Any love for this brilliant series here on Dakka?
Me and my fiance are hooked on this, almost caught up with the second season now.
I'm really surprised how this show hasnt gotten more hype. I rate it among the great scifi series of the 20's, right up there with Dark and Expanse.
I love the mix of mythology, mysticism and space colonization of this series. I'd be all over a series which took these ingredients and made a 40K story with them. The Mithraic people aren't all that far off from devout servants of the Emperor if you think about it. It's also highly ironic that they made the Necromancers the bane of Atheists, who seem to hold machines in an almost Deitical status.

I watched the first season. I thought it started off really interesting, but that it went continuously downhill each episode as all that mysticism a supernatural stuff was introduced. In the season finale when
I decided that was the straw and I wouldn’t bother with it if it came back for a second season, and I haven’t. Which is a shame because the sci-fi elements were indeed good.

Interesting take, because to me it seems like all that mysticism is in fact part of the sci-fi elements. The show really plays with the concept of how advanced enough technology can just seem like magic or miracles to those without understanding. For example, the thing that was the last straw for you is likely:
I find the show to be pretty intriguing and captivating, with part of the draw being theorizing what is truly behind the more "mystical" seeming elements.

It's showing on HBO max.
I know the thing at the end of first season was a big WTF moment, but I think the series took a turn for the better right after that. I've really been enjoying the second season, I'd say it's better than the first one. There's still plenty of fantastical elements involved in the second season, so you'd better approach it with an open mind.

Well said. This is what I also like about the series, it has a sense of mystery and smells of folklore in a way that makes it feel like.. dare I say it? Space Fantasy

I couldnt get past episode 2 with the glacial pace, the color pallete that steals from early 2010 drab grey shooters.
Not to mention the absolutly atrocious acting.

Well, some folks are just better off just sticking with Marvel movies full time, I guess. *shrug*
Regarding the show...I can't say that I love it. The visuals are interesting and there are a lot of themes related to religion and artificial intelligence, so you definitely feel the Ridley Scott influence. But it has an oddness to it...or maybe an awkwardness? I can't quite articulate it. It's definitely not predictable, which is good. And it's interesting, although at times I feel like some (most?) of the mysteries and points of interest won't ever pay off. I'm not at all the type of person who feels that everything needs to pay off. But I guess I'm still questioning whether there's a clear direction to the show or if they're just stacking mysteries almost randomly, a la Lost.

While I l enjoyed the first season the whole thing felt like it was going to always be "all questions/no answers" kind of show and that isn't something I am really interested in.

Many questions raised in season one have been answered to a degree in season two. However, entirely new questions are emerging in their place..

My wife and I are up to date on this. It's one of the weirdest shows I have ever seen. On top of that, I am a fairly literal person, so anything happening that is kind of an allusion or metaphor for something else... I am probably missing... but we like it even if we're not sure what is going on. I am enjoying androids having existential crises.

I feel that in my bones but I am sticking with it anyway. I agree wholeheartedly both with the sentiment and that this is almost certainly the case for this show.

I’ll give it the Lost Test: I will wait until the final episode of the whole series airs, give it a week, and then ask the hardcore fans if they still recommend it.
I’d put money on “no”.

This is very valid and a concern of mine as well, and also wonder if we will end up with a case of getting many more questions than we ever get answers to. However, I think so far the concepts being played with and the questions being asked have been interesting enough on their own to be worth the watch even if we never get a fully satisfying payoff on that front.

While Ridley Scott is known for leaving some things open in his stories (Blade Runner anyone?), he's not as notorious for vagueness and unanswered questions as someone like John Lynch.
I'm actually confident the series will not end up like Lost, but let's wait and see.. I don't even know how many season's have been planned, nor do I know if Scott has already completed writing the whole story. I hope he has though!

It's a series I didn't expect to enjoy, but after reading somewhere that it was unexpectedly good science fiction I decided to give it a try.
The first season I struggled a bit with but did enjoy the worldbuilding overall. As several have mentioned above, I don't need all the questions answered, but there does seem to be a logic that underlies all the strangeness. I'm hopeful that there is a plan to close out the series in a meaningful way.

You mean while he was playing or during his time as GM of the Niners?
I kid, I kid. DAVID Lynch definitely doesn't tie his stories up into nice little bows...but they also aren't intended to be puzzle boxes to be 'solved'. He's more about giving you a kind of open narrative and letting YOU come to your own conclusions and interpretations. Compared to trying to figure out some answer that the writer has created.
What I haven't quite decided is if RBW is like that also, or if they want us to be chewing on 'solutions'. Given some of the weirdness that's happened without even a smidge of handwavium, it's quite possible that it's the former.
For instance:

Yeah, what happened to Paul didnt make much sense.
Having now watched until the end of the second season, I feel like most of the mysteries presented earlier have now been revealed/resolved. But the source of the signal is still something to be revealed in the upcoming seasons.. assuming they will ever get made. Seems like there aint much fans to this serie, which is a shame.

And cancelled!
The second season of HBO Max‘s Ridley Scott-produced series “Raised by Wolves” premiered back in February, and we’ve learned the sad news that it’ll be the show’s final season.
“While we are not proceeding with a third season of Raised by Wolves, we are beyond grateful to the stellar cast and crew, our creators Aaron Guzikowski, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and the entire team at Scott Free Productions, for their beautiful artistry and unique ability to immerse fans into the world of Kepler-22b,” HBO Max said in a statement to Variety.
Variety details, “Originally ordered to series at WarnerMedia-owned cable channel TNT in 2018 before landing at HBO Max ahead of its series premiere in September 2020, the sci-fi drama centers on two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious virgin planet. As the burgeoning colony of humans threatens to be torn apart by religious differences, the androids learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous and difficult task.”
