We all know that 40K has some crazy amount of models/units, and it can be pretty tough to pick just one to be our favorite. I myself, am conflicted with two particular units that compete to this day for my favorite. My question is, what is your favorite unit/model, and why!?

For me, the two models that currently slap fight for the spot of favorite are Big Mek and Weirdboy .

As a relative green horn to the world of 40k, I remember when I was first asked by a buddy of mine if I wanted to learn. This was during 5th edition. He had Ork models from an AoBR box he had bought at the time and the ex-Ork Codex. I was instantly drawn to these models, compared to the Marines and Tyrannid he had avail to choose from. I began to flip through the book, looking at the entries that matched the models, which were just Boyz, Nobz, Warboss, and Deffkopters at the time. We played a quick game, and I had fun despite my overall confusion at the end of the game, but I didn't really try the game again due to money issues. But I did begin to look at models over that time. I saw Weirdboyz, which sparked my big first impulse to pick up the game.

Borrowing the Codex from my buddy so I could review the units, I began to read up on Weirdboyz, and these guys pretty much sold me on Orks in general. They seemed to be the very definition of what Orks were all about. Wonkiness and the potential to pull off some cool tactics that could either win or lose the game. "Ere we go!'', or now known as "Da Jump" was, and still is, my favorite Psychic power. While they were unreliable, I often chose to run Weirdboyz every single game I played when I started playing for real in the middle to end of 6th edition.

Now in the new codex, Wierdboyz just became amazing. Access to a revamped Ork exclusive table, along with a few other charts that have high risk, but high reward as well. With our powers being generated at the beginning of a game, and not having to roll one randomly in the middle of the round made them so much more reliable and dare I say, powerful! While their wonkiness wasn't as strong as before, I felt they still preserved their Orky flavor while still dishing out the damage and carnage such a unit SHOULD, and thus continues to grow on the list of favorite unit!

In summery, Weirdboyz hold high regard for me as the model/unit that started my love of the Orks. But even this sentiment has trouble combating the reason I love Big Meks.

As I began to really dabble into Orks, and began to buy more and more models, I began to understand the strengths and weaknesses my army had. Mainly being the inability to survive heavy gunfire. I loved to run my Orks primarily as a CC and hoard army. Nothing was more fun than moving all those Boyz up the field! And I won't lie and say it wasn't equally as fun removing them by the handfuls when a template fell my way! But not every game do I wish to lose! I had to find a way to make my Boyz LIVE!

Thats when I really looked into what the Orks had for toys. Big Meks, and their coveted KFF. This model/unit was what really skyrocketed my fun with Orks. A 5+ cover was such a helpful tool! And that wasn't even where the Big Mek stopped giving. I began to look into Ork walkers and vehicles in general, and the idea that he could double as a protector and medic (to vehicles of course) blew my damn mind as a brand new player, and to this day the Big Mek still wows me with his versatility.

He can be a shooty unit with his signature Shokk Attakk Gun, allowing for some pretty funny mishaps or some brutal deaths if he lands his mark. He can now hop on a bike to support anyone he needs too with his new and improved KFF, keeping foot soldiers, walkers, and transports in one piece. He can run over and smack a vehicle with a wrench to give it last second aid, either fixing a immobilized vehicle or walker, or fixing a much needed weapon or HP. With his new Relic, he can do this even better than before, or even bring along a super charged KFF for more reliable saves.

As such...they tie. My favorite Unit(s) is: Weirdboy and Big Mek!

I have three armies

In my ork army, my favorine one is my Warboss with heavy armor and power klaw. He is the boss and no ork armies of mine can consider going on the battlefield without him
For my eldars, my favorite one is the Forgeworld Avatar. Just for the sheer look. Its mean looking and I really like it.
For my marines... now here is a real challenge. This is my main army and my largest collection.... I think that my Chapter master on bike with Shield eternal is my favorite one overall. He is powerfull, solid with the shield and has an impact in all my games. Furthermore, I spent a lot of time on this model and I really like its look.

The big winner : Chapter master on bike with shield eternal, relic blade and Artificer armor.

* I have to say that NewGW impresses me a lot...

Thanks for sharing! Though I have to say, I dunno if I'm too keen on facing that Chapter Master XD

Oh boy...gotta be the Aspiring Sorcerer. Just feels good to hold and has lots of sigils and decorations on its armor. Color scheme of Blue/Gold really pops out and looks royal. Also, has a power weapon, which always look cool.

Nomnomnom! I won't lie, Nids have some the best models in the entire franchise.

So many to choose from

I'm going to say Genestealer for me from a nostalgia point of view.

I remember playing Space Crusade with my brother, pulling an alien event card that was a genestealer, and then having it proceed to rip through the marine squad they were one of the reasons I chose Tyranids as my 40k army (among other reasons)

Plus they look cool and remind me of alien xenomorphs which I also really like.

Yeah! They are kinda crude and vicious looking things, a sort of 'back bone' to the Nid race, like the first thing you would encounter during their invasion and thus the start of your nightmares

Hey, you're the one who was asking for opinions on what people's favorites were. I just gave you several hundred opinions. You're welcome.

Unless, of course, you made this thread just to share your own opinions, and didn't really care to listen to what others have to say.

I probably have 2 favorite units. The first is Sanguinary guard. The rules are solid, in my opinion, though apparently i get more mileage out of mine than most people do. But the models. Oh god. Soaring wings, intricate armor, the most awesome looking weapons in the game, and have you seen DAT BANNER!? I honestly love everything about them. The fluff is amazing too, with each one of them being regarded as a hero of their chapter.

But the unit/model that is catching up to them on my love list has to be sternguard veterans. The new kits are AMAZING, with so many bits and guns, with the robed legs and amazing torsos and mkVIII armor (which is my fav power armor) its just overwhelming. Their rules are perfect as well. 22 points for a vet marine who has a gun that literally tackles every non vehicle problem in the game. You can just imagine a group of 3 or 4 of these dudes seeing a daemon prince swooping down at them and saying "hey, is it Tuesday? Tuesday is the day we kill 20ft tall chaotic incarnations of violence, right? Yup. Switching to hellfire" before blowing it away.

Part of me wants to say "Fulgrim," but I'm not sure Primarchs fall within the scope of this discussion. Otherwise, I would go with my Sicaran battle tank. Tougher and faster than a Predator tank, with a different weapon profile capable of handling most situations.

I must say that my favorite models are the ork nobz, I just really love the models themselves, the ramshackle looks and the customization, and there has never bee a game where they haven' gotten my warboss into combat at least once, they are the ultimate bodyguard unit imho.

As for blood angels, must be either DC or SG, the its are amazing and they bot wreck face when used effectively (even blood angels can do stuff) only downside about SG is their armour reminds me of that terrible George Clooney batman movie (bat nipples anybody?)
