Whoa, that command rhino is looking really beefy and really awesome. Love the use of all the kits, and I must say that's gotta be one of the most monetarily expensive rhinos I've ever seen, haha. Definitely looking forward to seeing that finished.

MakeH wrote:Rhino looks really cool, although the dozer blade looks a bit wonky 0o

Yeah, it is quite a bit different from the standard dozer blades. It's magnetized though so it'll be easily removeable once painted.

Gitsplitta wrote:Your airbrushing just looks so effortless Egg... makes me want to bang my head against the wall.

OH, and i wanted to thank you for the inspiration you provide with your fine work. I've been painting my 2 LS Storms and the airbrushing technique I used on them, which worked quite well... was inspired by your speeders. It's not the same approach as yours... but something about your technique flipped a switch in my head and the end result was a couple of nice looking vehicles.

Thanks man! You're a real asset to the Dakka community. Please keep the parade of awesomeness coming!

Thanks Gits! Always happy to hear people are getting something from my hobby log.

DarkStarSabre wrote:Beautiful. I'm now wanting an airbrush but my own style wouldn't mesh well enough with it!

Thanks. Airbrushing does produce a pretty distinct look that does set it apart from hand painted stuff. I know what you mean about it not meshing with other methods. Airbrushing doesn't have to be for the whole model though as you can always use it to just shade your metallics or other smaller pieces.

Thanks, and yes, the rhino is expensive once you add up the price of all the different kits. Originally I had planned to use them separately as I have two unbuilt rhino chasis but since it was going to be a command rhino, I figured I needed to beef it up with armor and all that.

The model air range is a bit limited for fantasy and "more vibrant" models. They are good paints though.

Yeah I have some model air paints. My confusion was the context in which it was brought up.

Not checked up on your thread in a while and there are some lovely additions

So with the Red spray can base coat you then add a top highlight to the rest of the model, how do you shade the really dark red/black onto the moddle? How do you know where to place the shade?

Also are there any edge highlights?

Really stunning work Eggroll.

Are those all Space Hulk Termies, or a mixture?

The Rhino is looking really cool – very original conversion, which is one of the things I love about this thread

The thing I'm looking forward to seeing most though is the Storm Speeder... did you glue the top part on yet? If so it might be tricky getting to the cockpit controls and stuff..!

Really stunning work Eggroll.

Thanks. I shade it with the airbrush. It provides all the blendings necessary. Placing the shade comes with experience and understanding of how light and shadows work on a model. Easiest way to start out is just working with zenithal lighting techniques. After that, once you're more comfortable on highlight/shadow placement you can do more colour modulation techniques. Zenithal lighting is the most realistic but for small miniature models, it doesn't always look the best. For edge highlights, I'm on the fence about it...did it on some models and avoided on others. I'm thinking about only doing it for the death company and chaplains for now.

Thanks Luther. It's all Space Hulk for now except on SH terminator has a cyclone missile launcher attached. Got some normal terminators in box still waiting for assembly for later on.
For the Land Speeder Storm I've unfortunately glued it all down. Least the scouts are not glued in place. I'll figure out how I'm going to go about painting the interior once I get to the model.

Thanks, it's just the normal predator extra armor actually. Got the idea for the extra armor, damocles and sob kit from another hobby log I saw some time ago so feel free to copy it

Thanks Grey. I never got it when it was released either and passed on a few opportunities to buy it for awhile. I did pick up some individual models (at a premium) from eBay and MajorTom sent me two from his collection to paint up. Eventually, found a person local to me that was selling two sealed copies of the game for original retail price so I bought one! Lucky I got it since he sold the other one as well a few days later.

Progress on these guys have been slow though. I'm still putting down black paint on all the details of the models at the moment and my pace is about a model per day. Only got two of them done at the moment...will be awhile before they're all done.

On that subject how do you get the black paint into all the little cracks and crevices? Do you thin it a lot to get it to run in there and dab it off if it gets on the flat surfaces?

Windsor & Newton Series 7 paintbrush and a steady hand. No cleanup necessary. Just takes time

Interesting, it might make somewhat of a decent Sanguinius although I think he's suppose to have a spear instead of a sword? I'm on the fence for this model at the moment, most of the parts look cool but that sword hilt is just weird and the cup is a bit strange looking too...

No, it's a sword he is typically depicted with. There is a better Sanguinius model available though dude, much much better than that one... eBay is your friend...

^^ looks pretty cool but not sure about the face. Maybe only the Emperor can love it?

Slight derail for which I apologise but just wanted to say when I read through this thread in its entirety I was particularly inspired by one of your Dreads – the one with the Libby weapon and tactical kit cyborg head. So much so I had to build one of mine own. Results here.

Ah, yeah I've seen a couple of variations on Sanguinius on eBay, CoolMiniorNot but honestly, haven't really been impressed by any of them. Now if only Forgeworld would do a whole lineup of Primarchs I would buy them all in a heartbeat - even if they charged ridiculous prices too.
