well the look good and rough, the look you tried to achieve, but i think for eldars a more artistic/ streamlined looks works better... or you might add some more shoulder pads from sm and maybe the look will fit totaly... maybee you could add some hot glue streacks, when done really small it might also help the look of the guns to make a bit more eldarlike...

as for these storm guardians. are the stripped? if so, the i would have stripped them some more. seems that you will have some details lost due to too much color left from previous paint jobs. i know what i´m talking of, cause my whole armie is based of ebay and all models had some monsters wielding brushes with their buttcheecks to paint them. sometimes their facs where a whole blob... i had to do some serious scrubbing after some days in my stripping tanks...

good luck with your guardians, and dont try to hold off your terrain for to long. it will always be in a bad part of your brain and be a pain for motivation when so much large projects dont get finished... it´s like overdue homework on a weekend and you cant have fun doing what you do, cause you well know you have to do homework eventually...i know that, my schoollife looked that way all the way^^

I know most people dont think that eldar ought to look like this but in the Eldar codex (Pg 11) it describes outcasts. It says these corsairs often raid all other races, and some times other eldar, So it seems reasonable, to me, that they would scavenge weapons and armor on these raids. I guess you could argue that they just plunder and pirate for fun or just take raw materials, but if the corsair band is far from a place they can make proper eldar weapons i think they would refurbish the items they "borrowed" from the other races.

Im not sure why 2 of them stripped fine and the other 2 didnt, im going to risk priming over what is left.

Anyways i hope to build a normal storm guardian today.

your reasons for more beefy eldars is good for me^^. sounds logic, and we have to remind ourself that they are a dying race with no real homeplanets to plunder from. so one day or the other, materials will get short to make things the are used to... maybe you could use tau things as well, i think they would look good on eldar...

stuff normal we want cool^^. just surprise us as allways^^

Im trying to get some Kroot to be my Rangers/Pathfinders. Fire warrior bits would also be cool.

those shoulderpads? where are they from? they look very cool, original.

his gun looks also very cool when cut to size. suits him well as a stormtrooper...

withn those things on his neck he alsomost looks like a predator... where is it from, i´m not that knwoing with eldar...^^

The shoulder piece is from a bag of bits i got that said "Modified Bunker" on it. I dont really know what that is or what but it had bits for a space marine manning a turret, like the ones that go on top of a rhino.

Im pretty pleased with how the cut down guns are looking, as well.

I love the posing on the storm guardian with the knife, very dynamic. Keep up the good work

@Viktor von Domm: I'm pretty sure the shoulder piece there is the small radar dish which sits in front of the missile racks on a SM whirlwind.

The arms are from imperial WHFB. They had pistols in the hands that got cut off.

As to colors im not sure. But hopefully tomorrow i will be able to finish building the last three i nee to to make for a full unit.

Here are the final three:

do you by chance know how to write something in asien writing? would be fitting for the banner.

well i´m anxiuos to see your guardians painted.did you by gw paints for these or will you using your former paints?

i´d suggest using red and yellow to blend/fit them with your already done eldars...

question: do eldar weapons should have drilled barrels?

one last thing: the groin shield of one guardian is a bit too much for me... but if it works for you^^...keep it.

good work for you have fun painting ´em

For the looted items, such as the banner or shoulder pads, i want to make them still have the space marine icons on them but have Mayan or eldar style runes and symbols on top of that, like graffiti. Roughly like this:

For the looted pieces i was leaning towards ultramarines but im not really sure on that either. Suggestions? Would a mix of different chapters stuff be to much?

I will use GW paints but i wont get them or use the store's paint until the weekend.

For color scheme i was thinking something geometric like this:

or Psychedelic like this:

Most likely they will be yellow and orange with red bits.

I havent seen any eldar with drilled barrels, most of the weapon tips are too small.

Yes, the groin sheild is silly but now that it is primed i dont want to change it . Oh well.

Suggestions taken with the upmost gravity!

hold the brushes! i defeinatly would deeeply suggest the second scheme...!!!
thats the way to go, would love to battle a whole army dressed that way!! I´d go so far as to paint the helmet in red... would rock the scheme even more.

as for your banner aproach: hmmm id might work, but consider this: every race is utmost proud of who they are and always sees their own race as supierier lifeform against others. would you dress as a fungie? or a worm? i think not. in my opinion eldars with ultra banners would look like a group with serious selfesteem issues... maybee use insted a deep red, as a hint of bloodangles and stay away from chaptersymbols or mabye let them look almost completly faded to undeline the looted char. ith your brushskils you could pull that of...^^

I`d still rip that silly shiel apart, and then what the heck a slap of white and the sillyness is forgotten. you could afterwards add it instead on a shoulder like its meant to be for termies..

î´will be online for upcoming discussions^^

I pulled of the little shield and now it does look much better.

I made this mock up taking some of your advice:

To do the spatter design on the body i figure ill have to do some sponge painting or something similar.

I tried to faintly incorporate blood angels icons while placing the eldar style runes on top.

What do you think?

exactly as i pictured it myself, like your mock up.
minor critizism: the blade beneath the arm looks off...for me it pulls the look away...

great idea with sponge technique, thats the way to go hope you can do it, tried it once for weathering, wouldn´t work for me, but you seem to have more skill or just better tools^^

with gimp or photoshop you can do so usefull things...

Ive made some headway into my Storm Guardian Scheme and my new pathfinders.

First the Guardian:

WIP!

It has yet to be highlighted or detailed at all. I was just trying to get the base color down.

Now the Kroot Pathfinders/Rangers (yes they are going in my eldar army not a new tau army):

The bases all have a bit of imperial architecture on them, not sure what kit its from. Also i cut the blades of the ends to elongate the form of the rifle.

Scope made from one of the smaller Sentinel weapons. The bag is, i believe, ork stick bombs.

Scope is a lazcannon, to give it a more Night Vision look. Also my favorite kroot bit the meat rack on hook.

Cant remember what this scope is. Ork shoulder guard and kroot ammo on it.

Some other sentinel gun as a scope and ork shoulder guard.

More kroot to be made. i also hope to get my hands on some glade guard for the bits to add a some hods and capes to my eldar.

What do you think?

hmmm kroots with eldars....

no critizism here cause you can use them without them wimpy commies^^. no seriuosly i think that it is cool. as you mentioned your eldars are a bit low on eldar supllies so they have to rely on looting other races goods. why not using then a slave race like the kroots^^.
well i could imagine that these krootsbattalion was captured and are now under eldar mindcontrol...maybe telepathic (which wouldn´t be shown on the mini) or by technological means (then you should do some wires on necks or heads stuff)
i really like your scopes idea... really inventiv, i still have some tau stuff and eldar stuff from heavy weapons that might also do the trick... hadn ´t thought about using it in that way yet...
the nightvision is particulary cool. i thought before reading that it might be somewhat that like...cool idea^^

as for your stormguardian... i would suggest using more yello in the upper body parts to get it more firy looking... it looks good as it is but it would be more true to your concept mockup...did you make him a grim face by the way^^?
and yeah that blodd angles shoulderpad is a nice touch...looking forward for more of these "hot force"^^

I didnt even really think of the reasoning behind why there were kroot in my army. I just liked the model and Rangers seemed like the best fit for them. Yet, i dont really see the kroot as being enslaved by the eldar, more like both group saw that they could gain from joining up. Also, i think it adds good flavor to the idea of fringe eldar scoundrels and rouges. What i mean is that my eldar wouldn't turn their nose up at other race like the craftworld ones but they would cheat you at space poker in a heart beat.

The storm Guardian definately needs some more yellow and work in general. When i highlight it i plan to work in lighter colors.
Im not sure what you mean by this "did you make him a grim face by the way^^?"

he has some streaks of wash where his mouth might be under the mask^^...

as for this attidude of your eldars then, like cheating in spacepoker (lol) i would recomennd then getting hold of some spare DE parts to show that they are open in all directions... or maybe not...^^

the everyday eldars appear to me pretty cheeky when it comes to other races... so your in short terms spreading the idea of warfull understanding between diffrent culters.. where was that damn sheet for recommending some one for the peace nobel priece?^^

Yeah i tried to do the face but the wash wasnt cooperating so i worked on the other parts. I will try to get it so that it has a black out line around the face and colored eyes, maybe blue or green.

I probably wont be able to resist the new dark eldar, they just look so cool. Im not sure if they will be incorporated into my good eldar army because even scoundrels and pirates would know better than to meddle with chaos. Although it could be reasoned that the eldar would take the the Dark Eldar's things, to signify overcoming chaos or mastering it.

When it comes to aliens in my army i would like to have more. I would like it to be a assorted crew of fringe pirates. More like an army that uses the eldar codex instead of a truly eldar army.

A new one:

A more square digital style scope:

But now im out of bases so the 8 more kroot i have on sprue will have to wait.

the thing is i begin to feel that you are trying to invent the idea of the tau from a different angle...maybee it is a good thing to declare that your army in fact isn´t eldar at all but some kind of looting race that has a knack for basic eldar armor...
after such a decission there is no kitbash you couldn´t do...if you look in my gallery there are four alliens that mightstraight be up your ally^^. by giong to this new alien race idea you could go orks and chaos as well. you could benefit from every ebay auction^^ that would be a great win...

and as usual, your conversions look cool, the cape is a real looker^^ and the scope...said it before^^

Oh all kits will be bashed!

Those are some funny looking frog sharks. But im mostly staying with GW stuff because i really like the versatility of multi part plastic kits.

Anyways random:

Robot Legs, no feet yet, ill probably give a big gun; for reference its currently a bit taller than a space marine.

well how can someone be so cruel to the evertrusty lascanon? no honestly when painted it will look good, but get rid of the aquillas on the guns. i think you should work more with the feet. make it that it looks workable...as for the feet i would also try to get it symetricaly, but if you want to do an ork killa can that might still work that way.
as for the torso...you coul be bold and try to use an old egg of sweets... you now kind of like that:

c) how did you make the arms and legs?

To be quite honest, while you do have some thoguht behind your imperial weaponry kitbashing it's still not logical. A human (who is generally stronger, or equally strong to the Eldar) can barely carry a bolter or flamer unit that the astartes use, an eldar really wouldn't be able to use it. DE weaponry, some TAU stuff as well as IG would be more reasonable.

When it comes to your painting; you really need to get good paints, right now they look like they're painted with aquarell-paints used for canvas/plain paper painting.
They also at times look oil-based and extremely thick instead.

Judging from the freehand you prob. won't have any problem with brush control, real paints will thus most likely get you a long way.

Those tricksy eldar! how do they do it?! The flamers are IG so in keeping with the 40K "reality" i think that that is fair enough. Also Plasma guns are used by the IG so that would be fair game to use to, if i were trying to make it realistic. Right?

All models painted after the farseer with red cape and tan helmet are painted with GW paints.

I have a question are you making this army for fun or to play?
From a playing army stand point this army will not work since almost everything is a "count as" and will just ruin the joy from the game, I am not trying be rude or any other thing just saying with an army of random conversions does not work well for playing or at least to me.
But if you are aimming to just make this army to make it the way to go for achieving something out of the box that no one has even done.

Keep up the good work and it is fun to see your skill impove of the time of this project

For fun defiantly. But i will play it. The only "counts as" unit i really plan on fielding are kroot rangers. Otherwise i just plan on modifying existing eldar with non-traditional bits. I guess the storm guardian heavy weapons are also a counts as but close enough for me. I personally am not to worried about wining, and i like to it when other people have cool conversions in their army.

well eggs of doom certainly has a ring to me... with some very thin plastic card from folders for school it might actually work^^

as to community: i think he wants to build something out of the box alright but playing will be possible if he find players that think the same way... if it weren´t for bloody miles of the atlantic ocean i would chalange these pirate eldars right away^^

i´m still pondering what to use for the robot body...maybe you could get really bold and use a good looking car (matchbox) standing on its front as body... painted it might give you enough detail and you could have sockets for waeponsarms...
but you have to be more boild than anyone else^^i challenge thee to it^^

as for realism and gw paints... in my opinion the earlier models i had to get used to but now i like the conversions and especially the paintjobs. don´t let you get frustrated by people who copy to much and are not anymore creative...

have fun doing what you like^^
