Wow - Best diorama ever.

Seriously, it is immense. I think the painting and the effort in the basing and finishing of it are top class. This is a contender for the win.

The only point that I would suggest would be the 'action' between the models. I know that they're psykers so its all in the mind and all that, but it would be great to get something physical that joins the two as a point of contact. Duel is all about the duelling! It all suggests - about to duel rather than - about to chop your head off!!!

Its your model and its fantastic, but would something like lightning coming from their fingers or something less tacky be possible? I dunno, just a suggestion....

Gitsplitta wrote:Incredible work Chris... love the grass patches and especially the leaves strewn about. Really gives it that "calm before the storm" feel. The only think I'm not totally sold on is the energy glow around the power cables. Has nothing to do with how you've painted it... I've experimented with it myself as it makes complete sense, I just don't think it translates well into this medium. The blue chinstrap effect I find distracting... though it makes perfect sense in context.

Minor beef really, and it's a matter of personal taste. I't been a great ride watching this come together... thanks for sharing the process of making a really high-end diorama with the rest of us!

I agree, the face-glow really does look a bit odd. A bit too... sudden? I can't think of the word. The power cable glow I like a lot.

Very great work as usual. I personally enjoy the amount of grass.

i have to say looking at the picture this is amazing i love the eldar symbol on the cloak, what am i saying the whole eldar is amazing. but with a good comment comes a bit of critisism im not a huge fan on the lighting effects on the termis chin it seems a bit to thick and not "glowe" if you get what i mean but i love the base it really gives the feel of an abandoned eldar ship or maiden world

a cow and a calf are cut in half, and put into some cases, to call it art, however smart, casts doubt on arts hole basis.

I can't even begin to find faults in this diorama. The only thing I could say is that the Farseer's eyes need a dot of reflection on the lenses. Contrary to what some have said - LEAVE THE GRASS! I think that it does look natural and really ties the model together as a whole.

All-in-all - amazing work!

Awesome work, and glad to see it almost finished. Agree on the grass with Alpharius, looks just right, both amount and location.

One question - how are you going to fit this on a 40 or 50mm slottabase as per the duel requirements (if it's still going into the duel category), on a plinth of some sort?

Like the object source lighting too, agree it's a bit heavy in places but having done some on my librarian dread I know it's hard to get it looking 100% correct. I like it though, esp. the symbol on the cloak.

Are you sure - http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?aId=10500056a

This says different. (I know some of the other GDs have 12"x12"x12" (like the Australian one))

Since your doing this for demon I will be straight so please don't take it in any negative context:
1.) Your metals are flat and have little depth.
2.) The freehand is really sloppy and needs to be cleaned up.
3.) Your checkers are 2 tone and you do little to show a well blended effect.
4.) You are not taking natural lighting into account thus making everything to even all around. Models that win in any demon take light source into affect when painting.
5.) Finally some of your painting has a little bit in the run off lines that needs to be cleaned up. All in all not bad but if you want to be in it to win it you need to do a lot more work on this baby.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

i have a couple of issues with what you have said empchild... first of all the checkers are not at all flat maybe there're some probs with the pics... natural lighting has been top of the agenda... look at the shadows under the hammer in the picture under the montage... yes the free hand needs to be crisper though it's not what i'd call "really sloppy" ... unless you're comparing it to this: http://www.jeremiebt.com/pages/page_diapo.php?page=pub_ravagehs_freehand&img=../images/gal/publication/freehand_ravage_hs//DSCN5940.JPG

the metal however does need a little more definition

but however thanks for spotting the run off lines i hadn't noticed them

and remember... i'm 10 years younger than you and if i win a silver in GD (which i highly doubt) i'll be the youngest person ever to get that far... and as far as i know only one other 17yr old has a bronze and he is now on the 'Eavy metal team

thanks for the tips. e'm sorry if i took your comments a little overly personally empchild i've literally just got out of bed thanks for them anyway

Hi SoO

Absolutely stunning model! love the metallic lighting on the shoulderpads especially, i can never get the hang of the technique.

C&C? well, my only point that i'm not sure about is the hair stubble, from the photo it looks a little dark, like he's smeared tar on his head. But as you mentioned previously, it could be a photo issue.

Again! superb work

Eh like I said was only being so overly critical since it is for demon... ooo and look up Dylan Gauker. I believe he was 16 when he won his slayer sword.

well that'd mean he won a gold at 14 which is damn impressive! though GD UK is the hardest one to win. especially with the likes of team spain and platoon britannica attending.

e.g compare Dylan Gauker's sword winner with that of Fernando Prieto Carbonell

by Dylan Gauker

by Fernando Prieto Carbonell

that is why no 17 yr old has got further than a bronze or silver in GD UK and i don't think i'm up to it either this year... though hopefully i'll get a demon next year if all goes to plan

I agree with you, but was showing you young guys have won. Now keep in mind you posted it on the forums asking for C&C and I gave it to you. You got upset which hey I am sorry I looked at it how the judges would. I know you have spent a lot of time on it but if you put somemore in you may have a real shot, but if you take it to heart and wear your feelings on your sleves well maybe you should wait a while thats all. I have several friends who will be at that Games day and hopefully next year so will I and if your going to enter something go for a demon right! The only difference between gold and bronze is a judges personal preferance, Jakob Rune Neilson told me that.

"and remember... i'm 10 years younger than you " That doesn't have anything to do about his criticism tbh. Empchild
is honest and is telling the truth. The judges don't care if your 17 or 40.
Don't ask for criticism if you can't handle it in a good way. He gave you tips on what to do better and I think you should think about them instead of neglecting them. That's all.
