Monday, May 2, 2011 / GRAND NEWS

All-right - I had a week off in the sun, with spare time during the evenings and have tons of stuff to share, firstly a rather grand statement. No doubt foolishly aired in the glory of productivity.

This project has been very very rewarding, and I’ve come to enjoy the moonlight imagery and really grow fond of the miniatures. I can’t wait to get gaming. The release of the Grey Knights codex has sparked new life and energy and once again reignited my utter love for all things inquisition. But how to re-invent everything again? (personally that is, I am well aware this is mostly an inspiring personal journey, rather than an art project of wider leverage)

Enter a new project, a byproduct of this one, and one that will integrate - through contrast.

THE INQUISITOR TRILOGY
I will build three very special and very challenging to paint inquisitors along with their respective retinues. When I did the Shaddes Offe Greye, which I’ve attached a few pics of - it was a study of the grey areas in the inquisition and the first piece in this trilogy. The second and third will be black and white - literal extremes. And the work has started. There will be now WIP pics. I want to present a finished vision, as I intend to try something quite new.

The second installment of the trilogy.

DIVINE LIGHT - Inquisitor Agnes Beati, Ordo Malleus

I’ve recently become very interested about painting light - through the moonlight theme of Legion of course, but now I wanted something blinding and glorius, a total polar opposite. I’ve always loved the imagery and colors of Catholic icons and now studied the methods and intend to use it for models. I don’t want to go in to boring depths, but the icons really are something. A Base coat of gold is the key to everything, and a limited palette of related yellows, azul blue and muted reds that draw vitality from the gold underneath. I want them to be the most golden and bright, but harmonious bunch of miniatures ever seen.

But I already warn you, it may take time and may not work as well as I think, and I will not share any wip pics, probably ever for this one, but promise to keep a stream of neat stuff coming up in the mean while. Hopefully the wait will be worth it. Agnes Beati and four of her 7 henchmen are already extensively converted.

Obviously it would be a pity to brake my tradition of gaming with all the models I’ve done, so a new =I=munda campaign is set to start in the beginning of 2012.

PS:

As for the “confines” of this project, The Mechanicus Priest is ready for paint!, A brand new Rogue Trader likewise - also built from an Empire wizard. I've done 4 models from the same kit now - each very very different. The Rogue trader being an archetype akin to Adeptum Mechanicus characters, and a character really fitting to Legion operators was something I always wanted to do.

Pics as soon as I get a moment with the camera, now that I am back to work and fighting to catch the week off Ces’t la vie!

here are a few pics of Trilogy Part 1, “Shaddes offe Greye”, for those who’ve missed them before, click on them to go the gallery for pics of all of them:

Oh wow! A new Migs project, and continuation on this one!

Cant wait to see what the end product of the 'radiant' Inquisitor + Henchmen will look like, even if i have to wait a couple of years!! I dont mind, but whats the reasoning behind no WiPs? (feel free to not answer! )

Eager to see the Mechanicus Priest painted as well, will the big robot be painted with him?

Glad to see your still brimming with ideas and excitement, keep up the visionary work Migs.

Nice to see the grey lads reposed too; been a while since I looked at them, and they definitely age gracefully

Amazing work once again Migs. The inquistor looks incredible and the guard on the hilt of his blade looks great - did you sculpt that yourself? I'd love to see the non painted version of the whole retinue as I can only recognize just one or two pieces. Can't wait to see what you come up with for the other two projects.

I like the vindicars weapon the most. Not so much a fanof the converted ghoul body but hey not all of them will be my cup of tea. I do hope you go back and fix those desert IG guys as they are really flat color wise.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

I'm rather excited by this news and I'm positive the final product will be worth the wait. I'm looking forward to your take on bright gold armour on miniatures, in what I can only assume will be a classical art point of view.

I don’t want to go in to boring depths
shame.

Will you be creating a separate blog, like the Jade Vessel, for the coming =I=munda campaign and sharing it with the rest of us? The battle reports I read and the beautiful models I saw last July were, to understate my point, particularly enjoyable.

Roll on 2012 and my offer still stands.

As pointed out in the Shaddes offe Greye thread, most of the model(including the sword) is this figure:

Some WIP shots I've been hoping to post for a week - pheeeeeeeeeeeewww. Thanks for the comments lads.

Mechanicus Fabricator Captain 90% done, Daemon Skull Cherub 75% done, Death Cult Assassin 90% done(one of four similar I've done for the second part of =I= trilogy, so there ) and the Rogue Trader 90% done for painting.

And 3 new Marines 66% done:

Hurrah for more pics. Have been struggling for inspiration with my own project the last couple of days so this should give me a kick up the backside. Can i just ask where the fabricator captain fits in. He kinda appeared a few weeks ago out of the blue and i just wondering if he's part of the alpha legion or just a one off project?

Nice stuff again, as always!

I love the 'regulars', but of course I'm really looking forward to seeing the Marines take shape.

Any hints as to what they'll be armed with?

I really like the Rogue Trader. The use of thin plastic card for a nice crisp edge to the cloak is great. Turning the cloak in to storm coat really shows you've been looking at that kit and really changes the appearance.

The Tech Priest doesn't scream Mechancius to me yet, so I'm intrigued to see what you do for the final 10%.

Daemon Cherub nice and creepy.

The Death Cultist is nice and I think the first time I've seen someone use those particular dark eldar hellion arms without them looking silly.

Looking forward to seeing them painted...along with the Tech Priest's massive robot

Migs: I am interested as to why you chose the sang shoulder pads for the fabricator captain as they seem to overtake him a lot in the picture. I like the concept behind the assassin though, but the guy of the right seems a little odd in the picture. Any chance you could show him at different angels?

Liking the non-female death cult bloke. Great relief to finally see a man taking up the role of blood thirsty assassin, especially with the Flagellant body. Must agree, though, that the sang. pad is looking out of place and rather large. But, I can assume you have some plan and can't wait for them to get some paint!

HUZZAH!

I hear we finally have a new date for that tournament of tournaments! Ie. the backbone for actually finishing this army. It's six months from now. Which means I can do it justice and breath and finally I got the necessary deadline drive back.

It's time to get organized again and have a paint fest with friends or something similar soon.

Best Regards and sorry for delays.

DIVINE LIGHT - Inquisitor Agnes Beati, Ordo Malleus WIP / So I decided against not showing WIP pics - as I would have nothing to show for months other wise I'm having trouble deciding between starting a separate thread and keeping everything here?? What do you guys reckon? This is not strictly about the Legion, but happens on Rhisienne and is an adjascent project that instead of moonlight studies extreme, divine light.

Today some pics from recently activated again plastic factory.

The dutchess Agnes Beatie is a great example of how to convert the deldar into sisters . like the =][= symbol , the gun looks a bit big at the moment , a flame pistol might suit her size more, and the basing is a lovely choice too.
