It is something that Tom Clancy brought up in Red Storm Rising when an American character receives support from some Royal Marines and he actually uses 'Leftenant' whenever the RM Sergeant refers to the Officer.

I would love it if they revealed a plastic thunderhawk, but it was painted with lt. stripes painted down the center.
