I like it, but I'd put some purity seals (the big vehicles ones ideally) on it, and a candle on the statues foot.

Have your thought of using actual hot wax? Might be hard to control in small amounts, but would look hella realistic. Other then that, maybe some greenstuff. Or maybe some really think paint.

Real wax eh? Perhaps a few test pieces are in order! Stay tuned
Thanks Paul , this should be fun

The major concern I have with real wax is it will be fragile. Maybe a varnish would make it hard enough to stay? Not sure, this is very much untested waters, so should be interesting.

Might have a hard time with scale issues using real wax, not sure how you'd get thin enough rivulets of wax to look like scale wax rivulets. Possibly a crude mould, but then the fargility would really come into play.
Maybe a reasonably viscous type of glue?

How about hot glue ala a hot glue gun? Or maybe nail polish?
And yes, I'm just posting any idea I can think of. Saves me from trying it later.

Hot glue gun into a mould might work, that stuff's a bit hardier than wax.
That thick paint used for painting '3d' symbols on fabrics. Multiple layers of pva glue. A mix of cold gravy and human blood.
Okay, maybe not that last. You don't want stray dogs licking your terrain.

If you let white glue partially dry off it becomes really thick and gloopy. You might have better luck with it then.
The problem with using hot glue is that it might damage your mould as it is (as the name suggests) rather hot when it comes out
One thing you could try is using a hot glue gun, create long strings of hot glue (the kind you get when you put a blob on a surface and pull the gun away quickly).
When these dry you can cut them up and superglue them onto your railings. Then you could try using them as a kind of scafold to pour white glue over.
If you have a soldering iron you could always use it to heat hot glue and then use a tooth pick to pull it out into the desired shapes before letting it cool and sticking it on?

This is just a test piece, hence the green color. Obviously the final product will be not green and the candle will be better molded around the melted wax. This is the hot glue mock up
As always please leave your comments and feedback as they are always appreciated

I think paint is going to make or break even more then normal on this one. Did the hot glue work then?

I agree with the Battle: LA rec, besides the lacking in character development (though that seemed to make it more real, as in the end, they're just marines doing what they know: fight until they are dead or go on to the next mission). And with the candles... I dunno, I'll have to wait and see. Looks like it might be a bit much for 3 measly candles, but at the same time I don't spend much time around the tall variety of candle.

hey mike , i just made some candles , out of green stuff and small nails , i made the base of the candle fatter than the top and just used green stuff , with a sculpting tool , to pick at it and make a drippy effect
http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/189841-.html
http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/189842-.html
http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/189844-.html
the effect is not as realistic as the one you want , but when p[ainted , i doubt you could notice the difference , at the moment it looks like your making the wax a seperate thing to the candle , i think attaching it to the candle itself , should help with the realism

The candles themselves are great, but the built up wax not so much I'm afraid, even allowing for a few more stubs dotted along it. It looks like one big lump was formed, rather than being made up of possibly years of melted candles. How did you do the drips on the candles, as that's what you want, just lots of it.
