I'm hard pressed to identify a WW2 plane that looks anything like these, except maybe an ME 262. As I said in my previous post, they are based on a well-established 'look' for Ork flyers, which is based on Korean War era jets, only with more retro features. As a long-time Ork player, I am pretty happy with them. Okay, maybe they could have had much bigger rivets and more 'junk', but you can always add that. I think a lot of criticism of GW models these days ignores this - their kits are just the basis for doing what you want. Although in the case of the Stormtalon I'd be struggling to come up with anything that could fix such a bizarre design.

Not getting the SM flier although I may get the engines off eBay if they fit on the Stormraven and Storm Eagle.

I like the talon. Finally a flyer for my SM. Take that, BA/GK players!

It's spelled "cavalry." NOT "calvary."

The Ork fighters look really good. The only thing I don't like about them are the toothed air intakes.

Scythe looks great.

Talon, as stated before could be serviceable with engine position swap and assault cannon replacement. I'm not sure why aerodynamics comes into anybodies mind, couldn't these things be using a combination of anti-grav and jet engines like the land speeder?

Okay, someone explain the point of a flame thrower on a fast moving aircraft. Do it in a way that makes ANY sense. Seriously. Think about it.

Which one? Cause on an Ork plane it would make perfect sense.

the talon looks like it has lots convertability. the cockpit could be used for knight titans, something other to use than a sentinel cockpit. The engine are good and could be used for lots of stuff. but it sucks in general. too small, too many guns and in very odd places. Looks very orky. lootin time.

The ork and necron fliers are pretty damn good.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

If the flame thrower itself is pointing towards the rear of the aircraft and is under its fuselage why not?
It would basically be like those civil defense craft that drop water on forest fires, except the water is pure napalm and you light a sprak after it

I can see where your inital point was coming from though

HELL YEAH! I get 3 ork plane options which I will be excited to convert, *AND* a horribly goofy Space marine flyer which screams to be looted! If that had a beanie propeller on the top of it, it would make a fantastic ork Big Mek contraption! Add some grabby hands and some teeth and it would become an awesome ork mega deff kopta.

Actually, I really really like to space marine gunship.
The only thing that looks gakky on it are the weapons,
and that's probably easy to fix.
(and maybe lengthen the tail a bit, to fix the stubbiness,
that gw seems to love so much on space marines flyers... -.-)

Honestly, if you lengthened the tail and stuck some kind of turbine in there, it would pass for a helicopter tail- either that or stick the vtol style engines on the tail. If you removed the cockpit and stuck an old rhino hull piece (the rounded front armor or whatever) and plasticarded up the cheek guns like the missile launchers you could essentially give the stormtalon a landspeeder tempest style cockpit. Change the assault cannon to rest where the sensors are- maybe use a vindicator crane rig housing and dark angels ravenwing assault cannons- you'd have an A-10 looking turret.
Then, to detract from the front heacy/contribute to lift- take some drop pod turbines and stick them where the cheek guns are in the picture now. Make a plasticard housing and BAM! you have mini storm raven anti-grav looking doohickers.

You COULD make this thing look menacing- it would just take some serious conversion skill.

Oh how I wish my mspaint/photoshop skills were good enough to post a concept pic

Yes, but I don't think they actually pinned down the functional mechanics untill the 1990's. Bumblebees flew on mere theory alone! Realy what the little buggers were doing was defying sciences ability ( or probably need) to be measured. Stealth technology if you will.

But back on topic. I for one plan to use the land speeder Auto cannons from the raven wing kits, and change the landing gear around on the Stormfish/gold talon.

I can just use one of these GI Joe originals for the space marine one, right?

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.

It's on top and pointing forward. Still, even if it were pleased as you describe, the burning fuel (napalm/kerosine) would just br caught up in the tail wash and dispersed enough to not have any effect at all.

Nope, those weapons are too small.

Given the scale of 40k battles, having conventional aircraft on the field doesn't make any sense either.

I recall a story about a supersonic jet that fired it's main gun...then overtook the bullets and shot himself down.

After looking at an image or two of the Stormtalon with smaller assault cannons, I actually think it looks pretty cool. Not well balanced physically, but I like the look of it.
