I don't know - seems about right for a premium-release item in this economic climate - that's allowing 25 per store worldwide plus divvying up the rest between direct order sales.

Someone was talking about costs ealier in the thread I do know a little about this, and If they're paying more than US$30 per box in printing costs I'd be very surprised - it's likely to be far, far less (assuming it's been printed in China).

My local GW store apparently has 40 for release day.

However, knowing that I couldn't get down on the release day the "£10 pound non-refundable deposit only valid for release day" was a no-go. So I had to pay the full wack up front.

I don't understand why this is a limited ed. run, with all the effort clearly gone into it, why was this not release at retail in stores such as "argos"? I remember buying my 2nd ed 40k from there, and that is what got me into the hobby. Surely this is the sort of release that will continue to bring people into the hobby who would not normally be exposed? Wee (or even large!) Jon gets bought a random "space" board game for xmas/birthday etc. and suddenly discovers GW goodness?

I asked the guys at my local store this question, and the fantastic reply was "we are GW, we can do what we want, plus argos wanted to discount it" what great retort......

25000 is too low. Germany deffinitively is getting 5000. that would mean they're getting 20% of all the sets while only constituting 6% of global sales for GW. Based on how many Germany is recieving 25000 units sound like the number available in the US or in the very least available for stores. Based on the market share the US and UK each represent both markets should each recieve 30,000 Space Hulk sets to Germany's 5000.

Lets tabulate some numbers, its been said GW doesn't want to continue this past the initial production run because they can't make a high enough margin. The box retails for $100. At 85000 units globally, you're looking at the sprues costing GW $3.50-$4.00 per sprue. Lets assume $5 for the booklets. At this point its cost them about $25. $30 actually does sound right, whether it was printed in the UK, US, or China it ends up similarly because of the high weight impact on the cost. When I worked for one company we tried outsourcing something similar to this and it cost more to ship than to manufacture. So in total this set costs GW about $55 to manufacture but they can only sell it for $100. Thats sounds nice till you realize compared to their normal markups it should sell for $120. People dislike the $100, how'd you think they'd feel with an extra $20?

That reason is the reason its a limited run. From an economic stand point they had to take into consideration the opportunity cost, spend $55 on Space Hulk make $45 or spend $45 on something else and make $45 like they normally do.

Well I was told it was a run of 40'000, which seems apropriate to me, from two different store managers, also, my local is getting 90.

If I happen to be near a store on release day or Maelstrom still have copies, I may get a copy.
Otherwise I won't.

I don't trust GW not to screw me over on quality of pre-release photographs. For instance those one-piece models look nice, but who's to say they aren't painted up resin first casts? In fact I'd bet my bottom dollar they are. What's to say, therefore, that the one-piece models you get in the actual box aren't a load of crap worthy only of a cereal-packet freebie?

After the shennanikins we got with the Blastscape craters, I am not risking my deposit money over anything like this again.

I mean SH is an OK game, but there are plenty of other games I'd be as happy to spend £50 - £60 on. In fact there are several further up my list. It's only the "limited edition" nonsense that even remotely triggers me into contemplating a purchase.

I guess I could pre-order a copy and if it isn't up to snuff, ebay it, but I'd rather not abuse the system like that.

Cheers

As of 2 days ago my local GW (a mid sized suburban GW) had 50 on preorders, but you had to pick it up on the weekend of release or it goes back up for regular sale.

They expect to easily hit 100 by release dat and will end up with only a handful for general sale, which will go in the first hour.

My local store had a copy in and was running games all day Saturday while advertising the Pre-order. I didn't get to play as the table was constantly busy.

To those that are worried about another Blastscape debacle, don't. I have seen the game with my two eyes and held the models in my hand, probably some of the best detailed plastic models ever made. My only complaint is the amount of tear drops on the Terminators, makes changing them to Salamander terminators harder.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned it before, but the cardboard being used is rather thick. One of my local gaming group brought in a few old Space Hulk tiles for comparison, and even though the connecting joint was exactly the same, the newer sets cardboard was twice as thick.

Needless to say, I dropped my cash on a store pre-order. My store is only getting 20. They are holding on to a copy or two for the store, and some of the employees called dibs which left 15 ready to sell, and as of this weekend, they have 8 pre-orders.

1. They're not one piece models.

Played 5 and a half games of the new edition, played both 1st and 2nd edition....a long long time ago though, and this edition seemed to flow and run quite smoothly. Typically the guy with the t.hammer spends pretty much the entire game "on guard".. and then dies in the first melee.

Stupidly good fun when you get to blow away an entire line of stealers with the assault cannon is worrying how quickly the ammo counter moves.

In one mission we played the serg with the power sword and stormbolter killed 21 genestealers, most in assault.

Whole package is very nice, very happy with my purchase of said box set,

Guys, come on, this isn't Forge World. How often do we have serious miscasts with regular GW plastics?

On top of which, one thing GW has always been good at is fixing their mistakes (specifically replacing defective product). I'm sure they have a cache of replacement parts ready for potential issues. That, and for next year when they "find" a few extra boxes to sell ...

Could the "never been done before" be the fact it seems to be a global release of September 5th? That's the only date I've seen. Normally the UK gets everything first but isn't the release date the same for everyone?

I’m sure glad GW is going to all plastic, so the ever-rising cost of white metal won’t impact the cost of their miniatures.

75,000 copies were produced.

Not a guess, info straight from someone in GW, and no, not a redshirt or anyone in the retail chain.

Going by tallies i've been making of how many stores in various countries get, distributor allocations, and numbers various parts of GW are getting, it adds up correctly.

yep, I'm expecting this to pretty much be sold out the first day. I have 40 coming into my main store, with 43 presold. Stealing some of the other stores allocation to fill the gap. I expect both shops will sell through every copy in the coming week.

The models are as nice as they look online. We've had games going non-stop all week long. Thank the lord for demo copies from GW, so I can have one to keep for myself.)

I know, this doesn't play to big of a part really. Its unfortunate for people in those countries. Not know the true alotment, I suspect many of these countries will also only get 5000 as opposed to 5632 or 4865. 5000 is probably just the minimum quantity for their print run to be worth while. GW is also likely to make up the difference by making that many fewer for English speaking countries... with HBMC all of it taken out on Australia. If you have to round up somewhere, you got to round down somewhere else.

Pretty much all GW's promotional photos are painted up resin first casts. In fact; I was told this also by GW's customer services when I was having a problem with what I thought was a mis-cast lightning claw on one of the Space Marine veteran minis.

I guess the idea is that 'Eavy Metal have a better model to paint, and can do so in advance of the stock being produced.

Seems that these models are just about as good as the photos. They're getting better and better at that.

I think its funny that its taken most people this long to figure out. How many times have there been pictures from Gamesday where some to be metal figure was cast in resin... (everyone goes is that going to be plastic, we get NO)... and sitting next to it is a fully painted one. Is it any surprise? Its fine 99% of time because the quality is nearly identical. That 1% of the time we are all well aware of. There is being cautious and there is being paranoid. Also just because its cast in resin doesn't make it a better model. Yes resin can capture better details, but the original must be of a higher quality to produce those details. You pour resin into the production molds for any model and they will be just as good as the production models.

WRONG! It is Skaven's time in the spotlight! Well, except on the blog, were they are showing us some Vampire Counts conversions.

I wonder when/if they will post "official" pics of the other 4 "living" termies and the dead guy on the throne.

Space Hulk is done and dusted - it's old news man. The 'Whats New Today' thing didn't even reach the end of the fething demo game before they gave up and moved onto something new - perhaps something GW has never done before (like last time).

GW is about progress and moving forward and Space Hulk is in the past - why are you living in the past temprus? Why do you hate progress? Is it because you also hate freedom?

You're obviously a communist.
