Time for something else than the age old marines. The Necrons, asfar as I´m concerned, are one of the toughest armies to make look awesome. The miniatures themselves aren´t as "epic" as most of the marine ones for example, and colours and theme are a bigger factor in how it all plays out. I decided to look at this as a challenge. I´m also going to leave home the comicbook look and NMM, and step outside my comfort zone by going grim´n´dark. I looked at colorthemes for 3 days and when I found one I like, I set out to do a Wraith to lock my theme in place:

I want my Necrons to look like they´ve been entombed for a while. The metals have been shaded with brown and blue inks, to give random shade variations ( because Living Metal. ) The "ceramic" parts are a few layers of grey blended lighter, with some wear and rainlines on them. I decided to leave the orb at the chest metallic to avoid going too disco. In the base there´s some shale, autumn flock and a shot Eldar head from the 40K basing kit. I chose the colours in the base to give contrast to the miniature.

Thanks mate. I can´t wait to finish the whole squad and I expect the bigger things in the army, such as Ghost Arks, to look pretty nice.

Really superb work. The weathering is great, and you've carried off the "powdercoat" look nicely. My on constructive criticism would be to reconsider the basing. It works from a color-theory perspective, but something about bright autumnal foliage (or alien lichen, whichever) just doesn't jive, aesthetically.

Awesome paint job. Love the color choices. The base is a little distracting though. Maybe something more neutral?

Just forgot what I was going to say.

Impressive! The blue and white-ish give off a nice "cold predator" feeling to it. The weathering is especially nice.

Thank you guys. I decided to probably paint the orb on the chest on each Wraith as it started bugging me afterall, and I´ll probably add some cork to the bases to enhance a scenic feel. Will still be using the autumn flock though, as I like it, alien lichen describes it quite nicely I think.

Righto, finished the other Wraiths and got a minimum unit painted up now. Did the details mentioned above, I updated the image in the original post. One Wraith is based to appear from under a pile of metal sheets ( etched brass ) the others are swarming ontop of rock ( the bases also have some shale stones and autumn flock. )

Thanks. I finished a few Crypteks, one having the whatever orb in his hand and one lacking it:

These guys are a pain to paint, thanks to Citadel Foulcast. My god the amount of filing and smoothing I needed to do... anyhow, they turned okay. Did some more effort on the staves as they are pretty much the only real eyecatcher in said miniatures, and also did some added rust to relay the "elderly" feel these guys have as the wizards of Necrons. I gave the other a base that slightly "leaks" outside the edge of the base, and the other one is standing ontop of a SOB helmet.

I received my order of ´crons from GW today, and inside was also this random booklet, completely blank pages, some sort of customer gift I guess. I figured it must be a diary for a fresh Necron Lord.

Nice work again!

GW do seem to throw in neat extras with their orders now, last week it was a print of the Space Hulk cover art which I'm pretty gutted I missed out on!

Making me want to get into a project mixing fantasy Undeads with Necron. Awesome pics man, you really did the miniatures justice. Thanks so much for sharing.

I just wish Citadel would gak the finecrap resin casts and produce plastic and metal. Ugh.

Thanks for your kind words.

I wasn´t happy with the Crypteks at all, infact I was a bit ashamed when I posted them. Decided to put them back on the table and did the following changes:

-Reduced the amount of wear and "sharpened" it by blending, making the features of the miniatures more clear.

-Dampened down the rust by washing.

-Added some shades to the blue orbs and jewelry.

I am now satisfied with the end result.

Well, if you check out Sister Sydney's homebrew/expansion rules, you'll find all kinds of units the Sisters could have, that fit with the theme of the Sisters (as a tabletop army) perfectly well, and are damn-near-perfectly balanced.

I’m updating that fandex now & I’m eager for feedback on new home-brew units for the Sisters: Sororitas Bikers, infiltrators & Novices, tanks, flyers, characters, superheavies, Frateris Militia, and now Confessors and Battle Conclave characters

Thanks. They are Agrax Earthshade and Drakenhof Nightshade.

Night Scythe:

My painting has been slowed down by work quite a bit, but finally managed to get this one done. Same theme and thangs, added a crashed SM bike to the base. I took a different grey though, one with a slight "Undea Flesh" type of tint and will be using that one from now on. Gotta apply it to the already finished minis after the army is done. I didn´t blacken the engine exhausts as I imagine Necrons having more sophisticated tech than just plain normal afterburners.

There´s a torso of the driver in the back of the base but forgot to photograph it, maybe next time.

Just wondering but could you list the exact paints you used for this? Or maybe a tutorial. Your style and theme is amazing and I would really like to maybe replicate if at all possible.

Cheers matey. Here´s a list of paints in order of usage and advice, I might possibly do a tutorial in the future:

-Silver undercoat spray ( doesn´t really matter what shade, pick one you like. )
-Citadel Agrax Earthshade ( washed over undercoat in metallic parts )
-Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade ( washed over undercoat in metallic parts )
-Mithril Silver/Boltgun Metal, thinned down layers to fix the pools made by the washes ( pick one that is closer to your undercoats shade. )
-Skull White for "ceramic" parts undercoat.
-Ulthuan Grey for "ceramic" parts basecoat.
-Vallejo English Uniform for grey parts weathering ( any dark brown will do really. )
-Massively thinned down English Uniform ( or any brown ) for the rain lines.
-Blazing Orange for rust on the metal parts ( again, any similiar orange is fine. If the rust is too vibrant, kill it off with Agrax or thinned down brown. )
-Blue parts are blended from Vallejo Electric Blue to Glacier Blue.
