Proper proper Nerd thread this time. Something that theoretically can’t be derailed (no. NO! Bad boy, dirty boy, in your bed, on your rug. Not a challenge!)
What I want to know is pretty simple. From all of Sci Fi, which ship would you like to be ‘Captain’ of? This does include one man fighters, as kinda, by default, if not actually by Rank. You’re still the Captain of your own ship.
And do not skimp on the Why! I’m looking to go full on Nerd with this one!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also includes ship classes, not just named examples.

That said I've always been greatly fond of spaceships the embody the concept of vastness. Fighters like X-Wings are cool don't get me wrong, but when it comes to space I love the idea of truly vast ships. I'd say the Signus is probably one of my favourites, especially after its fly-by introduction in the film The Black Hole
Now doesn't that send shivers when the lights come on; when this huge structure of a ship comes alive and yet at the same time is a dark mystery. Vaulted corridors, rail networks, long open areas. It's akin to the gothic elements of the Imperium, but without the flare for artistry; a colder more base and functional ship.
But its not the only, not even the biggest;
(sorry you have to cut to about half way to see it)
DWARFING ships that are already shown to be huge; the Super Star Destroyer! A sleeker more elegant look to it, a huge flying city of structures nestled in smooth armour plating. Littered with guns (even if most are being aimed by cross-eyed donkey-caves*) and containing enough troops and armaments to invade a world. What the Signus has in dark mystery, the SSD has in pure power. It's a ship that commands where it arrives. Sure the Deathstar is far more powerful with its main gun, and dwarfs it in size yet again; but it lacks any of the elegance of the SSD. I'm also a big fan of Snokes warship; an SSD but done with a sideways slant so that its like a huge sleek manta flying through space (it also breaks from the rather steadfast - everything is based off the Star Destroyer hull design asthetic without going too mad).
Of course if (perhaps when with GW TV being a thing) a Craftworld would have to be added to the list when it comes to huge vessels in space. Taking a further step toward a mysterious elegance of alien design; what would beat being captain, not just of a ship, but a whole mobile world-ship. Well I guess being captain (?) of a Hive Ship might, but then what happens within the hive ships of the Tyranids is anyone's guess!
If you like the really big ships, the Titan-class ships in the EVE Online universe are pretty gigantic.
As for what I'd like to command if I had my choice, I'd want something that had long range for exploration. I really love astronomy and science in general, so being able to actually go to other planets and star systems would be a dream come true. Shipwise, something from Star Trek (specifically the Federation) would probably be a good choice as they've got lots of scientific instruments and sensors and generally seem purpose-made for exploration. If I had to pick one, I might actually go with USS Voyager. I mean, it managed to travel across the whole Delta Quadrant. Yes, they had help and a fair amount of Deus Ex Machina from the writers of the show, but the ship had to be at least decently well-designed to make it at all.
My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

The Grotsnik Corp Bump Feelerer 9,000. It only looks like several bricks crudely gaffer taped to a cricket bat.
Grotsnik Corp. Sorry, No Refunds.
At the moment, USS Voyager. Arguably worst of the 24thC Trek series, and I got bored with it myself, but the ship's not bad. The model kit was something that kept me occupied when I was a young kid sitting in hospital wards, and I'm almost done watching the repeats for the first time on TV, where they're not quite as bad as I remember.
That might be the nostalgia talking. In a week, I might come back and say 'Deep Space Nine'. Even if it's not a ship.
Or, oh, Klingon Bird of Prey. One of my favourite ship designs in sci fi.
I want to be captain of a USS Defiant Class Warsh.........escort ship.
Yup i want to pilot an escort ship with enough guns that it tears itself apart
The question is, do i get a Carsdassion station to go alon with being the captain or is that like an upgrade?
From a practicality standpoint, I’d want to “Captain” a Culture ship, like the one from Excession that can do alllllll the stuff. Why settle for being the human captain of a conventional ship when you and the vessel could be so much more?
However, while I’d love living in a ship that can cater to my whims while keeping me sane and grounded, Culture ships just aren’t sexy. Star Destroyers? Sexy. Nebula Class starships? Sexy. Omega Class destroyers? Sexy. Stargate’s Daedalus? Sexy. The TARDIS? Sexy. So, I guess I’ll chose a Culture ship disguised as one of those.
It's difficult to go past the Tardis, for the allure of any destination in space or time. And the more or less infinite living space in the original version means I might finally have enough room to store all my stuff...
The original Enterprise has always been a favorite, purely for style, but I have no interest in being a Starfleet Captain.
Arthur C Clarke's Rama would be fun... Big and largely indestructible, just tooling around the galaxy picking up samples of different lifeforms.
The Errant Venture. For those who didn't follow the Star Wars EU, the Venture was an ex-Imperial Star Destroyer captured by an ex-smuggler turned into a trading post and casino. After a deal with the New Republic for them to 'borrow' it for mission, it was painted bright red.
Honorable mentions to Serenity, Discovery, or one of McCaffrey's Brainships.
Ultimately, though, it has to be the Millenium Falcon. Big enough to be comfortable, armed and armored will enough to deal with most trouble and fast enough to outrun the rest. And so very pretty...
Hmm 1st choice is the falcon, what kid didn’t want to fly off in the falcon and have adventures in space.
2nd choice for me has got to be the Colonial Marines frigate. It’s just too bad ass, what’s not to love. It has apc’s, nukes, drop ships and funky forklift walkers.
3rd while not a ship but still very cool is the humble imperial speeder. Sadly the closest I’ve ever got is to sit on the photo point speeder biker at Disney studios on a family trip to Florida a couple year back.
That reminds Me I will get to galaxys edge at some point.
A Culture vessel - well the Mind is in actual control but the Culture is pretty close to utopia.
A Shadow Ship, pure joy to be part of / fly and just have to watch out for pesky telepaths

Coming from a Mormon family I might have to pick the Nauvoo from The Expanse. Hopefully I we can find the angel Moroni floating over Jupiter. And for God's sake, get rid of those weapons. Slapping guns on such an amazing feat of technology and calling it a gunship is a travesty. It's not as exciting as a battleship, but the idea of wielding the manpower and resources of a flying city is awesome.
Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?
I wouldn’t want to be the captain of any vessel but if I had to choose one among the various sci fi franchises to travel on, it would certainly be the Enterprise-D.

Never Heard of the Nauvoo, but i did year about a ship called the OPS Behemoth.
For me, its the Super Dimensional Fortress 01, the Macross. And I mean the version from Do You Remember Love... the one with the A.R.M.D. platforms for arms instead of the aircraft carriers. The ship was big and bad, and more than capable of taking on warships several times larger than itself, even without the aid of a Chinese pop star.
Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)
Because tie-fighters are treated rather like goons in that they are there to be defeated, they never seem all that capable nor threatening in the films - except through overwhelming numbers
Then there's this
which is awesome on every single level and disney need to hire him to make more!
Single fighter: B5 Starfury. A science fiction design that looked so realistic NASA asked for the designs. And it has an eject pod if sh*t goes sideways...
Big badaboom ship: oh, that's a toughie. The Hyperion from Starcraft maybe.
Single-seat craft: gotta go with the Vyper from BSG. That thing is so nimble it makes even the TIE Fighter look like an absolute dinosaur.
Capital ship: Enterprise-E. The Sovereign-class ship just looks so fething sexy. Armed to the teeth but with all the Star Trek creature comforts bundled in. Replicators? Yes please. Holodeck? Computer, run the Jennifer Lawrence program

I was also thinking of the SDF-1. However, the situation to be a Captain on was pretty grim......
I was also thinking about Bretai's Zent battleship would be pretty sweet.

Give me a runabout and Q as first mate and I'll take all of you on...
For sheer fun, though, I'd take the Falcon. Although the first thing I'd do is go through it and at the very least label all the wiring and circuit breakers....
It’s sci-fi... take QAR in space and be a space pirate!
I can’t remember the name of it, but Shepard's ship in the Mass Effect universe would be my take. And I’d fill it with Krogans, and Blackjack, and Holodecks. Ah, screw the Krogans and Blackjack. Let’s go, holodecks.
