Not much to report in p&m land. Landmines done, that's about it.
We are now into marking season so that's pretty much evenings gone for the next couple of weeks And have been at my folks' for the long weekend - though the bonus there is meat, beer, beach... Hard burden, that
Did get another great game of TWD with the boys
Usual survival supply run, trying out the new stuff. Lee, Clementine, Andrea, Amy plus gear (all chosen by them) vs 13 walkers. Andrea (killing machine) got bitten and died, and bizarrely Amy (useless terrified sister) saved the day! Such a strong narrative feel to it. Cracking game.
Started catching up with comics. Playing TWD has got me back to that, so upto about vol 12 (not met Negan yet), and all rebirth Super titles. Superman, Action Comics and Super Sons all outstanding, not really a Superman fan (I am the Bat) but loved it all. Highly recommend - works because it's touching and funny as well as, well, Super.
So what next?
Captain Cold and Heatwave?
Penguin Crew?
Arkham Knight and Nightwing?
Hawkman?
Lmk your thoughts!
Cheers graven

DJShadowcat wrote:I so need to get the Suicide Squad box put together and painted. so little time in the day.
So true. Katana is a nightmare, be warned (phenomenal in game though). Goat priest isn't great either to build either. And if you decided you don't need your grin twins (they're rubbish in game) I know a good conversion home for them... Diablo's a lovely model, dreadful in game. Slipknot is really useful, totally underestimated by everyone. Boomerang is superb, dirt cheap. WIllshot is monstrously good, wayyyyyyyyy too cheap. Harley is good, and if you want to play the Squad, you're generally better running her as a Joker boss rather than SS as your team (because heads go bang) and her Charismatic means you can still recruit 3 other squad members as Free Agents (Willshot, Boomerang, Slipknot is my preference). Croc's decent enough, though I just plain prefer the classic one, and Slipknot helps deal with roof rats. The Leto Joker is a nice model and pretty solid in game: he's not flashy, funnily enough, but really tough (other Jokers are pretty fragile) - his goons are pretty pricey in terms of $ though, so you'll want to flesh out with some basic clowns. I like Panda Guy, personally - stick a grapple gun on him and watch him terrorise the streets Eyeball's not bad, Goat priest is a bit meh. Or possibly mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Harley is, of course, good in the team too
So I'm in a little bit of marking hell. But tis the season, and I get paid for it. Anyway, wasn't going to go out gaming but wife shoved me out the door, bless her. As a result, had a great time Tuesday night teaching one of my mates, antarios BMG. He's a big CW fan, and has Arrow, Flash etc so asked for something along those lines. We played a 200 pt Skirmish game (20 cm deployment, bonus VPs for taking out the enemy boss and more than 50% of the other crew) - the basic game mode, in other words. I tried to keep it very fluffy, so he had Arrow (TV), Diggle and a Female Cop, whilst I ran Dirty cops - Lt. Branden (corrupt Swat boss), SWAT Alpha, Delta and Bravo, a male cop and Agent O'connell (cop with a taser) - in other words, they had failed this city! Objectives were Loot, Ammo and Safe boxes - all about the money.
It was a great game: antarios got to grips very quickly with the mechanics and really liked the street level skirmish style of play (which some people find off-putting, because they expect it to be more... super). He was surprised how much of a slog a melee brawl was, though didn't think it a negative. It was also about driving home the point that this is about holding objectives: despite the fact that he was doing me a lot more damage, I was racking up VP just by sitting stubbornly on high-value targets.
In the end, Arrow took out Branden with his bow and beat down a male cop, whilst Diggle and the female cop (!) managed to just take out Echo (melee SWAT with a door smasher) before he battered Diggle to death against a van. Game went 13/9 to him, and another player hooked; crucially, it was the narrative that won him over (quite right too). We were playing at our local club, and one of our other mates jokily accused me of being a Shill for KM/BMG, which I suppose I am a bit but it was really great to show someone the ropes.
As a demo mode for the game, it was definitely a good setup.I'd done a lot of prep to make it run smoothly: all the abilities had been written out by character on a double sided sheet (one team on one side, one on the other), and all the rules on a single A4. Only had to check the rules once, and it was to double check shooting into melee (and I was right ) If I were to do it slightly differently I might switch out Branden/Cops for a more recognisable character, such as Captain Cold with a bunch of escaped prisoners, but this certainly worked well. Equally, I'd quite like to put together a Bat version of the list so you can, y'know, have a BATrep Something like Batfleck, Robin (Damien) and a detective.
Speaking of Captain Cold... Face has come out blurry in pic, I'll need to get a better shot. Very happy with him, especially the glinty crystals and his fuzzy shaved head.
And as requested, his partner in crime also: Heatwave was so much fun to do. Lovely model. Really happy how the scrap sprue worked for slagged metal also.
On a whim, decided to DKR also: Back is basically done. Having blue washed the armour and grey lined it, needs reinked black. Inside of the cape needs inked on the front also. Little bit of tidying up around the jaw and eyes too. But, going down the ramped highlights has, to my mind, worked. An advantage of having so many bloody Batmen (yet I am still missing... 4 I think?! Origins, BvS, Dynamic Duo, Animated - yup, 4) is playing with lots of different styles.
Working on Hawkman. No pics yet, but lots of layering and blending of browns, oranges and yellows. That leaves Penguin & Street Demonz, Aaron Cash and the QRT, and the Bat-Pod, which isn't even assembled because I still haven't gotten round to getting a 60mm lipped base for it (it doesn't come with a base, and though it doesn't technically need one, it's notionally on 60mm and so I want one for it). Need to make a couple more walkers, too, because you can never have a big enough herd
Cheers chaps, graven

Thanks, btw. The TV sculpts are particualrly nice IMO. The Flash and Reverse Flash are so much better than the New 52 ones, but Diggle is the one that I don't have that I really want (correction - I have his head. I want a suited body, such as a Mr Grin, to make a proper Season One Bodyguard version). Speedsters are pretty pillow fisted in game - good against goons, good against each other, not great for much else.

Miniaturemarket does indeed have great deals on the KM stuff time to time. I got the main rulebook for half off because of a small blemish on the cover. They have copies of both versions of the flash/arrow book for $10 in the actual store, also minor imperfections or corner dings. Not to be like 50 posts late in my commentary, but...
As a guy who makes just a ton of terrain and usually prefers densely packed tables with a strong theme, I really love the board you made for the zombie game with just the car wrecks and open street. I love the idea of strong themes in terrain layout and to me, a wide open board is just as interesting, just as tactically challenging, as a dense urban theme or an alien jungle theme. Nice work.

That sucks man. Flarrow for 10 bucks is pretty sweet. If you're buddy-less I highly recommend TWDAOW, and you've got that many zombies that you can have a proper full-on Walker Horde. There is a solo campaign starter (Prelude to Woodbury) which is pretty nifty.

Surely not Cheers matey. Yeah, one of the reasons I like All Out War is precisely because it depends on having open spaces. Dense terrain just isn't as fun for it - or as fluffy, for that matter.
Couple of quickly snapped rubbish wip pics, AK Nightwing Very, very dark blue, with intial set of what will be mid blue edge highlights done (and then much OSL from the batons). Huh. Can't see the glow on the rifle, all merged a bit grey.
Lighting's better on this one.
And the Dark Knight returns, again!
Shades of grey indeed
More work on the Arkham Knight's armour:
And finally, playng with osl on AK Nightwing's batons
Not sure if I like it or not. Time will tell as the whole thing comes together.
Hawkman on hiatus, though really need to attend to him. Street Demonz and the QRT this week, hopefully. 13 days to get them done, in theory (because I will be surprised if there's not a Dad-day toy of some sort).
Marking bonkers, new timetable peculiar. Twas ever so, however.
