That'd be pretty cool, kitbashing wyches to make female warriors could make for a decent force assuming it doesnt look ridiculous.

I'm hoping they make mandrakes useful, and like the idea of a Webway army

Mandrakes are the unit I am most excited about... If the rumors about them are true, they will be much more widely used as a true Elite power unit.
I always thought they were a fantastic idea. 'The creepiest of the creepy. The predators of predators.' But they sucked in game and were not worth ballscratch, let alone their point cost. Almost as equally beyond worthless as Hellions.

I used to do quite well with Mandrakes back when you could double fire pistols and then assault, It was 50 strength three attacks essentially, if you placed them well and didn't need to move them the turn you revealed them. I killed an ork war-boss mounted on a bike with a 10 man unit of them once. It was narrow but memorable..... I am not suggesting they were a great unit, but i always had fun ambushing with them, it just took a bit of creativity and planning to use them to effect. I haven't played my dark eldar since 4th edition though, and that is because units like them took such a massive hit and I don't have much fun playing raider spam. I am really excited for the release but nervous that I will want to re-buy the new models haha.

I'm a bit surprised they aren't releasing a battle force immediately.

At one time it was said all the new Dark Eldar stuff will be interchangeable with the normal Eldar stuff.

That would also be pretty cool.

A bit OT, but is it "common" for Eldar to become Dark Eldar anymore? Do they ever switch sides like the marines/guard do, or has that not happened since the Fall?

They don't switch sides. They went their separate ways at The Fall. Eldar switching 'sides' would be like us switching nationalities. No matter how hard I try, I'll never be Mexican. In that regard, Eldar are pretty much the Mexicans of 40k. And Dark Eldar might sometimes wish they were Mexican, but that thought is fleeting, since there's nothing they can do to change it.

In Path of the Warrior, by Gav Thorpe,

Spoiler:
has a scenario of an Incubi surrendering(or being taken captive, can't remember) after being beaten by a Striking Scorpion exarch. Its implied to be a pretty significant switch and has never been done before. The former Incubi is so important Karahandras "dies" for him, so that he can live to show the Eldar that Khaine doesn't rule their souls, or something to that effect. The former Incubi only says at most 3 words the entire novel, but he comes across as a bad ass.

I hope that the Mandrakes are as bad ass rules wise as they were in the second Word Bearers novel.

Looking forward to hearing news soon, but if not, life goes on!

They don't switch sides. They went their separate ways at The Fall.

Eldar switching 'sides' would be like us switching nationalities.

Technically, the Exodites and Craftworlders made their choice prior to The Fall, choosing to abandon the hedonistic Eldar society decaying around them. The Crones had their choice made for them, simply being on the Crone Worlds at the time of The Fall. The Dark Eldar and Harlequins are not as clearly-defined, and should be fleshed out if/when a new Codex appears.

Eldar switching sides would be more like us switching among orthodox religions. It's theoretically doable, but it requires a major reorientation in one's worldview and lifestyle. That is, if you're a Roman Catholic, converting to Hasidic Judaism generally doesn't happen because the systems are designed to prevent this kind of thing.

Eldar switching sides would be more like us switching among orthodox religions.

But a craftworld eldar could probably say "screw this religion" and just give in to the desire for excess in his soul very easily. Like an Amish person coming to the big city and just letting his old life, and its limitaions go. I had always thought that craftworld outcasts were the only reliable way for the dark eldar to replenish their numbers, and I recall a short story in 3rd edition Eldar codex where a Farseer laments how so many of their youth fall off the path, year after year, which I assume means joining the Dark Eldar.

Anyway, probably want to steer this thread back OT!

According to the 4th edition Eldar Codex, craftworld Eldar can come and go as they please. Even go to commorragh and come back. Once they're back, all is forgiven. It's not so much that there is a racial difference, as much as a way of life difference. There is a whole section on outcast Eldar in there, if you're interested.

For me, they look much more interesting than the old sculpts.
Haven't seen any new ones yet, but the Incubi aren't bad models. Also, concerning GW's usual pricing habits, I wouldn't be surprised if the price looks something like 25-30% greater for the same amount of New!Incubi (provided there are any) as the old ones, so you wouldn't be losing much in that exchange money-wise. Of course, Incubi equipment could drastically change, which would be a good way for GW to discourage buying older models for cheaper (one of the things I'm, personally, thinking they'll do so that everyone who bought DEldar when they were $5-$10 less per-kit than other armies will suddenly find themselves buying new stuff and making up for their savings).

SX poison doesn't look quite right to me, as I'm having trouble thinking of many weapons besides Snipers that still work in such a fashion. Maybe a mean to prevent use against light vehicles (no more Splinter Cannon-spam gibbing light speeders / transports)?

Wonder how many things are going to drastically change, though. Combat drugs I expect will be one of a few things:
1) Random bonus determined ALA Possessed at the start of the game.
2) Set bonus' to the statline or a special rule (Ex: "All Dark Eldar with Combat Drugs gain the Furious Charge special rule" or something like that).
3) Gone / Special Character-only.
4) Still get to pick what it does (Yes, I do think this is less likely to happen than them being dropped overall / for a special character only).

Other things I'm interested in seeing is all the Leadership-bomb weaponry, how they'll manage to keep the Shadow Field at once useful and not overpowered, what's happening to stuff like Wych Weapons and the special Helms, and so on.

Thanks, I was actually eyeing the Incubi with interest

Cheers

While a plastic vect is probably expecting a bit much, I would love to see them put him on foot and make him more like the "badass archon" he should be.

Also, psychic powers would be nice (as well as better anti-psyker abilities).

Onto the Talos rumors, has anyone seen anything on what the new kit would look like? Moreso, any idea what kind of "customization" will be included with them (also, will they stay as MCs or be normal walkers with AV?).

Most importantly, has anyone heard anything about the removal of Combat Drugs (Wargear version, not Wych/Hellion/Jetbike etc) and Shadow Fields (as well as revamping Nightshields and Webway gates)?

Also, @ Evilsponge http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/09/03/see-duke-nukem-forever-revealed-maybe/ Gearbox (people who made Borderlands) picked it up, so its coming out as well.

Vect should be an upgrade kit to a Raider/Ravager. Maybe he could get a foot model that can only disembark when his vehicle is wrecked. I kinda like him as the oddball unique character/vehicle hybrid that he is.

Vect on foot? Vect is Vect, riding around in his chauffeur driven limo with his gals and bodyguards, being seen. It's his thing and you can't expect him to do otherwise lest he be seen as uncool by the murderous tyrant community in which he is a major player.

I just hope they update the reclining-slavegirl figs from the Vect model. They're the material for many a hilarious conversion. Given the de-seximafying the daemonetts got, I'm guessing that sadly won't happen.

Who wants 'sexy' minis?
Anyway, I welcome this news. I won't be starting a DE army, I just think it's wrong that they've been put aside for so many years while armies like SM and Orks and IM have seemed to dominate the 40K pages of WD. I like variety. So, new DE please and, next, the Necrons!
Funnily enough, WD227 is sat on my bedroom floor, just so happens to be the issue that was released alongside the original DE.

Have you read any of his fluff? Outside of Dawn of War, the Dais is actually more contradictory to his whole "I'll tear your lungs out while you beg for your life" motif.

He should be more like a "Ragnar Blackmane" type character (giving army/unit wide buffs) and they should just make some sort of Pask-like character upgrade for Ravagers that would use his old model. (Or something)

Tell you what: you stay with your ascetic superhuman monks and we'll worry about the "sexy" minis.

The less faction-unique armour they're wearing, the easier they'll be to convert for use elsewhere. If the plastic Wyches are all female and don't look like ass, I'll be buying some to convert into Eschers, or maybe even Repentia.
