Well its been a while but its update time again, things will be a bit all over the place for the next month or so while I wait to see If I'm unlucky enough to be made redundant or not . I have a 75% chance so things are not so bright, but I will have purchased all of the minis for the first wave of the Dark Wolves by then

On to more interesting things this is what I've been doing when I have had the chance over the last few weeks.

Sorry some of the pics are a bit blurry but this was my second attempt

Hi tipios the water effect is Vallejo water effect transparent water 26.201 and the paste I use is vallejo stone effect sandy paste which is what you see on most of the Wolf Guard and chaos marine bases but on the wolf guard with the water effect and on my sisters I use vallejo stone effect black lava which is a different texture. Let me know if you need any more info.

edit: I'm only doing the water effect on a few bases so they don't look the same. When I get round to my Eldar they will have lots of water and mud.

Thanks G. Is that water effect transparent 26:201 the one which you can sculpt? I've gone and set myself the task of making a splash effect, jumping in the deep end It's your fault anyway, because while I was looking for help on water effects, I came across a link you suggested to someone. It involved an army running through a river with splash effects thanks!!!

Yes thats the stuff I paint it on with a paint brush, I've not tried anything spectacular yet put you can do all sorts with it if you build it up in layers. You can also mix in paint and inks for different effects like blood etc. I also use it as icky stuff for the weeping wounds on my Nurgle guys.

Yeah that running through water scene is fantastic.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
edit: I believe the stuff used to create the effect you saw is by Woodland Scenics http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php?act=pro&pre=wsc_hob_lsc_wtr_121_000 it might be better depending on what effect your trying to do.

I've only used Vallejo's stuff, they should both do the same thing but I couldn't guarantee it.

Small update to get you in the mood for larger update tomorrow

Today I have for you the finished Wolf Guard number eight and two Long Fangs

I've also started work on the drop pod, thought it would only take me an hour max. If only I new what a pain in the they are to assemble, well it mostly done now apart from the console and weapon. I ended up magnetising the doors so they stay shut in transport.

In other news I managed to pick up a fake FW multi melta off ebay. The guy said he purchased it from FW but it was the wrong colour and more importantly smelled strange . So I sent off a pic to the FW guys and they are investigating the seller and they are going to send me a replacement so all is good .

Also in relation to FW I bought Imperial Armour second edition the other day, sadly it arrived damaged but FW are replacing it for free and I get to keep the original, their customer service is exceptional. The reason for buying the book is because hopefully later this year I'll be going to a tournament that allows FW models (40k stamped). I'm considering either using a few contemptors or picking up a Strom Eagle for my khorne berzerkers and Abaddon, I need to get it approved by the event organizer though as its over their FW unit points cost by 16 points due to extras I added on.

The Dark Wolves will be going out for a practice game Tuesday night so that will be interesting, I'm so used to all my units being fearless its going to be odd. Its not the full force that I'll be taking to the tournament in July but will hopefully give me an understanding on how and more importantly if the army works. As long as they look good thats what counts to me

Next update will be tomorrow or Tuesday with another completed unit of Wolf Guard.

Yeah it would be a World Eaters one if I get the ok for it.

The VonWar events in Westbury are allowing FW models upto 250 points, here's their website http://vonwar.blogspot.co.uk/p/von-events.html

I've met the guy who runs them and he is a great person. I've got a place for July booked and hoping to go in November as well, which I'll hopefully be taking some FW models too.

Yeah we do indeed, I need a second Nurgle Contemptor any way to use as a normal dread in a tournament in August so thats not an issue, If I get the Storm Eagle though it kicks out my money for my Sisters army I was planning for November.

All swing and roundabouts, but it could all change if a new chaos Codex comes out.

Thanks YB I was looking for missile launchers on ebay for my Long Fangs and it came up in my search and I thought hmmm maybe I could use that

Reaper Man 2020 wrote:When in July and are there any places left, it wasn't obvious on the web site.

The VonWar event is a one day event in July on the 28th its a special format where you army shrinks during each game.

The event consists of 4 games with your army decreasing in points as the day progresses: you'll start with 1500 points and end it with 750. Its been confirmed that we will be using 5th edition rules even if 6th comes out.

The rules pack is here https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B53xEhLtH6q2dGdCd3Nnb2FkdzA you can buy tickets from the Triple Helix Wargames which is where the event is being held here http://www.triplehelixwargames.co.uk/product_details.php?subId=242&pId=12186 or direct from the guy running pm me and I'll send you his email address.

There is also an X Legion event in July as well on the weekend of the 14th/15th at 2500 points. Details here http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?325306-X-Legion-Tournaments-2012-Sign-up-Thread!

I'm going to both, going to be a busy month for me Dark Wolves at X Legion and CSM for the VonWar event.

Cheers I was just going to glue them shut but the other half said "How will your little men get out if the doors dont open?" Well you cant fault logic like that

Ok here's that update I was talking about this is Wolf Guards 14 - 18, for these I tried some light mud pigments as well around the feet.

I might go back over the others when they are all finished as it looks quite good although I don't think you will notice in the pics.

I'm now onto the drop pod, painting is going slowly but then again my biggest brush is only size two

More nicely weathered minis. Which pigments are you using?

Good luck with that drop pod, with a size 2 brush

Some WIP shots of my Drop Pod today I've done one door and a top bit whatever they are called.

I wont speak about my practice game tonight with the Dark Wolves they were massacred by Tau. First time I've played them but his dice were rolling high and mine weren't, but I learnt a few things which will help next month when they go to a tournament not that there are any Tau players lol.

Wow, the weathering effect on that pod vane is amazing!!! How did you do that? That's *EXACTLY* what I'm reaching for w/ my industrial terrain.

Cheers tipios and Skalk.

For painting the vane it was done as follow

Paint Vallejo Brassy Brass
Light wash with GW Devlin Mud to tone it down
Light wash with GW Sepia to put a bit of colour back in.
Paint on smoke effect with Vallejo Smoke
Paint on second layer of Vallejo Smoke where it would be most dirty
Do some sponge chipping Vallejo Black, then paint on the silver damage bits inside the black with Vallejo Air Gun Metallic
Finally add some more GW Devlin mud to any areas that need to be darkened including chipped areas.

I'm off to do a bit more work on it now

Smokey Ink, dam it another paint I need or ink should I say.

Do you find GW washes are better than Vellajo? My black Vellajo wash seems to be rubbish.

That's a more complicated process than I usually put in on a piece, so I'm going to have to step up to the plate if I'm going to prove that I'm capable of better work. My most recent attempts at new scenery are a progressive improvement from where I started, but they still haunt me because what I see in my mind and what happens at the end of my paint brush are distinctly different.

And quite a shopping list. I'm going to make the investment as soon as possible and try to get the best results I can from my hobby time. I strive to provide the best tabletop I possibly can for my games, and this is another step in the right direction.

Thanks for sharing that info.
