Empchild i'm sorry for taking your criticism the wrong way... in all honesty i get some of the best advice from you.. i've given what you suggested a go... i've tried to tidy up the free hand, the cloth has a lot more definition though i'm not sure how clear that is from the pics. the the paint on the face still looks a bit thick but i don't know how to correct that really :( ... and ass for the armour i've shaded that down to a matt purply browny black. have a look at the pics and if you have a more suggestions don't hold back it is for the best in the end

well I've got a couple of GD things finished or near finished now. so here they are:

Empire Warrior Preist.

Sentinel

there may be room for improvement so if you spot anything or have some tips let me know. they have to be finished totally be Tuesday evening.

I understand man don't sweat it. The only trick to a demon is time. As per the priest with the checkers just have one of the sides highlighted. Your checks in the center still seem to look like you layered them.have the lower points of each check be highlighted while your highest are darker. As per the vehicle it look amazing. Can we see the cock pit. Your right their on the empire just another not even an hour on the middle checkers and I think you will have it. Good luck

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I love the realistic feel to them, and the priest looks really good. You don't see them with a checked pattern on thier robes that often so I think it stand out a bit more than the regular dark red robes people usually paint them in.

The power cords/tubes may need a little attention - as it is right now they kind of stick out.

Maybe they could be 'dirtied up' a bit?

Other than that, everything looks great!

i've been thinking about freehand... and i think there is plenty of room for improvement...

it's not this level yet.

as to the cockpit.

the crewman before being put in. the red thing on his chest has been tidied up now

the lip/tongue have also been tidied up

detail shots

@ blackclaw1 the face is painted with the usual highlighting etc. what gives the shading are a number of very thin washes. i shall do a tutorial at some point at is't too hard to explain without pictures.

Awesome stuff! Looking very nice! But I do have something to say: the priest is kind of a bit much. The blood is fighting for the eye with the checkers, mostly becuase the checks are also red, while others are that bright blue but it is distracting. It may be too late now, but next time you might want to try painting the checks white and black, it'll be a bit less overwhelming.

dirty up the shoulder armor and upper torso of the driver. He is too clean for a vehicle so worn.

Don't cut off the wires, they stand out. You might consider finding a way to tuck them in by the legs and back, because if those are power chords, they would easily be shot off. Dirty them up a bit. wires get black all over them, just from being used. Also, try to crinkle them some. Put a few indentations in if you can. Of course, this may be more difficult than I think it is; what material are you using?

On to the warrior-priest: good subtle-lighting, but are those bumps on his face supposed to be bruises? If they are, you might want to consider adding some red with a bit of blue-ish purple to them, or some greenish yellow, depending on how long they're supposed to have been there. Greenish yellow comes first, meaning they're relatively fresh (which also means that a red-purple bruise on the cheekbone like that would likely be an immediate concussion, if you want his injuries to look 'fresh')

Anyways, great work as always, just a few things I've noticed, advice, you know. Good luck at the GD!

Yeah, keep the wires, don't snip them off. Just dirty them a bit more, the red looks too clean compared to the rest.

Don't remove the wires completely, maybe shorten them a little?
They do seem a tad long, maybe a little shorter could sort them out?

Hi all

fixed up that wire problem with a couple of simple grey washes

sorry about the blur on the top pictures... the camera must have miss-focused.

... and the finished duel/diorama.

the focus was a bit shoddy on them as well... i'll take some better shots soon but you can get an idea from them

Cheers for the comments!

That really helped the wires, not they're much more in line with the "condition" of the rest of the figure. The duel is just phenomenal.
