Is this the super-secret-awesome-exciting one?

Update #31

Hail Survivors!

Special Guests don't get much more special than this! It is a profound honour to introduce to you our new optional buy:

The John Howe Special Guest box comes with 4 new Survivors created and designed by this legendary artist, including their miniatures and ID cards. Such unique characters necessitated us going one step beyond, so we've also created a couple of special equipment cards for this box: unique spells for both Cyrine and Hildir.

John Howe (born August 21, 1957) is a Canadian book illustrator, best known for his work based on J. R. R. Tolkien's worlds. Howe and noted Tolkien artist Alan Lee served as chief conceptual designers for Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, and Howe also did the illustration for the "Lord of the Rings" board game created by Reiner Knizia. Howe also re-illustrated the maps of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion in 1996–2003.
His work is however not limited to this, and includes images of myths such as the Anglo Saxon legend of Beowulf (he also illustrated Knizia's board game Beowulf: The Legend). Howe illustrated many other books, amongst which many belong to the fantasy genre (Robin Hobb's books for instance.) He also contributed to the film adaptation of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis. In 2005 a limited edition of George R. R. Martin's novel A Clash of Kings was released by Meisha Merlin, complete with numerous illustrations by Howe.
Howe also llustrated cards for the Magic: The Gathering collectible card game.

If you're interested in purchasing this optional buy, please just click the "Manage Your Pledge" button on the Black Plague Kickstarter page and in the pledge manager add the amount of the items you'd like to get. We'll sort out what your extra money is going towards after the campaign has closed and we've sent out our Pledge Manager.

To wrap it up, how about we check out the initial John Howe sketches for these Survivors?

I just posted a link to this in a response, did it get MOD deleted?

*Edit - Yes, this is the super-secret-awesome-exciting one....which I correctly guessed yesterday in a post on the last page.

If you aren't a LotR fan, you may not have ever heard of John Howe...but he and Alan Lee were the key concept designers for the films, and he has been illustrating Tolkiens books for decades...

Those are very John Howe designs

Slightly off topic - always loved the John Howe and Alan Lee banter during the interviews on the original LoTR special editions.

I really dig those characters! (Finally). I don't know that I am buying into this one, but those survivors are pretty cool, especially the old crone!

So if the guest boxes are going to retail later(well the whole thing is, but without the freebies or exclusives) what is the advantage to getting them now? Are the savings big enough to justify pledging for them now versus buying them at retail later?

From what I've seen the MSRP is higher at retail, but who doesn't get 10-20% off at retail? Miniaturemarket has the dice for cheaper than the kickstarter prices, also the add on artist boxes are about the same after discount. I think it's just that you get yours first, or all at once. Now it could be cheaper to wait and order enough for free shipping, but then you have to deal with stock issues.

Tbh, the few stores in the UK that seem to stock Zombicide, aren't usually offering more than 10% off.. if any at all.. so its not a terrible deal if you like the models.

Of course as plenty of people have noted, we are getting a lot of heroes already.. so I am generally very picky on which things I add on.. I think there are still two 'modern' Zombicide guest boxes I never have gotten around to picking up.

You're also guaranteed to get them, if you pick them up during the campaign. Where as afterwards, you'll have to deal with stock issues.

Personally, they're also generally cheaper through the campaign due to the £<>$ conversion than at retail in the UK.

They're 1 cent cheaper on Miniature Market, who normally has them all in stock. If you pledge during the campaign, you do get to help unlock stretch goals, but if you add on funds during the pledge manager, you don't get that advantage. Personally I wait until release to get them and just pick them up at my leisure as I dont feel the need to tie up funds 6+ months in advance for little to no gain.

Caveat - this does apply only to those in the US. International backers might see more benefit.

Primarily availability (you're first!) and a slightly cheaper price from retail, if you buy at MSRP.

I'll be waiting to get mine at Expo or GenCon following the release, most likely.

Maybe it's just me but the women look beefier than the orcs . It's probably due to the camera distance or something, but it makes the women look huge and orcs more like wrinkly old guys with odd ears.

I really like the woman with axe in the bottom picture, but I don't really care for the other figures from the Kopinski box sets.

I may have to bite the bullet and buy the set, just for the one figure.

@prankster - Good point about the £/$ exchange rate at the moment, makes sense to pledge now I think if it's something you definitely want.

Sure it's not just the bigger photo?

Remember though it's only really the Brian Nelson Orcs (and those that were then influenced by his style) that had the massive head/shoulders and 'bulldog from Looney-Toons'-style legs. A lot of other fantasy literature has them at a similar size to humans, albeit somewhat uglier.

I think she's just supposed to be massive. Like Brienne of Tarth. The character bio mentions she's the biggest and strongest in a family of lumberjacks. I have no problem with her being bigger than an orc. These aren't GW's silly ape orcs with massive heads, and that's a good thing IMO.

All the figures in that box look really good. I'm hoping they turn out as well in production.

Don't forget that those figures are the contents of two boxes, not one. The first 4 are designed by Karl, the last 4 by his brother.

I had a try at resizing the images based on the Drow sculpt, whose base I assume is the standard 25mm wide base the game pieces would have. Scales seem right to me, maybe within 5% size difference here or there.

I really like the two women with axes. Probably some of the better female warrior sculpts in a while.

Thanks Alpharius for the offer.

Noai is correct. It looks like the full core rules, but none of the quests.

Going through the book, I've figured out the layout of 7 of the tiles. I'm thinking about building a set of tiles so we can try out the ZBP rules.

I've seen better doors, but the prices are good if you don't already have any, and these probably look pretty good after painting:

I like the doors, I could use them for Advanced Heroquest too, but I don't need 27 of them!

I would much prefer a "15 doors for $10" option.

$1.50 apiece? Not too bad I suppose. What are there use in the game? Just a visual aid for something characters can interact with?

People have been asking for them since day 1 of the Kickstarter, so I was certainly expecting them,

They are nicer than the ones made for Zombicide and come in at a bettter price point.

Good variety too. They could have been lazy and just went with a single door sculpt

It's $.67 each. Is better deal!

Yep, visual aid. The door tokens are flat counters, so can be hard to see on the busy board when all them zombies are around. Plus, as ULM said, you can use the doors for various dungeon crawl boardgames.

Whoops, I was thinking $27 for 18. Thanks for the correction. I may wait to decide if I want the doors or not, as they aren't necessary.
