I see your city as somewhere that has been abandoned for some time as the fighting rolls around it. Almost an oasis in the war - the people have fled, the odd shell has missed its target and blown a hole in something.
Now the tides of war have shifted, and the overgrown, rusted streets once again reverberate to the sounds of life as soldiers scrabble through cover and tanks rumble through the streets.
So, I would be all for some vines.

But vines would really only be appropriate if it's a tropical/ invasive species area... only big potential problem I see there. But yes, the statue is done quite nicely as is, so whatever you pick might work.

I think people are referring more to vines like Ivy rather than any tropical deathworld creeping vines.

A quick 'how to' or rather 'Do you' question Mike. When you construct a tower using the CoD pieces do you add in a floor to each level and if so, how?
I ask because I'm making a towered piece atm but when all of the pieces are put together the hole is too small to fit a flooring tile in.

I use movement trays as flooring, as well as the standard floor in the COD kit. Given your building it will make more sense to use GW movement trays and cut them to the proper size. The COD flooring is very thick and beveled, thus making a multi-teir building harder to put together. Build one level/floor wall section at a time and top each floor/level with the cut to fit movement tray. Since it is thinner you will have no problem fitting each floor/level together. I would how ever test fit each floor/level before gluing, use some blue tact to keep each piece together. You can see it a little bit in this picture
The wall sections were assembled and a cut to fit tray was glued on top. You of course would cut yours smaller to fit inside the lip of each wall. You could always simply cut it to fit the top of the wall leaving no over hang. Leaving no over hang and cutting it flush would also make the structure more level and easier to build. The only issue is I believe it would leave a pretty nasty gap. Your choice
Most of all remember that any mistakes you make can be fixed very easily with debris , banners, ivy, and just over all battle damage Hope this helps you out.

Cool thanks Mike. The edges to those movement trays would make pretty decent curb stones don't you think? Also are they Hirst arts pieces you have used for the slurry pool? I remember seeing the original build but cannot for the life of me remember the page to check it out. Hmm perhaps a contents would be a good addition to the first page,

I choose the movement trays as bases for that simple fact The edges to those movement trays would make pretty decent curb stones don't you think?
I though man those look like city blocks!
Also I don't think I want to do a table of content So you could always just ask where I got it

Get some stiff card, cut to size, coat with PVA, add fine sand, allow to dry, paint black, drybrush grey, paint lines and markings in your choice of colours
You could add sidewalks using thicker sections of card.

Yes, my suggestion would work much better using thin sections of wood rather than card - less likely to be damaged/curl/etc

For home made roads, I used play-do, let it dry, and painted it. Had nice texture, but took a while for it to dry. It was pretty easy to shape and smooth (with a board sprayed with cooking oil).

I know, if you look on the top of the pillars when I got them they had no top. I noticed that 28mm non slot bases fit perfect. Enjoy and post some pics when you get a chance.

Hey Mike you've been busy..... 5 pages since I've last looked in. Ace Some of my comments may be a little late....
On the Plaza it seems the second story on the fountain was a contentious issue....ok fair enough. I still think it needs something to link the columns together like this for example
Perhaps if you made the hole in the middle bigger the roof would be less dominating.
Tanks. Nice camo scheme.
Pringle storage tank is brilliant......I might just have to get the same conversion kit.....mmmmm Texas BBQ
The sky Shield....what is going on with the doors underneath? I sound like a with the way I phrased that question. What I meant to say was where is that door leading?
Rail Yard picture is cool. Are you going to have a working railway on your board?
Canal System - this blog is inspiring http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/316894.page ah I went further down to find you've already found it lol.
Your "farting" Guardsman is really cool. I love that camo scheme (what colours have you used?)...really looks like he is covered in dust from city fighting.
Space Marine statue looks really good
For making roads would it be cheaper to buy thick plasticard and a scribing tool. As suggested in the forge world modelling book when they built the air base.
The moss vines look good...I think you should use them sparingly though. It makes a nice addition rather than a focal point.
Phew and I think I am up to date now
Peter
