Solvaset works okay.
But the trick is to apply the decals over a fully varnished model, then use brush on gloss/matte varnish to seal the decal itself, or spray another layer on.
And if you're having trouble with that, Testor's makes some fantastic decal setting solutions in two varieties(one of which is dangerous to unvarnished surfaces, the other isn't).

Also, does anybody know how to help fix a computer bug?
Everytime i put the SD card into it's drive, I get an error message that reads
"The file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.".
After I close the message box, it doesn't let me import the photos. So, any help would be greatly appreciated. Automatically Appended Next Post: I added the wrong armor bits to the sentinel. .
Gonna remove them tonight and put the right ones on. The top is coming together nicely enough though, and the bottom will follow shortly. I'll try as soon as possible to figure out why I can't upload pics and
rectify it, so please be patient.

Here's a little bit of fluff I worte up to go with the Guard. it's supposed to be from the view of the Commander remembering a good memory of his youth, just to give some perspective.
And if you're too dense to figure it out. I finished the sentinel armor and have gotten to working on the hvy wpn squads.
I'm going for autocannon, bolter, and missle launcher for the set up.

MORE FLUFF!!!!!
Commander Clyde looked at the assembled units on the tarmac form the balcony on the fifth level of the control tower.
The wind whipped across the airfield, throwing up dust as the over one hundred new recruits began to practice assaulting an enemy motor pool and ammo dump. They had used their own vehicles and had placed thin wooden walls to represent structures.
He watched as his own troops assembled themselves in the false motor pool.
A whistle blew.
The recruits rushed across the airfield, firing their training guns. Before the had crossed fifty meters, 60 of the recruits lay down, their red kill marking lighting up. The crossed another thirty meters, losing another forty troops, and barely taking ten of the defenders.
He frowned, and picked up his vox horn. It amplified his voice, throwing it across the entire field.
“WRONG!! Run five laps around the compound and do it again. And everyone who’s dead, stay dead. Your comrades get to pay the price for your stupidity. Everybody grab a body and start running.” He yelled into the vox.
He watched as they went through it again. This time they took notice of the painted markings represent mines and traps. They were careful to avoid them. Casualties were significantly less, he noted.
Another twenty minutes passed, filled with the recruits engaging his defending troops. They were good once they closed to range, carefully making use of cover and clearing buildings like experts. When it was done, of the eighty or so recruits that had been left over to assault the motor pool, only twenty had been recorded as casualties.
“Good. You’re showing improvement. Everyone is to report to the mess hall and eat up.”
He spoke into the vox.
As he sat in the officer’s mess that night, slowly eating the rice and grox he reviewed the tactical specs for the reinforcements he would be receiving.
Three ten man infantry squads, two Chimeras, and three special weapon troopers to place as he saw fit in his unit, and an armored Sentinel armed with a plasma cannon. Of the one hundred twenty conscripts, he knew that thirty three men would barely begin to replace the loses they had suffered retaking the planet from the Orks.
Damn the old bastard. Damn Griggs to hell. He’ll probably have my unit lead the first assault on Calipco.
This is a little bit of fluff to explain the appearance of armor in to my troops.

The Sentinel is done. Armed with a Plasma Cannon and the chainsaw. I also have started work on an objective marker as per ghosty's suggestion of a gun and helmet. I'll try and get pics up on the weekened, using my buddies computer. Automatically Appended Next Post: I also did some custimizing the Sentinel, after being inspired by reading metallifan's blog where he posted his house rules. I glued my own pistol grip shotgun to the model to represent a PDW for the pilot. House Rule BAIL OUT! BAIL OUT MAN!! iirc, a sentinel can suffer an imobilised or weapon destroyed result right? Anyway, the house rule,a s long as it's okay with my opponent, is that if the sentinal suffers either of those, the pilot may "Bail out", and act as an infantry man on the table, albeit not a scoring unit. If I choose to spend his first turn on the table as an infantry unit ruling a die, on a score of 4 or more, he "retrieves" the shotgun, replacing his loadout of laspistol and CCW. And a bit of fluff to explain this rule. Miguel coughed as the cockpit filled with smoke. DAMN! But those Orks had some ingenius traps! Hr waved his hand, trying to clear his vision. The readout infront of him showed the stabilizers failing, as the machine tipped forward. He slammed forward, his harness saving him form being knocked out on the displays. He unhookd the belts, and kicked the cockpit open. He heard small arms fire ping of the top of the wreck. He stumbled forward, and was nerly blown away by an Ork. He fell backwards, the stream of lead missing him by inches. He rolled, drawing his pistol. He fired without looking, feeling the foul Xenos hot breath on him. The bright red lances stabbed into it's face. The thing fell beside him, pinning his gun arm underneath it's weight. He wriggled it free. "Damned thing!" He yelled, and kicked it's head. He looked back at his Sentinel. It was smoking, and he could hear the beeing sound of the plsma gun begining to go critical. He began to root aroun in one of the stow trunks on the back, and pulled out Samantha. The old shotgun had lived up to it's namesake. She had survived countless encounters an pulled him out of many a tight spot. He took a box of shells and took stock of the battle. Things were going badly for the 117th. He could hear the commandeer bellowing orders over the vox, heard him yelling to fall back to the rally point. He racked the slid, and moved out. He was only jsut out of range of the explosion when his plasma cannon when critical. His back was turned, but his eyes still burned as the power of a small star exploded behind him, kicking up snow and wreckage. He had to put his shotgun to use many times befoer he hooked up with a squad to help him.

@GES, sorry to OT your thread
As long as I can't get pictures up, it's fine if it keeps people coming back for more. Also, I've been thinking of buying th AOBR set to get some Orks, since I seem to keep going back to them as a convient
enemy in my fluff. I might just pick up a squad or two and the codex instead.
I was alos looking at my army today.
I realised I had more Vox casters then Squads. (4).
I also did a small bit of converting on some of my troops, such as adding sights to some, or shortening the barrel.
And a bit more fluff cause I love yall so much.
Major Ken Neou was finishing screwing the flasks into his plasma pistol when Captain Travis Laurant sat down beside him on the shell crate.
Their armor was battered and brusied, but it had withstood the pounding the Orks had thrown at them. They had been deeper entrenched in the factory city of calpico then originally thought.
They had already lost the Sentinel in the first assault. General Griggs had withheld fire support, trying to curry favor with the Mechanicus for having as little collateral damage as possible.
"Heard about Lieutenant Miguel?" Asked Travis.
"Yeah. He made it though, so he'll be getting a replacement for his ride." Replied Ken. He ran his olive skinned hand through his black hair, a contrast to Travis' light skin and brown hair.
They heard the Colonel Commander before they saw him.
"Fething morons. Fething Griggs. Fething Miguel fething wrecking his fething Sentinel like that. Fething arse." His stream of curses didn't end there, and contained several choice
remarks about the hygeine and intimate descriptions of what he would like to do to Griggs' mother's uterus.
He stood in front of his two Officers.
"Gentlemen." He began.
"I got some good news sir." Travis spoke, interupting him.
"What?" replied Logan.
"We're getting reinforcement at last. The General's plan to curry favor with the the Cogs backfired. Since we were the one's that had to take calpico's puter limits,
and sicne we did such an exceedingly good job of preventing valuable infrastructure and factories from getting blown up, the Mechanicus has seen fit to provied aid for us." He finished proudly.
"I knew that. I was gonna ask you were the hell the mess is. I need a drink." Logan said curtly.
"Ohhh.... I think they moved it to Section 8." Replied Ken.
"Thanks."
Ken turned to Travis, who was blushing.
"So what are the Cogs doing for us exactly?"
"They are hard at work, assembling a Sentinel by hand, that has recieved increased armor and blessing by the Machine God, and have gifted us with new Chimera's and a new tank, as well
as giving the best of the Civil Defence Corps to be taken as recruits. Some five hundred if I recall correctly." Travis said.
"Wow. I guess it pays to not blow stuff up occasionally." Ken mused.
"But it's so much easier." Travis finished.
Ken began to clean his chainsword and repair the vox link in his helmet as Travis walekd away, presumably to try and get a drink as well.

Corpsmen Miguel Santiago of the Amored Gunnery Corps looked upon the new Sentinel the Cogs had supplied him with.
It had heavier armor plates on the front and top. He liked that feautre. He rubbed absent mindely at the large scar that had been left when an Ork had clambered aboard his vehicle and stabbed him in the chest.
He silently thanked the Emporer for blessing him with his heart being on the other side of his chest. Had it not been, he would now be dead.
It was bare, with not even a basecoat yet applied. The stark grey metal glinted as the lights shone upon the final touches the priest were applying to it.
Miguel glanced over at the Priets who had sent for him. His face was hidden benath a respirator mask, and the constant wheezing in and out set him on edge.
The colorless skin and augmetics might have had more to do with it as well.
He walked out of the assembly tent in the Guard encampment. He could see the new additions to the 667th's Armored Gunnery Corps. They would be the ones driving the new tanks the Gearheads were
building just now. He recognised one of them from Sena's PDF, where had also been raised from. Before the Orks at least.
The only good thing about being in the 667th Scout Regiment was he finally had a chance to pay the Orks back.
Travis lay down on the cot. Logan walked in, balancing two trays. He was stumbling from the drink in him.
"You okay?" Travis asked, noticing the glazed look in his commander's eyes.
"Shaddup stupid. I *hic* feel fine. I shwear it." He said.
He sat down on the footlocker at the end of Travis' cot, and handed him a tray. Rice, green beans, and beef with brown gravy. He could tell from the smell Logan had cooked it himself.
Travis dug in immediately, relishing the taste of home he got from the delicous food that the commander seldom prepared.
It warmed his soul, and made him miss home.
"So what's the occasion?" Travis asked after he had eaten half his tray.
"Whas the occshion? Whas the occashion? The occashion is we gots *hic* Sphess Marines. Member the Wolves templar?" Logan replied.
Travis nodded, and thought back to the Oaths of Fellowship the Marines had sworn fifteen years ago, when the regiment had undertaken it's first solo operation.
"They gonna hep us retake thissshh planet, since Griggs ish to fething incompetent to do it hissef." Logan fell over, the drink putting him out.
Travis gripped him below the armpits and dragged him over to a cot for him to sleep it off. He found Logan's tray untouched, steam still rising off it.
He dug in, the temptation for the delicously heartwrenching food too great. The thoughts of home and the help from the Wolves Templar helped him to sleep.
FLUFF!!!!!!
I've found myself making a lot of conversions lately.
Today I made:
1) Pistol grip shotgun
2) Sniper las gun with bipod
3) SMG
4) Snub nosed las pistol
5) Silenced bolt pistol
And a number of small conversions to Sergeants, Officers, and Troopers.

I finally managed to get some photos uploaded to photobucket. (Had to take my mom's laptop to do it, lol.)
As promised, here are some pics of the painted units, and the fully assembled Sentinel.
And here is the much anticipated pistol grip shotgun. I used the Scouts shotgun, clipped the arms off, filed the hands off, and glued the grips from one of the heavy weapon sprues to make it.
My sergeant conversion. I used a voxcaster head, the plasma pistol from the command squad, a chainsword minus guard, glued a knife from the packs sprue,
and clipped one of the binoulars in half to make his helmet cam. He only has a basecoat of grey so far.
The almost fully painted squad members. I have yet to add the white and grey fro their camo on their sleeves and fatigues.
Another two.
A simple conversion using one of the heavy weapon squads heads.
One of my favorite conversions. I used a busted space marine land speeders sensor module to make his night vision googles.
And the full army photo.

It takes a bit of work to get it tho.
1) Take one of the hip packs with a knife in the sheath.
2) Very Important to have the knife in sheath model.
3) Clip Sheath off.
4) File chest, if needed.
5) Glue.
Dry fit the knife first to make sure it'll fit without filing. if it doesnt, file a little bit at a time, checking frequently with dry fits to see if it works. Automatically Appended Next Post: More pics, yet again shamelessly uploaded from ym mom's laptop because my computer's a dick.
The painted units.
A conversion I made using one of the heavy weapon rucksack sprues.
A trooper that may become a count as sniper.
The painted sergeant, and Commander Logan Clyde.
The back of the converted sergeant.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Some ideas I've been kicking around:
1)Finally doing my nearly forgotten Red vs. Blue conversions.
2)Ordering the pieces to make my Eddie the Head conversion
3)Making a games table/some large terrain pieces.
4)Writeing some full, cohesive, complete fluff.
5)Writing a campaign, complete with special rules.
Anybody got any suggestions for what I should do next?

1) File off the sights that are already on the lasgun.
2) Clip one of the binoculars from the heavy weapon squads in half. (You can make two snipers if you so choose.)
3) Clip the ammo box from the Scout Heavy Bolter and file it flat.
4) File of the las gun magazine.
5) Glue the ammo box.
6)Glue the half of the binocular to the top.
And there you go.
