As I suspected, they look excellent. Well done bud, I hope you at least enjoyed some of it, I know you blasted through them quick.

You were right Knightley, when they are all together the army has a nice cohesive look to it. Looking forward to the Nids.

@Zerg - Thanks dude, I know you were expecting a little more and I hope to be able to provide that for you if/when I come back to the chaos models

@ingtaer - Commissions.... Yes and No, I don't advertise I do it, however, I've had friends on Dakka approach me in the past who were looking for a couple of models here or there. You looking at getting something done?

@Cam - Yeah, in a way, this was a rather interesting test where I had to restrict the number of colours used, as well as no progress past the base/wash stage, trust me it was at time very difficult.

@York - Thanks buddy, appreciate that

Update: I'd been doing mould lining over the past week as well as assembly, I didn't take pics however onto the priming stage

What the heck did you dissect in class? I remember frogs! Not really scary spiky things with huge teef.

Looking forward to this, but surely Knightly you must be getting withdrawal symptoms by now? I mean they are primer Grey, but......

I love the "deconstructed" aspect of the bugs. Looks like a MOMA display of some sort.

@York - The NZ science classes must have been terrible, I never got to cut anything up so this is my new childhood eh?

@Cam - Getting twitchy thats for sure, I re-found my last knight Cerastus Castigator, so that will most likely be on the cards next.

@Graven - All inspired by you buddy, I was tempted to flick it back, but hey its not the Grey Knights so it doesn't get the blog name!

@Gits - "And here we have the Genus, Lictor stabicus - DeathLeaper strain, very nasty, but oh so nice to cut up"

Update: On to the white skin, started with an off white, Ulthuian White I think (excuse the spelling) After that dried I hit it with a top down white.

Update: Not sure if I should have done this now or later, but I applied reikland flesh shade 50/50 Lamiem medium over all the skin to tint it to the colour of the army. However I suspect this was a fools errand should I make mistakes with the Black.

Nice so far. As for your concern about messing it up with the black, if you did highlights on the skin first you might have messed up the black instead, so I think it's six in one hand, half a dozen in the other.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):

@Zerg - Fair point, I do suspect that if I went white on black, black would cover it much easier than the reverse (multiple white coats to fix a black mistake) time till tell

Update: Started working on Deathleaper, other base colours applied

It is looking good Knightley. Since you are painting then putting them back together would you be Resecting them rather than Dissecting?

Looking forward to the rest!

@York - This is true, I would prefer playing god, but you know, Resecting works as well

Feathering? Have not heard that term before can you enlghten me Knightley?

Made in nz
Strategizing Grey Knight Chapter Master

Auckland New Zealand

@Graven - Or do you mean Kniddly Knasty

@York - I may have the wrong term, however it was told to me like this:
- dark base
- lighter cover on the inside of the dark base, leaving the dark base visable
- even lighter cover on the second layer leaving all three previous layers visable

From what I believe (Again could be the wrong term) its whats used for the chitin armour colours on Tyranids (see old one eye below on his plates)

Update: Deathleaper done, I really need to refine the purple armour colour, its not quite right in my eyes.

@Cam - Thanks man, I can't claim the scheme is my own, it was developed by my brother, and he wanted something simple and quick to do, I'm glad he chose it like this.

@York - Fair point, when I think of layering, its applying the same colour paint back over a shaded base colour, sometimes in two thin coats (as per our painting overlord Duncan Rhodes)

@Graven - Nidlicious

Update: Swarmy had some black, red and tan applied

Swarmy's coming along great! Looking forward to seeing him all put together. Nids are an army I've always thought would be fun to paint and model, but as I say very often I need another army like a hole in my head.

@Zerg - They can be a ton of fun, I'm really enjoying painting these guys, although I do miss the hard lines of marines.

Update: found the legs and got them in line, then started on the feathering/layering

@Graven - I'm trying to recreate old one eye's scheme and I'm not sure I'm quite nailing it just yet.

@Cam - Thank you!
