Yeah, Heatwave's back a page or two iirc.

As mentioned, AK is done, just can't get a good shot of him.

Wonder whether to make his hood more... RED

Meanwhile, the bonkers of ramped OSL experiment:

Fun to do, actually. At a former gw staffer's suggestion. put green into the mix, pleasantly surprised by the result.

And, much more importantly Hawkman, at last:

Very happy indeed with this. The brass etch armour looks part of the model, the gs work is (hopefully) pretty subtle, and the muted tones have enough contrast from the street sign to work as a whole.
Yeah, done.

Found this bir of sprue in the street and, much to the wife's dismay, picked it up.

Yes.. good choice.. Black probably would have been to drastic.

Now lighten the front of the helmet with a spot of silver or brighter metallic. This should draw the eye to the face where it should be. ( following Major Tom's advice ). Right now it draws your eye to the belt contrast.

The Zod crew will be the giveaway prize. They are lovely sculpts, and come with alternate heads, but I can't keep all the toys... can I?

The Lex in power suit is a really nice gesture - I'd made a throwaway comment to the KM team about wanting to make a Rebirth SuperLex, and they sent me one I'm a lucky boy.

The Superman, incidentally, comes with 3 chest plates - regular, Kingdom Come and Red son. Not sure which to use (though regular will probably end up on SuperLex - hence the comment).

Cool, or kewl? The only thing I note, and it may just be the lighting, is that the harness details tend to blend a bit with the clothing underneath? Maybe some shading to increase contrast?

The sad news though, is that we lost the best Batman, Adam West, today. :( And Wallace ( Peter Sallis) earlier this week.

Thanks man. Yeah, fairly epic drop, can't complain (though there's always more toys one wants...) You may have noticed a HAHA tag on the roadsign, done using the Camkierhi method (it's like the rhythm method, only with a more satisfying result).

Yeah, possibly. I actually was considering the reverse, adding a bloodletter glaze to the harness maybe? Also yes, very sad indeed on both counts

Good lordy man, you're a mad impulsive boy great to see you again, old chum

Started on my two remaining squads, the Street Demonz and Quick Response Team - nothing to show, just blocking in flesh - and working on Penguin:

Love this model. It's one of the most evocative versions of him I've seen, with that down-and-dirty, East End gang boss feel to him that's really growing on me. I was always a Burgess Meredith guy (fun fact - he was originally cast as Danny DeVito's father in Batman Returns, though was too ill to play the role in the end), but this version really gets the sense of the dodgy London gentleman criminal which IN NO WAY is one side of my family tree.

Finished my "Beast Boy" for the kids - Kryptonite Chicken for Joker or Jade Fowl objective for Penguin, whatever

Been building the Bat-Pod. It's a stunning, dynamic model - with no instructions

Anyway, there you go. Astonishingly well designed and balanced; not a difficult build in theory, no filling required, just counter-intuitive. Reminds me of building old Sqaut bikes and gluing myself together as a kid

Basing, however, is proving trickier. It doesn't have to go on a base even though it's a character, not a vehicle (important distinction for maneuvability, means it can turn on the spot); notionally, however it's on a 60mm base (for close combat etc):

Doesn't look quite right to me, somehow (sorry for terrible pic).

I've got a 50mm spare, also:

I think I like this more, the overlap notwithstanding.

Another option might be a chariot base, or an oval? Any thoughts gang?

Also, I wrote a thing, where you can win things. Head over to Big Comic Page, and you can win the new Zod boxset (although irksomely, given that it was designed as a starter set, they've just raised the tournament points bar so you'd need another character in there).

Until anon, gang,

70 would be nice as a display base, but feels empty as a gaming base. Pill or oval would look better as you may be able to get rid of the overhangs to protect it a bit as the front looks delicate

Good point, it is certainly delicate.

Ha ha love it so torn...

Gitsplitta wrote:I love the work on the penguin graven. I think the pants and the tie especially are fantastic.

Thanks mate. I'm going to go really slowly with this one - lots of thin layers. He's likely going to be my go-to villain boss (Penguin is and has always been my primary Villain crew) for a while, so I can get the hang of him - hence I want him to look the part.

Bash the Bosh wrote:I'm in the oval corner? Yeah, the oval corner. I know what I mean.

Yeah yeah. Nutjob.

I found a really nice oval urban one - pricey though (£7 with postage).

I did find a decent 60mm eventually :

I'll probably pick it up, only £3. If it's no use I'll stick Doomsday on it and add rubble.
I had considered another idea: make my own. To get the optimal width I'd need 2x 40mm bases. That way, I get a custom base, perfect size for my batpod. Rather than going for perfect round lipped edges along the sides, I think I'd build them as ruined debris sections, whilst the nose and tail of the base remain intact using the 40mms. What could possibly go wrong? I shall think on.

Also, in other news, a further supply drop to review, this time from Studio Miniatures. Their last KS has just finished: Turf War Z, LA gangs and zombies. Good stuff, particularly (as always, from my perspective) the vehicles:

A bus I have bemoaned the lack of a 28mm school bus for ages. Now I have to decide whether to do as a regular bus (District 22? ), a prison bus, or tool it up for Walking Dead you can even really go to town with it as a Warboys truck or similar with its extras:

It's that funny brownish dark grey resin that Ramshackle use also. Crisp enough for details on vehicles. Fair bit of warm water and soap needed for cleanup though.

Let's do some scale shots.

So this is against a TT Combat swat van, a KM swat van and 2 walking dead vehicles. Straight away you can see it's at the true 28mm end of the scale and is spot on with the TWD vehicles (1/48, although nudging towards 1/56). However it's pretty close also to heroic 32mm (1/43) of Batman. However it feels tiny next to the swat truck from TT (which is almost 1/35). I think that whilst they're not incompatible you can't go down the route of all 3 on the one table; the scale difference would be glaring. no?

Scale shot with captain cold:

So it could indeed work with bmg. Good for a prison breakout, a heist...

Scale shot with TWD:

Going to be great for this, especially with the Prison expansion coming later in the year.

Speaking of TWD, some survivors:

Nice casts, very clean. Rich and... Clark? I like the facial proportions particularly. The TWD Miniatures are a bit lantern-jawed sometimes, plus it's nice to have some variety. I also really like that Rich has a separate right hand - wouldn't normally be a positive but here it's entirely appropriate

Now, some other survivors.

They are sweet indeed, the boys have been hassling me for some males to add to the mix so that's "Aaron" and "Cole". Looking forward to making cards up for these guys.

And some of their wackier minis:

Love this. It's almost enough to make me do an alternate Wonderland crew (especially as we don't have an official Alice or Lion yet - although I've just noticed Toto has fallen over). Because I need another gang.

As for other, RL stuff, bit bummed out. Traditionally, always get a big board game of something with my nerd mates for my birthday, but through a combination of genuine RL stuff (one is on an island, one is separating from his wife, and one is on the other side of the country) and general uselessness (two are just being self-indulgent, miserable gits), none of them are going to come out for it which pretty much sucks. Doesn't help that the gaming side of things is generally in quite a fallow period just now. Still, summer is coming, which if nothing else is a chance to play TWD and X-Wing with the kids, and most likely teach them DCUMG also.

Father's day tomorrow. Moar toys!

Well, for one... you can't really do any proper scale shots when your buss has no wheels. Block it up to the proper height and you might be able to make a judgement.

I'd have thought that a round base for the batpod would have taken up too much space for gaming purposes? Not that I know about such things, hence questioning.

Modelling-wise, it gives space to make a nice display base, but so would an oval of the size required. So you wouldn't be loosing out on that front either way.

Good progress all round.
