It doesn't so much stun me as mug me in a dark alley and empty my wallet
I finally gave in and blew several hundred on the new Dark Eldar shinies that i've been (barring a couple of impulse buys) trying very very hard to not buy since they came out.
I'm a hopeless case

Some people could care less about every unit in their list being optimised, you know
I run units slated as being 'suboptimal' all the time, and do pretty well with them. It also helps relieve the monotony of seeing the 'best' list all the time
Not everyone is a Tournament player (I am), or only interested in the 'best' units, and hang the rest (I'm not ).
A unit isn't 'garbage' because it has a .01 less chance of killing a MEQ, for example. Sometimes I include a unit because i love the look of it, and if it does well good for it.
Another nice thing is that with the current obsession on list optimization the less optimal units almost never make the scene, which means that the optimizers have no idea how to fight them. They gain a new value from this beyond their stats/abilities. Automatically Appended Next Post: boyd wrote:agnosto wrote:

There is a grot with a stick of dynamite on one of the models Change out the head and you're set

Now i'm trying to work out what is the minimum I can change that model so that it "is" Lady Malys.
Maybe a weapon swap might work?

No worries, I'm happy you're supporting Fantasy, I find that to be great fun. I feel like I have more interest in the mechanics of Fantasy, but more interest in the fluff and models of 40k (mostly just Dark Eldar, though).
Brother SRM wrote:Alkasyn wrote:

Agreed, I find that odd. I like to use units that I pick solely because of the model look or fluff. I agree that I wouldn't do that in a tournament, but hey, who says you have to win every game?

I'd think just throwing a fancy blade (maybe from the Archon?) and doing something else with that scabbard would do the trick. I might get two, do a head and arm swap on one to make it Lady Malys, the other will just stay a Lhaemon, I want at least one of each court member. There's also another Lady Malys conversion idea I picked up from Grimtuff, so now I have decisions to make. I also think that if/when GWS releases her official model, I think it will be fantastic. The Archon, Succubus, Urien, and Lelith are all superb, if you ask me.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Woot! Imo, Ogres a perfect army to get into fantasy with. Lower model count, resilient, very killy... susceptible to initiative-based magic, but you can't have everything

I'd rather not see Sister's Finecasts or recasts. To me it means they've got Sister stuff (plastics) in the works and don't want to open their purse creating something that's only going to be good for 6-7 months. Sister plastics are going to be good. Like Scourge good.

I'm in love with the new DE models. Too bad they're not plastic like those new WFB character blisters. GW striking again, having their best and their worst ideas at the same times (plastic character vs finecast).
I'll probable get one of each in the Archon's court for collecting, in the casting looks ok.

I can't speak to the mechanics of Fantasy, but I know what you mean by digging the 40k fluff more -- and with releases like these in the DE line ... well, Fantasy isn't doing as well IMO.

Bingo baby. I'm lacking as far as gaming friends go, so I collect for fun more than to create a winning list, as it's rare that I'd get to field them. Though as I've said inother threads, if you count each character as an upgrade directly to the archon instead, it starts to make a lot more sense. Let's look at the lhamaean for instance: for a mere 10 points, I can give my archon 2x 2+ poisoned ranged attack with +1 wound (by this I mean that the lhamaean will take attacks away from the archon, by having enemy models attacking her instead of the archon). The same benefits can be said of all other models in the unit:
Working on minimum quantities as per the dex, your archon can have 12 base attacks and 8 wounds, 2x 2+ poisoned shots, 4x 4+ poisoned shots AND a template weapon that strikes at D6+1 strength / D6 AP. All for just 75 points of upgrades. Then add on any other special equipment that you're archon will take... certainly a unit for larger points games but it seems damned good to me. Oh, and these will all fit in a Venom.
Maxed out, s/he would have 32 attacks, 15 wounds, 3x 2+ poisoned shots, 12x 4+ poisoned shots, 2 of those wonderfully unpredictable template weapons + character upgrades. Sure you can't fit this lot in transport, but drop them out of a WWP and you're opponents in for a helluva surprise. Why? 'Coz no one feels this unit! And these are just baseline stats, ignoring any bonuses for charges, assault grenades, combat drugs etc etc etc.
Mantle wrote:I really want to use a court of the archon but sadly it costs 38 pounds to field the smallest basic court, 38 pounds for 4 models, even models that awesome aren't worth that much!
