another Zerkova and her retinue.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Malakov got finished this weekend, despite being super congested and sick.

Both gentleman obviously have attended the North Korean school of pointing towards important things.

I'm at a loss on how to proceed with that Hac Tao though.

Back to Khador, I got my Koldun Lord ready for action the next time we play Frostgrave.

He'll be done soon enough. I had to borrow a wizard for our last game of Frostgrave. It didn't end well. Bob the Inquisitor straight up murdered my super expensive ranger on one of his mage's first activations, and I rolled absolutely abysmally despite casting all sorts of stat boosting spells on my soldiers. In the end he murdered my entire warband, with the apprentice passing away from his injuries (he was old anyways) and my soothsayer somehow making it out alive.

Next time he will face the glory of the Motherland!

And once my Koldun Lord has leveled up a few times, turning into a proper killing machine, he will be graced with a new model!

The new Greylord Forge Seer model! Man do I love this figure! He's HUUUUUGE!

Totally makes me want to pick up some cheap Man-o-Wars and use them for Templars or Knights in Frostgrave.

I also started building some of the Shieldwolf Shieldmaidens. I even attempted to paint and convert a few.

We'll see how they all turn out. I have a few more Khadorans who should be finished up soon, and then it's on to Custodes and Sisters of Silence.

Nice work, as always. The Shieldmaidens seem to lend themselves to outrageous kitbashing. I ended up backing out of KS, so I will have to enjoy them vicariously-- more weird conversions, if you please.

At first I thought the Koldun Lord was pretty boss. Then I saw the Greylord Forge Seer. (please tell me that's a plastic mini.) Those paint jobs really bring them to life; the red and gold make everyone jelly, but the grey says, "I'm approachable." Also, are they wearing stars of David?

The Shieldmaidens look good with heroic weapons and excellent with SoS arms, but I'm not sold on the chaos marauder hands and face. Perhaps some lipstick...

I really enjoyed playing Frostgrave. Hope you had a good time, too. Next time Shooty McShootface will be spared.

That Koldun Forge Seer is an awesome figure. He really is huge. He's mostly resin. His arms were metal, and I believe his hat was as well. Pretty nicely cast as well.

On first glance they do look like Stars of David, but they're a lightning bolt symbol thing in reality. The Greylords are all mystic types anyways, and considering their Eastern European stylings it wouldn't surprise me if they were the Khard version of Kabbalists or something along those lines.

I have a few more Koldun guys I'm working on. They'll show up shortly. I regret selling off my Obavnik Zerkova now.

The Shieldmaiden with the crazy proportions are mostly due to being made of mostly Forsaken parts. She's not done either... she's still too normal looking.

I'm going to try some Kingdom Death bits on them as well as whatever guns I've got left from my Sisters when I finish that unit up.

I got a bunch of Kingdom Death resins in the mail on Monday from the Easter release, so I set aside Khador stuff for a day and decided to paint some new KD ladies instead... from Halloween.

That's the Dark Paladin. Who has now been broken three different times. At least I did a decent job of repairing her. Every time was due to my fingers getting hooked on the little claws on her wings.
I don't like how her eyes look in this photo. She looks better from a face forward perspective. I like how her skin turned out. I had tried doing it grey like the artwork, but it wasn't working for me, shading and highlights or not.
Probably going to brighten up the little parasite creature that gives her all her abilities later today.

Also have been starting work on the Latigo posse. Here's Perdita looking very incomplete. Probably should have taken a photo of her when more work was done... oh well.

Since today isn't windy it's time for me to go cheat on the Custodes and Sisters and have them all magically turn gold!

Shieldmaiden progress.

The Chaos- tainted champion gets a bit more prettied up.

and their male counterparts coming in behind them.

And something that I put off doing for a long time...

A Sword Hunter from the White Speakers of Kingdom Death. If I hadn't actually gotten this figure in a box from Mr. Poots himself, I would have sworn it was a recast. I really should have contacted them and gotten a new one. She was an encore figure, but probably the worst cast KD figure I've ever gotten.

For starters, none of her parts fit. Like, there were huge unsightly gaps. I tried to fill most of them in. There was also a lot of mold slippage all over her body. When you consider that like most KD figures she's scantily clad and it's all flesh that's getting messed up, that was a real problem. I tried to cut and file as much as I could.

Then there was her sword and strap arrangement on her back. Those parts were so thin and rough! I tried to clean them as best I could without breaking the pieces, but there wasn't much give as I tried to clean them off.

At the very least, her base coats are all done and I can start to try and make her look somewhat decent. I cheated and angled that really long sword on her back to be balancing against her foot and glued it to the base as well, so she's a little better supported. Prior to that she was balancing on the ball of one foot!

The Halloween pinup looks like she's taking a bloodtick selfie. Nicely painted. Is she a chromatic homage to Drizzt?

The shieldmaidens are coming along nicely. They look dangerous and colorful. I like how the colored cloth and hair break up the chainmail and armor metallics on the first couple. The gold is nice, too. A teaser for things to come.

That KDM mini sounds like a disappointment. For the premium price you pay, Poots should give you a replacement for a non-premium product.

That's not the actual Halloween pinup though- this is.

The Dark Paladin just came out with the Necromancer, coincidentally at Halloween time.

Spent a bit more time cleaning up that Sword Hunter, and I'm feeling a bit less irritated with her now.

She needs a bit more work before I'm completely satisfied with her, but she's definitely coming along nicely.

I also tried to finish up work on a figure that's been sitting around here half- painted far too long now.

This poor Hac Tao Hacker has been stripped twice already and has at least 3 or 4 different coats of greys and metallics on him. I'm hoping once he gets deglossed the details come out a bit more apparent. I tried painting his striping like the original line art. I'm thinking I might go back with a blue or green and hit those tubes of his, since they all seem to be glowing in the art.

Speaking of things that have been sitting around, I also got started on the last few Wargames Exclusive Tau I have. Because even more are set to arrive next week. While it's early, they should match up decently to my already painted ones. Maybe some day I'll paint an actual GW Tau?

Last up is Malifaux's Alison Dade, muckraking journalist at large! She just showed up last night, and is such a randomly normal model (for my collection at least) that I had to get started on her!

She just may end up being my next Frostgrave Soothsayer! Her pen only speaks the truth, after all!

Debating if I want to attempt to pinstripe her leggings like in the artwork for her....

Wow, I wish I could paint up my minis as fast as you do!

I feel your pain with the Sword Hunter, I've received some pretty poorly cast minis from Kingdom Death in the past, like my Female Visionary who not only had a pretty bad case of mold slippage but actual chunks of the mold embedded in her recesses.
It's one of the reasons I stopped buying their resin stuff.

I wish I could paint up minis as fast as I could. Usually I get bogged down in family or work stuff that takes precedent. Given my full attentions I'd have probably completed a large chunk of my collection!

You also got me worried about my Visionaries now Aku! I've got both regular and pinup versions, and maybe I need to go inspect them a bit more closely to make sure they'll be alright.

I've found that if I get the first run stuff, even pretty late into the run, they tend to be nice quality.

So despite spending most of my weekend either cleaning up to host Mother's Day brunch at my place, or shuffle my wife all over the place since she is free of her indentured PTA servitude with the Japanese school, I did get a couple of things started.

I gave Alison's pinstripes a shot.

Still need to do her base and fix up a few spots on her.

I started and finished my Arkanaut Admiral!

I'm actually pretty happy with him. Even more so after seeing his rules in the new White Dwarf. Once I'm done painting the new dwarfs, I think it's time to finish up all my Warhammer Quest villains so we can play the game properly painted.

Also started up on these two dwarfs!

Both are pretty early in painting, but I REAAAAAAAALLLYYYY like these two. Top hat balloon man was a very fun build. He's got some cool rules in Sigmar as well. I think I need to post on GW's community page and have him see some Quest rules as well!

Brokk Grugsson finished. I had to reglue him to his base two times. Finding something to help prop him up while he dried was probably the hardest part of assembly. Wish I'd positioned that flight stand a little farther back on the base. He doesn't overhang it or anything, but from the photo it looks like he's super lopsided.

Frustrates me he has no Quest rules. I want to use him, dagnabbit!

Now that I've decided on a color scheme for the Kharadrons I have , I started in on my Ironclad as well. Probably going to build some of the ground troops while I work on the flight crew of the Ironclad.

That boat is definitely having to be built and painted in stages. There's no other way to do it. It would probably make a lot of sense to spray that airship down, but nope, I'm just going all in on the brushes instead.

My *hope* is to have it done by this weekend. We'll see how close I can come to accomplishing that. I do have a bit extra time on Friday afternoon due to having a half day workday.

So my frigate is under way officially now.

Got the instrumentation panel and floors done, started in on the dark parts of the hull. Guns and other deck parts will be attached shortly.
Going to need a lot more brass on this baby though!

My Wargames Exclusive Tau are nearing completion as well. Which just means the next batch will get started!

"The Samurai"

"The Assassin"

"The Sergeant"

They all need more work on their bases, highlights on their armor, grenades and ammo painted, but they're getting there. I just want them out of the way so I can start the ones still in their packages.

Here's a shot of my finished ones- the sniper is hiding in a prime location to pick off Imperium forces.

This weekend saw the bulk of my Kharadron Overlords force get fleshed out. Grabbed the Endrinriggers and built most of the basic troop types, along with the Thunderers. I ended up with a fair amount of extra heads and arms across all three kit types, so after procuring a set of extra bodies we'll have all sorts of kitbashed Dwarfs read for action.

To prepare for their adventures they obviously need a boat ready.

Here is my incredibly sloppy, Cygnar- esque Arkanaut Frigate as it slowly comes together.

I promise it will look better! There's so much to do with it still. Not pictured are all the crew for the boat as well, who've all got their coveralls and basic brassy armor painted.

Here's another member of the crew though.

That's an Aetheric Navigator who is a lot farther along than the boat he will be riding in.
I hate how my golds, coppers, brass, and and bronzes all kind of blend together in the photos I take!

The other two new heroes will be making appearances soon as well, and once they're all done it's back to Warhammer Quest baddies so we can finally play the damn game!

And the last two Kharadron heroes that came out this past weekend have been showered in metallics.

Not much to look at yet. I hope to get the basic troops started painting this week as well.

I've been having too much fun with the heroes though. I hope we see some more guys like this down the line!

We'll need some ground armor to act in tandem with the skyships. Some sort of mining mech or something....

Not much has happened with the boat (not worth photographing at least- it's making progress slowly), but the crew are definitely preparing to embark on adventure soon!

The Endrinmaster himself is almost complete. Blurry pic doesn't help show all the different metallic elements on this dude. I love this guy and his ridiculously huge hammer.

His rules aren't too bad, but the fact he can heal up ships if he's with them is pretty nice, plus his whole overcharging his harness to do super high damage is neat.
Not pictured is the cool little tool belt attached to the back of his anvil harness rig.

Still trying to figure out how that extra visor on him grants a crazy Cyclops blast missile attack.

Here's the first of one of the Arkanaut Company guys I've tried painting. Satisfied with the overall results. Would look decent on any ship colors too.
I started finishing up my Sky Warden guys, and with all the leftover Khardaron bits I've got I'm going to start building up some cobbled Privateer types.

Early work on some more Wargame Exclusive Tau operatives. Should look better once I start working on them in earnest.

Work continues on my sky dwarfs.

Aether- Khemist should be finished this weekend. Base is decent, now it's time to spruce up his giant backpack and beard of many pipes!

While I've been doing all the non- flesh of the Kharadrons, I figured it's time to finish up my Doomseeker as well.

Still needs a fair amount of work in certain spots- I forgot a few of his runes and his beard is in need of some serious shading and highlighting.

And whenever I've had some excess paint, I have been trying my hand at painting orks from the Shadow War box.

Unfortunately with their bizarre poses and spine curvature it's difficult to photograph him. Why are they so hunched over? I don't get it. It seems like the kit has a lot of similarities to the old plastic fantasy orks, making me assume you could probably mix and match parts, if you were so inclined. I'm not!

Of course I do have those Flash Gitz that need painting...

Yeah, I hadn't really finished drilling that barrel out. Problem fixed!

So I *almost* have that damned frigate done. Talk about a pain getting all the pieces put together and painted- lining up the struts that hold the engine things aloft was a pain, as all the constituent parts did not really want to line up correctly.

Now it's time to touch areas up, highlight the portholes, add a bit more chrome and polish to the metallic areas, and finish up the base (which is already in the process of getting painted).

While I'm doing that, I got back to work on a few unfinished weird west pieces.

Fat guy that looks vaguely like Ron Perlman is a Wild West Exodus Outlaw (if you can't tell from his giant base) and more work has gone in to Perdita (which probably isn't as noticeable sadly).

Y'know, in person, her gun doesn't look that bad. But I'll grant you it does look ridiculously large in her hands in that photo.

I'm not a fan of that Perdita model either. The way her head is molded looks strange, and from what I remember, it's one of the earlier plastic models. The pinup version of her looks way better. She actually has a legitimate face!

I got a bunch of sloppy progress shots for what I've been up to. Gotta keep posting 'em or I'll never get stuff finished before I head out of town for the bulk of June.

Wild West Exodus dude and his hollow waif buddies. Trying to decide what to do with whatever is in his mouth he's smoking. I probably should put some yellow/ orange on the tip to show it's lit.

Dorothy from the Twisted! steampunk line and Sonia Criid from Malifaux. Dorothy is a cool sculpt. There's a lot going on. I just haven't gotten to painting it all yet. Slowly but surely...

The second of the Necropunks and the first of my Oiran that I started painting. I still have the idea of doing a pure Ten Thunders/ Yakuza/ Triad warband for Frostgrave. Could be fun.

My Dwarf Cogsmith from latest Warhammer Quest game. Eventually we'll play the damned games, if I could ever finish painting everything! His gun brace and banner are getting painted too, they'll just get glued on when it's all done.

Not sure if I want to glue his engineer buddy on to the frigate or let him wander all over the tabletop by himself.

And now for something totally different- a Midknight Hero Super Chibi figure!

This is Takata, unbuilt obviously, which is one of their newer figures from the last successful Kickstarter they ran. He's an interesting visual homage to guys like Hotsuma from the PS2 Shinobi game, Date Masamune from the Sengoku Basara series, and a bit of the HUcast series of characters from Phantasy Star Online.

Here he is all put together with a Super Dungeon figure for scale reference.

This figure was a must purchase for me. Love the design influences, so naturally this guy is right up my alley. I hope to get him painted before we leave. He's got a buddy that takes his inspiration from Briaeros from Appleseed, but I haven't built him yet (mainly since I don't like the backpack design with the guy).

Only downside to the figure was the residue from the mold was a PITA to get off. Gave me some Raging Heroes flashbacks. Multiple scrubs later, the pieces decided to stick together.

Yay! The frigate is based and ready for action!

Actually it still needs some touch up in a few spots, but it's as good as done. Unfortunately I have a ridiculous backlog of stuff that needs to be sealed now. We're looking at close to 50+ finished models including the frigate now.

Felt so smug with myself I up and ordered an Ironclad to go with it....

Continuing work on the Latigo posse. Perdita is pretty much done, so it's time to move on to her best bud Santiago.

Still need to do his eyes and mouth, and take care of the metallics. Not satisfied with his shirt and vest combo. Might make the vest a darker grey/green, and put a white or off white shirt underneath instead.

Had to base him on a 40mm base though. He totally did not fit on a 30mm one, rules be damned.

Continuing work on this Wargames Exclusive Tau Sniper/ Pathfinder/ Specialist girl.

Wrapping up the Cogsmith.

That makes at least 3 finished Quest heroes now (I'm totally counting my previously purchased Lord Celestant in that count). Probably should get around to that Gryph-hound that came with the Celestant one of these days. And then the whole pack of them as well...

My son has expressed a strong desire for me to get off my butt and start painting up my plastic Lord of Change. Supposedly he wants to use my Tzeentch stuff against the Duardin. Fair enough. I think I will try to get some Tzaangors and Acolytes started at least before we head for Japan.

Of course if he could play Khorne, we've got more than enough of those guys finished.

Also began working in earnest on my Khadoran Frostgrave project. He's got a while to go though-

Yuri the Axe, a homicidal hermit woodsman who was pardoned by the Motherland in order to go butcher up their enemies. Fair enough. I think he may just be lonely. Maybe if I have a female Manhunter he wanted be as prone to homicidal rages? Then again, a couple that slays together, stays together...
