Mordor vs rohan. Thought i got into good spot when got eomer goingnd royal guard solo charge. Plan was to swamp 'em, transfix eomer out of doing damage and crush 'em. Just one problem. Either i lost combat even when i have 3 vs 1 on my charges or i can't roll 5+ to wound. At worst i failed 6 dices on 5+ needing 1 to kill eowyn but no. 14 attacks and still alive. Morgul knight getting 4 attacks needing 4+ to kill and no.

Eventually my numbers got too thin and nazgul ran out of will blunting my attack and game over man!

I've been playing some Warlords of Erehwon recently. I was a little skeptical of it at first since it seemed on the surface to be Gates of Antares ported over to Fantasy, but it's turned out to be a fun little Warband fantasy game.

Best part is the Pins systems, which means little group of weedy goblins might not look like much a threat, but they can throw out enough pins to make it difficult for your big uber-unit to activate and get across the table.

I've been playing with Orcs and Goblins against Dwarfs, and my lessons so far have been:

-Chariots either do amazing stuff or blow up at the slightest touch from an enemy unit (for me, it's been more colossal failures then success)
-It's super important to keep a unit or two in reserves to rally friendly units that are routing, rather than having them run off the table
-Res 9 Dwarfs are absolute tanks. Better to pin them first then charge in.
-Retained Run orders can be all the difference in getting your cavalry to charge first, rather than be charged.

I believe this is technically the first true win my Ork kill team. It was a 125pt game of Bad Moons vs. Ultramarines in the Shifting Priorities mission in the Elites book. I think the win largely came from some cold dice on the part of the Ultramarine Suppressors failing to tie me down early combined with a fairly good initial deployment on my part. Additionally several of my gambits paid off much better than I expected. Also my Flash Git Kaptin finally made the points I put into him and his support work.

Spoiler:

Above is the MVP which mostly came from me goofing off a little bit as I had an excess of CPs so I decided to use the Tactic shoot twice in Overwatch with his Rokkit Launcha. Becuase my Orks are starting to get a reputation for being surgical in Overwatch I managed to hit nuking a tactical marine and forcing my opponent to pull more resources to short up that side more than he would have liked allowing the other flank to get stuck in.

New blog post is up, with Muskets & Tomahawks played on what I'll generously call an "old school" play mat.

A group of Rangers and their Native American allies were waiting in a settlement for a reinforcing group of Regulars, when they were set upon by a horde of enemy Natives.

What resulted was a running battle as the defenders retreated through the village. The British showed up just as the last building went up in flames.

I got into a bit of a range war with my Avenging Eagles chapter space marines vs. Space Wolves and Admech (Stygies VIII) in a 1000-ish point game. It was a lot of fun and shooting pea shooters kind of way. Ultimately ended in a tie. I used Rapid Assault and Whirlwind of Fury. Rapid Assault was kinda of a waste used once all game while Whirlwind of Fury allowed the Eagles to go toe to toe with the Space Wolves and Tech Priest. Whirlwind also made short work of any Skitarii my Reivers fought in CQC.

Spoiler:

I played my Librarian aggressively infiltrating him on top of the Bastion at the center of the table where he managed to face tank the Space Wolf/Admech army for 3 rounds before opening a psy-gate and getting out of there. Before then he did manage to kill the Space Wolf lord who I am sure was infuriated by Tenebrous Curse. In turn, the Long Fangs took control of that bastion and my Intercessors and Eliminators barely shifted them. My Eliminators failing to connect at all all game.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

The tricky thing with this table is that everything was wide open making movement tough doubly so with it meaning giving up Rapid Fire on my Bolt Rifles. Also as fun as it was for Brother Librarian Bastion to soak nearly 3 rounds of shooting from almost the entirely of the opposing army, that probably slowed them from spreading out which in turn allowed them to fall back and engage my Reviers once they had to fall from the skies. Speaking of which, fighting Space Wolves in melee was no easy feat. This game also managed to generate a Lone Wolf marine which I will say was very flavorful if annoying in that Reiver already had a tough go a power armor so fighting one made the fight a long slog.

1500 point game of S2D vs. Nurgle Maggotkin I think. Was an okay game. Both of us are still learning the game, but I am a casual-ish player and he was a tournament style player. So I generally was more interesting getting on with the game and keeping it moving where he was very careful in what he was doing. So the game took about 3 hours to get to round 4, I think. Unfortunately, I had to concede since I had go home. It wasn't looking good for me anyway, but it probably would have been at least another hour to actually finish. My opponent was nice, but the general pace felt like it was in slow motion to me since I generally don't worry too much about my actions. Nothing wrong in his approach, just not typically how I bother to play. I did appreciate the level of threat he thought my army might posse though. Kinda cute in a way since I don't think it was particularly good and I am a terrible player. Still nice to have others think your army is dangerous though.

If you are talking about the ones in one my photos, I didn't have anything to do with painting them. I believe the store owner painted them. He is a fan of Age of Sigmar which is part of the reason I gave it a try. I wasn't even completely sure if they were Age of Sigmar.

So the SJGA had a sudden change in location for our club's monthly meeting, which meant that the person who was planning to run a game couldn't make it.

Luckily I had thrown some stuff in the back of the car to run a game for a couple people, and someone else did as well, so I got a chance to demo FiveCore Company Command.

It was partially an excuse to get some use out of my old Flames of War minis, but it turned out to be an alright game. I didn't want to complicate things, so it was a straightup brawl until one side's moral crumbled.

At first it seemed like the Germans were going to get flattened by the British, but a dicey attack by the Germans through the river saw the British right flank crumble. After that, the British didn't have enough men to both keep the Germans in front of them pinned while fighting off the Jerries' flank attack.

A 2000 point game of Primaris vs. Tyranids. This was a historical 40k battle that occurred during the Devastation of Baal. The story so far was that new utilized Primaris space marines of what would be the Avenging Eagles had descended from the skies and had already been given their name from the beleaguered Blood Angel survivors they first met after planetfall and clearing creating a bastion from the swarms of Tyranids. Having had some minor successes in the fight against these xenos and gathering value intelligence from various kill team missions, the Avenging Eagles launched a bold raid weakest point of a bug biomass collection point guarded by some of the largest land based organisms the Hivemind had devised. The space marines objective was as clear as it was simple. Cause as much destruction and death to Tyranids and the biomass they had staged to allow all the Imperial forces some much need respite and the Hivemind would be forced to reclaim this sector or lose far too much precious biomass. The Tyranids guardians had to destroy the marine raiders before they could interrupt or even destroy a vast amount of biomass destined for the fleet.

I haven't read the Devastation of Baal and I am not super familiar with how Tyranids transport biomass off planet. I believe it is feeder tentacles or something. It wasn't incredibly important for the game. I just wanted my chapter have some of its lore determined via games. Plus, I knew the Tyranid player had the Psychic Awakening book which I thought might have had a cool mission we could use. It turns out it only has the one which really didn't work for the game we wanted to play so we just played kill each other without any further defined ways to score points. It turns out neither of us really cared about the winning or losing of this game but just wanted to play our armies and see what happened.

In the end, the Ultima Crusaders that would be the Avenging Eagles practically tabled the Tyranids in turn 5. They still had a Lictor going into round 6, but finally conceded there. I do think the Tyranid player played a better game. I just think my army just had better stats/power level that allowed me to win after several target prioritization mistakes. I didn't focus fire on a single target to bring it down nearly all game except with my repulsors which basically fired all guns at single targets unless some of those guns were out of range. I think a lot weakness came from the Forgeworld models that made up a large chunk of my opponent's points. As cool as they looked, they were far too many points for what he got work with. All game his bugs relied on Toughness which forced many of my weapons to wound on 5s. The problem was my Hellblasters, which I didn't even think would be that useful, tore right through that Toughness and then completely removed any non-Invulnerable save. And my Infiltrators could ignore with any sixes they rolled.

I went with Bolter Fusiliers and Whirlwind of Fury for my chapter tactics. The Nid player was also using the new adaptive evolution from PA. I believe one of them was 4+ Invul from Overwatch shots. I can't remember what the other one was they had another one. Both of my chapter tactics were used quite a bit this game. I like both of them and I think I will continue to use them. Whirlwind of Fury is my favorite of the two since it tends to make Primaris something even Lictors don't want to charge in groups of one or two since the sheer amount of attacks can beat them into pulp. The surprise MVPs were my Hellblasters who nearly got wiped out by genestealers only to have them fluff their attacks. The plasma weapons made short work of carnifexs, distraction or otherwise. The tanks did okay. I didn't really use them very well and the big guns failed to hit and wound more than average. The nid's MVP was probably that winged thing in the above photo. It kinda got ignored after it was wobbly modeled/ I had bigger, scary bugs trying to tear my marines to pieces. If did managed to mortally wound Bother Bastion my Librarian.

Notable things of this game. Round 2-3 my Auto Bolt Rifle Inccessors were joking that they had stuck a nerve with the bugs with that massive, I want to say Hierodule, ran clear across the table and behind them. I know marines 'Shall Know No Fea' but they felt just a little be right there. The other notable thing is my Chapter Master unlocked the ability to spend CP to be one now. He managed to 360 no scope a Dimachaeron dead. He really just managed to land the killing shot, but the other story is cooler. In any event, I now feel like he has earned the ability to truely be a Chapter Master if I want to spend the CP. The last thing is my Phobos Lt. is turning out to be a little bit melee reckless. He saw and opportunity to finish of the last of the genestealers and instead of just shooting it, he charged and risked missing and getting attacked back. Fortunately, bringing a knife to a rending claw fight worked out for Brother Dundee.

The game was fun, but I think I am going to handicap my space marines if I play these Tyranids again as it was obvious that my army just had better stats. I figure I could drop about 200 points and it would be a more interesting fight.

I played my first game of Saga's Version 2!

It was nice getting the Normans back out on the table. We played the scenario in the main rulebook, Clash of Warlords. My opponent took Ragnar Lothbrok, who's got some crazy rules (free activations, can take a Fatigue point to cancel two wounds) and even my buffed knights couldn't take him down. I did manage to get most of his warband, however, so it was a solid victory for the Normans.

This picture is basically how the whole game versus the Imperial Guard felt. I just didn't have the guns or the numbers to make much of a dent in them. Despite what is seen above, my Helix Adept did survive all that but was too swamped with bodies to bring anybody back. I tried rescuing him with Reivers but they had less than stellar attacks even after an Honor the Chapter stratagem.

Spoiler:

The Spoiler is my entire army at deployment. I went with an all infantry mostly so I didn't have to carry an additional case since Friday parking can be tough. I don't have any pictures of the guard mostly due to little of it being painted. It was a lot of tanks, mortars and guardsmen. Fortunately, they dialed back to more of a casual game as I am sure his competitive list would have nuked me but good. This was my first ITC style mission. It was okay. Can't say I am a fan all the extras involved in the mission nor how some of the terrain works. However, they don't bother me too much as I am still mostly about just removing as many models from my opponent's army far more than actually caring about winning the game. According to my opponent, this was a close game of something like 11 to 12 with me losing. It didn't really feel like as I was basically tabled round 5-ish. I was down to my Captain, an Intercessor Sergeant and an Assault Hellblaster Sergeant at the beginning of my opponent's next turn and rather than spend dice in the very unlikely chance they all didn't die just had him add any points as if he had killed them.

The game was fun though. I did the best with what I had which largely wasn't enough to deal with all that armor. The guard also spread out really fast limiting my deep strike options with my Reivers. They did a little better with my Sergeant with combat knife making it to following turn even after being swarmed to 20 guardsmen. Too bad I forgot to take a picture of that is was kinda neat to see a single Primaris standing head and shoulders over a sea of guardsmen as the swarmed around him.

2 matches of Kill Team. My Sisters of Perpetual Annoyance vs. the Nids of a friend. We tried two of the collected narrative missions in the KT Annual. More pics and batrep spoilered.

Spoiler:
First mission was "Light the beacon". I had to place three objectives in my deployment zone and could light them on a 4+ at the beginning of my movement phase. Nids mission was to seize the beacons. I would get 3 VP for every lit beacon at the end of the game, he would get 2 for every extinguished beacon. And every kill was one additional VP.

As seen on the overview picture I deployed three sisters on the walkway to guard beacon 3, the Crusader (who failed to light the damn beacon in three turns) and another battle sister looked after beacon 2 and the right flank was in the hands of zealots with a sister repentia and Pious Vorne. The last one would make a lasting impression on my opponent's right flank.

My right flank

His right flank

He tried to swarm the sisters on the walkway, but missed some charges and all that happened was a slapfest between my two sisters and two of the hormagaunts, that resolved itself in round 5.

After seeing, that he won't be able to light the beacon, my crusader decided to kill some bugs. He did this very efficiently, because if you are two inches away from the foe, why should you roll higher than two inches for the charge

The repentia was my only casualty in this game and she fell against this tyranid warrior in this fight. After that Pious Vorne cleaned house, killed those three nids and then went after the genestealer leader who wisely wanted to flee, but got burnt to a crisp in the last round.

It was a overwhelming victory, after round 6 he had two models left, I had lit all the beacons and imperial reinforcements could now safely land.

Game 2 I didn't take much pictures. We played "Chosen by fate". We rolled off and I played the attacker so a D10 decided, what my victory condition would be. If I wanted I could roll again each turn or my opponent once per game for three CP, if I decided not to roll. Victory condition for me was, that my leader wouldn't die. So of course I put her on the building in nearly plain view, because she is a god-emperor-damn battle sister!

Suffice to say, she got shot at a lot by tyranid warriors and fell in round 4. But battle continued to round 5 and my new objective rolled was "kill more enemy units" which was more or less achieved, especially since my repentia redeemed herself in the second game, killing both tyranid warriors. The picture shows the second one, before he got eviscerated

Luckily, the game ended there and didn't go to round six. Because we threw the dice for one and with his tactic my friend would have gotten me the objective to kill his whole team. That would have been possible in that round, but probably unlikely.

Thanks for the run down on your two games. I too play against a lot of Tyranids in Kill Team. Literally every regular player in the group has Tyranid kill team, although; we all play a different hivefleets (I play Jormungandr but only ran them a couple times). Funny enough that just happened, we never agreed to pick a hivefleet.

I will agree that Tyranids in Kill Team are no joke especially Warriors and Lictors. I can easily see SoB struggling since a lot of their special/heavy weapons force them into charge range.

Finally, I want to say I like your terrain. Particularly the Stormvault bit.

Back to Kill Team with a 200 points Commanders Bad Moons vs. Deathwatch game. Added a special rule for the Altar of Skulls that any unit that starts within 1" of it can choose to gain the Mark of Khorne (re-roll failed charge rolls). I also wanted to have a model standing atop it so I could have some Chaos Orks chanting, "Blood for the Blood god. Skulls for the Skull Throne". So, mt Kommando (you probably can't see him because he is camouflaged, but trust me he is there /s) Nob volunteered. I mostly just wanted to make use of this piece of terrain as I think it looks really awesome and don't even play the faction AoS that can make use of it.

A little round of Mordheim, scenario was "Breakthrough" I played Averlander mercenaries, my friend the skaven. Had him on the ropes after killing 6 models, but he didn't fail the rout test and nearly escaped with two rats and killed of 3 of my men. In the end I prevailed, because he failed the second rout test. That is the only battle pic (the pikeman got viciously slaughtered, but survived the aftergame). The spoilered ones are deployment.

I got to play a game of Age of Fantasy, One Page Rules version of Age of Sigmar, with Mrs. Da Boss yesterday. Lots of fun, the system is good and simple while still having enough to it to give a different feel to the factions (in this case, Dwarves and Goblins!)

Age of Fantasy was a lot of fun. Very quick to play and easy to teach. My wife hammered me both times, mostly due to me not clicking into the alternating activation idea and making some moves in a stupid order so that she was able to clean out my heavy hitting units with missile fire. But we had some dramatic moments with my double sized unit of Goblin Archers who held out heroically in both games and killed far more than their worth in stunties! The goblins will rise again!

Spoiler:

My goblins started by moving forward to skulk behind the hut, and the spiders scurried forward to lurk behind the forests, ready to spring out on Turn 2.

Unimpressed, the dwarves let rip with their organ gun and pasted the goblin boss as he reached the base of the watchtower. Oops. The other Goblins decided to hide behind the comfortingly solid hut.

The Marksmen were less successful in gunning down the spiders, and promptly got eaten next turn.

Unfortunately, the Organ Gun put paid to the spiders soon after (should have moved aggressively forward with my spearmen to try and bait it into shooting early!). The Spearmen managed to kill the Dwarven Leader before getting obliterated by the organ gun, but the heroic and plucky Goblin Archers scaled the tower and began to rain death on the advancing stunties!

The dwarves clambered up the tower and an epic battle ensued, with the Archers slowly fighting off the warriors, only to be gunned down by the Organ Gun when there was only one left!

The second game we changed the organ gun out for some miners and the spider riders out for some squig hoppers. The marksmen proved highly effective, killing enough Hoppers turn one to cause them to Waver, and then finishing them off the next turn. My Spearmen did a little better, but a combination of the Dwarf Lord and the Warriors finished them off. My Lord got mugged by the miners, and then tried to take out the Dwarf Lord the next turn but got cut down. Then my Archers led the enemy on a merry chase, shooting miners down until they all died, before being caught at bay by the advancing dwarf warriors and cut down to a Goblin.

]

Very happy to get a game in, been working for ages to get a dark ages terrain set finished, and very pleased to get to try it out with my painted minis. Extra bonus is my wife found Age of Fantasy pretty fun, and suggested playing again next weekend.
