Get back on topic ya crazy Gits!

We need to move back to our evaluation of Gitsplitta's latest works (namely that nice Sternguard he is in the process of modelling).

Actually I built one of my sternguard this afternoon (heavy flamer guy). I might get some paint on GS's tonight if I'm lucky. Will post pics if someone bumps me.

Was trying to get more wood cut and split before the rain comes tomorrow but my back gave out. 3 days of chainsawing in a row were just a bit toooo much. Splitter's busted anyway... off to the repair shop!

When you're chainsawing wood - do you actually pretend you're weilding a mighty chainsword and decapitating your foes? (I would if I had one - have to make do with a humble axe for my head - er - I mean log splitting)

If you used a chainsaw with any regularity... you would instantly realize how a) impossible and b) suicidal a chainsword would be. Imagine the 1 in 6 gets hot roll for the plasma gun changing to a 6 in 6 roll.... that's a chainsword.

Does your chainsaw explode every time you use it?

Gitsplitta wrote:You've obviously never used a chainsaw with any regularity...

Maybe a dozen times in my life, not very often but I didn't have anything explode.

Maybe a chainsword wouldn't be anything like a chain saw we use today. I've never used any super fancy surgical saw but there are saws that can cut through just about anything, the thing that always bothered me about the 40k chainsword was that I always that it'd be easier to maintain a powersword then it would a chainsword. Why wouldn't everyone use power swords? I understand that they are special but I think for marines that should be standard equipment. Obviously not for rules purposes but for fluff purposes. They are the Emperor's ultimate warriors, they can't spare 1000 power swords per chapter? Then again the 40k universe is in a bit of an economical depression, lol.

Chainsword, the true power blade. Using it as an actuall weapon, well I guess if an overwhelming insect race was attempting to devour my house then I would probally think it a good idea. The backbite that would most likely decapitate me would be a better death than insect digestion.

Gits Im with ya, long live the fighters of the wood in a battle that happens every year.

People remove limbs from themselves & die every year from improper use of chain saws. Takes two hands and a concerted will to keep one under control, and that's just exerting downward pressure on a stationary object like a log. A whirling 3' long chainsaw wielded during battle where it could buck, skitter, jam the suddenly release or be deflected would be as deadly to the wielder as to the opponent. The person wielding it would be rendered legless or at the least crippled within 30 seconds... perhaps less.

Well, a number of things got in the way of painting... but I will show the sternguard build. I'm going to lay odds that most people won't like this one... I'll also lay odds that I'm not going to change it as I quite like it! Though I might add a supporting chain from near the barrel of the gun to the marine's body.

Certainly looks as if he is straining to hold the flamer upright.

That flamer is large, but then again it is a heavy flamer, so its reasonable.

Heavy flamers for the win. Dont change the model it is great the way it is, but i do beleive the chain would add an aspect of weight to the weapon and improve the overall appeal of the model.

The heavy flamer is nice, I like the idea that the arm is beefed up to support the weight of it.

I did a similar conversion a while back, I cut the arm away before the elbow, where it comes out of the sleeve or whatever it would be called, the added a cut down marine arm.

I could see how this wouldnt work for an RT model as their arms are quite skinny, so I like the idea that you are using the top of the arm as a template whith which to build up a GS shoulderpad.

IF and only if you were considering changing the pose you could use the RT left arm which holds the bolter and position it on the stem which sticks oout above the heavy flamer nozzle.

The chain would give also be a good idea, and give him some stability or I fear that withou a suspensor unit even he would struggle to lug that thing around, I imagine him letting the enemy run towards him and at the last moment scream some expletives as he waves the Heavy flamer (one handed) from side to side incinerating everything near him and doing something cool with his other arm

Great job Gits

PS, in ther UK I believe hat when we complete our census, a you need 10,000 people to register as being "something" before it is classed as a religion, otherwise it would be considered a cult., so get 10,000 to people to say that they are acolytes of the Splitta, the Lord of Madness and you can be a high priest of your own religion!!

If I am wrong abot the 10,000 thingy please feel free to correct me (UK only)

Thanks Miss Dee, I had forgotten... I'll try to remember tonight (heading off to work soon). If you don't see anything in say... 10 hours, feel free to remind me again.

I'm glad folks like the pose. Even I admit that it looks odd, but with such a massive weapon (it's a terminator heavy flamer), I felt that even a marine would struggle a bit and need specially modified armor to accommodate. I'll build some kind of reinforcement into the armor, either a chain or hydraulic support or something. I think having the other arm hanging straight down as if carrying a heavy fuel canister helps with the illusion of weight as well.

I toyed with a couple of other options for creating the heavy flamer... but this had such a good feel to it that it was hard to pass up on. Love to pose of those FW legs too. No more hunched over beakie! Walkin' tall... dealin' flamey death as he goes.

In the U.S., all you have to be is a nutter & you can register yourself as your own religion.

Yeah, I think they're the "Iron Armor" legs... I just liked the poses and for my sternguard having older pieces of armor here or there is perfectly legit.

I could strip one of the flame cannons off of a land raider and have him tote that around.... hmmmm.... food for thought there.

To answer a point dantay brought up earlier. The shoulder pad on the flamer arm is actually very close to the correct size for a beakie shoulder pad. I filed it down from the "inner pad" that the normal terminator pad would have gone over so that their profiles matched. I might take a little GS and extend is slightly down the arm as I think it could be a mm longer or so, but I suspect once I get everything painted and you can see the distinction between the arm holding the gun and the gun, it won't matter quite as much.
