Is it a good idea to start selling our models, or do you think 40k will be fine? I really like 7th edition.

Or you could still play 7th and not play Age of 40K? I don't get this mentality at all. Just play what makes you happy. No one would be forcing you to move on to the next edition...

Yes.

They will do an AOS buy selling you as many books as they can and then months later they will make a new edition similar to AOS.

What? You know all the rules were released for free for AOS? Which is the exact opposite of what you're describing

I think he was referring to the End Times series. Hundreds of dollars to buy them all then the game you're playing is unrecognisable a matter of months later.

Nope, he's describing what is happening now (and what happened with WHFB End Times). Churn out loads of expensive books at a rate of knots (ET should have been done over years, not months) then in one sweep make them all invalid in an official capacity with AoS.

It all depends on whether AOS is making money. If it's not GW will rethink there strategies going forward.

They do things years in advance.

Chances are they have 40kAOS planned out and ready sitting in storage for a date already decided upon. They just got to go through the stuff they have already planned and got ready first.

Yup.

Buddy Bear on Warseer pieced it together better than I could-

Age of Sigmar is something which GW's been working on since 2012, apparently. So if they're planning to AOS 40k, then the odds are that those plans are well along at this point, with a 40k End Times already well on its way (Just look at the latest releases. You can't tell me GW hasn't already been dropping massive hints about a 40k End Times scenario), new models already designed and maybe even made, and so on. They probably couldn't reverse those plans even if they wanted to, with the next batch of codex books likely being the last ones we'll see.

He's then asked why he believes this-

The 7th edition rulebook allows "Come the Apocalypse" allies, whereas previously you couldn't ally together, so the apocalypse has arrived, making previously unthinkable alliances possible. The recent codex releases have all been harping on how these are the End Times. The most striking example, though, is Codex: Harlequins, where the Laughing God apparently has a plan to get Slaanesh to expend all its power in saving the Eldar race. People thought it meant GW was going to kill off Slaanesh at first, but I didn't think this would lead to Slaanesh's destruction as that idea would be absurd. There's no way GW would ever remove Slaanesh as one of the four Chaos gods...

...and then they removed Slaanesh as one of the four Chaos gods in Age of Sigmar.

That right there is the strongest in-story indicator to me that 40k is already down the path of being AOSed, because that is an incredibly specific story crumb leading to a situation reflecting a very specific situation which played out in Age of Sigmar as well, the removal of Slaanesh from the setting. They reset the clock on the Black Crusade just like they did with Storm of Chaos, and now they look set to have Abaddon play the role of Archaon in a 40k End Times scenario.

Food for thought.

Well, to be fair, if you play in a GW store, they'll certainly tell you which editions you can play.

And if your opponents move over or quit, that'll put a damper on playing 7th, much the way many groups find it hard to maintain 8E Fantasy play, particularly without store support.

Spoiler:

Finally people are accepting their existence. Momstartes are the key to make sense of all things both here and in 40k.

When the momstartes come, it is the first signal of the end times. You are the second prophet of the movement. My job of bringing them into light has been finished, and now your prophecy of the end times has come forth. Enlightenment is nearly here.

I don't see it happening, 40k is GW's bread and butter. It makes no sense to shake up your cash cow for no reason, especially after a few years of shaky profit. As much as I like Fantasy it was dying on it's arse and GW couldn't sit back and bleed anymore. This simply isn't the case with 40k.

I believe it will happen, and I wouldn't be surprised if we start getting 40k End Times books by around 2016 Autumn. Two full years after Fantasy End Times, to be precise.

It wouldn't be strange if the new game is also somehow retro-compatible with AoS, similar to Warmachine/Hordes.

That's what everybody keeps saying, but we really don't know if it was truly the case. It's true Fantasy had its golden age more than 10 years ago and had been in decline since its 7th edition, but perhaps it was not failing that hard. Perhaps, as GW's latest financial report states, they feel their traditional cash co... errr games had stagnated to the point they wouldn't be profitable in the long run, and they're indeed aiming to revamp their entire product line.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.

Its quite a valid fear. First your group will have players that want to play the new game, and people wanting to play only the old edition. THEN you will have sub groups that want to modify age of 40k because the base sucks, and those who don't want to. You ALSO have the people playing seventh that then say "well if we aren't playing the new game then why not play ( insert their favorite edition) and that group is then splintered farther.

The result is you get 2+ groups of guys who can never get a game because they are the only ones to show up for their chosen edition and only those dirty other edition swine are there to play.

That is how games and stores fall apart. Our regular fantasy group went from 10+ on Mon and Thurs to exactly zero bothering anymore due to fractioned play. And our stores revenue is suffering too. If 40k tanks, magic alone won't support it.

I really hope not, like really.

Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

It depends, will 40K get nicer models like AoS?

Then yes, I don't care how the battle system gets mulched if it means I can have updated models for SoB, Inq, AM, etc...

I'll take my nice models and go play 7th again.

I hope so. We'll I hope they hit the reset button, game withers until some new blood who actually cares about game balance picks up the torch and writes some good, non-convoluted rules that don't power creep every 10-21 days.
